A note on the gaps between consecutive zeros of the Riemann zeta-function
Assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, we show that infinitely often consecutive
non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta-function differ by at most 0.5155 times
the average spacing and infinitely often they differ by at least 2.69 times the
average spacing.Comment: 7 pages. Submitted for publicatio
Analysis of millimetre-wave polarization diverse multiple-input multiple-output capacity
Millimetre-waves offer the possibility of wide bandwidth and consequently high data rate for wireless communications. For both uni- and dual-polarized systems, signals sent over a link may suffer severe degradation due to antenna misalignment. Orientation robustness may be enhanced by the use of mutual orthogonality in three dimensions. Multiple-input multiple-output polarization diversity offers a way of improving signal reception without the limitations associated with spatial diversity. Scattering effects often assist propagation through multipath. However, high path loss at millimetre-wave frequencies may limit any reception enhancement through scattering. We show that the inclusion of a third orthogonal dipole provides orientation robustness in this setting, as well as in a rich scattering environment, by means of a Rician fading channel model covering all orientations for a millimetre-wave, tri-orthogonal, half-wave dipole transmitter and receiver employing polarization diversity. Our simulation extends the analysis into three dimensions, fully exploiting individual sub-channel paths. In both the presence and absence of multipath effects, capacity is observed to be higher than that of a dual-polarized system over the majority of a field of view.Nicholas P. Single Z' production at CLIC based on e^- gamma collisions
We analyze the potential of CLIC based on e- gamma collisions to search for
new gauge boson. Single Z' production at e-gamma colliders in two SU(3)_C
X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N models: the minimal model and the model with right-handed
(RH) neutrinos is studied in detail. Results show that new Z' gauge bosons can
be observed at the CLIC, and the cross sections in the model with RH neutrinos
are bigger than those in the minimal one.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, To appear in JET
On the Stability and the Approximation of Branching Distribution Flows, with Applications to Nonlinear Multiple Target Filtering
We analyse the exponential stability properties of a class of measure-valued
equations arising in nonlinear multi-target filtering problems. We also prove
the uniform convergence properties w.r.t. the time parameter of a rather
general class of stochastic filtering algorithms, including sequential Monte
Carlo type models and mean eld particle interpretation models. We illustrate
these results in the context of the Bernoulli and the Probability Hypothesis
Density filter, yielding what seems to be the first results of this kind in
this subject
Rare Kaon Decay K^+ --> \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu} in SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N Models
The rare kaon decay K^+ --> \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu} is considered in the
framework of the models based on the SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N (3 - 3 - 1)
gauge group. It is shown that a lower bound of the Z' mass in the 3 - 3 - 1
model with right-handed neutrinos at a value of 3 TeV is derived, while that in
the minimal version -- 1.7 TeV.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, late
Explicit modelling of SOA formation from α-pinene photooxidation: sensitivity to vapour pressure estimation
The sensitivity of the formation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) to the estimated vapour pressures of the condensable oxidation products is explored. A highly detailed reaction scheme was generated for α-pinene photooxidation using the Generator for Explicit Chemistry and Kinetics of Organics in the Atmosphere (GECKO-A). Vapour pressures (P^(vap)) were estimated with three
commonly used structure activity relationships. The values of P^(vap) were compared for the set of secondary species generated by GECKO-A to describe α-pinene oxidation. Discrepancies in the predicted vapour pressures were found to increase with the number of functional groups borne by the species. For semi-volatile organic compounds (i.e. organic species of interest for SOA formation), differences in the predicted Pvap range between a factor of 5 to 200 on average. The simulated SOA concentrations were compared to SOA observations in the Caltech chamber during three experiments performed under a range of NO_x conditions. While the model captures the qualitative features of SOA formation for the chamber experiments, SOA concentrations are systematically overestimated. For the conditions simulated, the modelled SOA speciation appears to be rather insensitive to the P^vap estimation method
Possible Constraints on the Duration of Inflationary Expansion from Quantum Stress Tensor Fluctuations
We discuss the effect of quantum stress tensor fluctuations in deSitter
spacetime upon the expansion of a congruence of timelike geodesics. We treat a
model in which the expansion fluctuations begin on a given hypersurface in
deSitter spacetime, and find that this effect tends to grow, in contrast to the
situation in flat spacetime. This growth potentially leads to observable
consequences in inflationary cosmology in the form of density perturbations
which depend upon the duration of the inflationary period. In the context of
our model, the effect may be used to place upper bounds on this duration.Comment: 21 pages, no figures; Sect. IV rewritten and expanded, several

Entangling two Bose Einstein condensates in a double cavity system
We propose a scheme to transfer the quantum state of light fields to the
collective density excitations of a Bose Einstein condensate (BEC) in a cavity.
This scheme allows to entangle two BECs in a double cavity setup by
transferring the quantum entanglement of two light fields produced from a
nondegenerate parametric amplifier (NOPA) to the collective density excitations
of the two BECs. An EPR state of the collective density excitations can be
created by a judicious choice of the system parameters.Comment: 3 figure
Interfacial charge transfer in nanoscale polymer transistors
Interfacial charge transfer plays an essential role in establishing the
relative alignment of the metal Fermi level and the energy bands of organic
semiconductors. While the details remain elusive in many systems, this charge
transfer has been inferred in a number of photoemission experiments. We present
electronic transport measurements in very short channel ( nm)
transistors made from poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT). As channel length is
reduced, the evolution of the contact resistance and the zero-gate-voltage
conductance are consistent with such charge transfer. Short channel conduction
in devices with Pt contacts is greatly enhanced compared to analogous devices
with Au contacts, consistent with charge transfer expectations. Alternating
current scanning tunneling microscopy (ACSTM) provides further evidence that
holes are transferred from Pt into P3HT, while much less charge transfer takes
place at the Au/P3HT interface.Comment: 19 preprint pages, 6 figure
