Mining Characteristic Patterns for Comparative Music Corpus Analysis

A core issue of computational pattern mining is the identification of interesting patterns. When mining music corpora organized into classes of songs, patterns may be of interest because they are characteristic, describing prevalent properties of classes, or because they are discriminant, capturing distinctive properties of classes. Existing work in computational music corpus analysis has focused on discovering discriminant patterns. This paper studies characteristic patterns, investigating the behavior of different pattern interestingness measures in balancing coverage and discriminability of classes in top k pattern mining and in individual top ranked patterns. Characteristic pattern mining is applied to the collection of Native American music by Frances Densmore, and the discovered patterns are shown to be supported by Densmore’s own analyses

Optimizing Phonetic Encoding for Viennese Unit Selection Speech Synthesis

While developing lexical resources for a particular language variety (Viennese), we experimented with a set of 5 different phonetic encodings, termed phone sets, used for unit selection speech synthesis. We started with a very rich phone set based on phonological considerations and covering as much phonetic variability as possible, which was then reduced to smaller sets by applying transformation rules that map or merge phone symbols. The optimal trade-off was found measuring the phone error rates of automatically learnt grapheme-to-phone rules and by a perceptual evaluation of 27 representative synthesized sentences. Oscilações das ações de bancos brasileiros nos últimos seis anos : análise de risco e retorno

Com o aumento significativo de investidores no mercado financeiro brasileiro, falar sobre o assunto é de suma importância, devido ao seu crescimento. A partir disso, comenta-se sobre o funcionamento do mercado financeiro e da Bolsa de Valores, fala-se também sobre a Ibovespa, os perfis de investidores, os graus de investimento. Dando andamento ao projeto, aprofunda-se nos conceitos de risco e de retorno, para um melhor entendimento na análise posteriormente. Após os conceitos, examina-se os dados das ações bancárias escolhidas e analisa-se os resultados, o risco, o retorno e o índice de Sharpe. Por fim, elabora-se uma carteira fictícia com cinco das seis ações analisadas e compara-se os resultados com o Índice Bovespa.With the significant increase in investors in the Brazilian financial market, talking about the subject is of paramount importance, due to its growth. From this, it is commented on the functioning of the financial market and the Stock Exchange, it is also talked about Ibovespa, the profiles of investors, the degrees of investment. Moving forward with the project, he delves into the concepts of risk and return, for a better understanding in the analysis later. After the concepts, the data of the chosen bank shares are examined and the results, risk, return and Sharpe index are analyzed. Finally, a fictitious portfolio is prepared with five of the six stocks analyzed and the results are compared with the Bovespa Index

Complicações em fraturas da porção distal dos ossos rádio e ulna são descritos com frequência na literatura. Um canino, filhote, de raça pequena, diagnosticado com fratura transversa completa desses ossos, acabou tendo que ser submetido a dois tratamentos cirúrgicos com placa, pois o primeiro implante falhou; e os resultados deste relato demonstram que eficácia da técnica semelhante pode variar bastante de acordo com a escolha do implante e o manejo pós operatório.Complications in fractures of the distal portion of the radius and ulna bones are frequently described in the literature. Prenotification in web-based access panel surveys: the influence of mobile text messaging versus e-mail on response rates and sample composition

To compare the effectiveness of different prenotification and invitation procedures in a webbased three-wave access panel survey over 3 consecutive months, we experimentally varied the contact mode in a fully crossed two-factorial design with (a) three different prenotification conditions (mobile short messaging service [SMS], e-mail, no prenotice) and (b) two “invitation and reminder" conditions (SMS, e-mail). A group with nearly complete mobile phone coverage was randomly assigned to one of these six experimental conditions. As expected, SMS prenotifications outperformed e-mail prenotifications in terms of response rates across all three waves. Furthermore, e-mail invitation response rates outperformed those for SMS invitations. The combination of SMS prenotification and e-mail invitation performed best. The different experimental treatments did not have an effect on the sample composition of respondents between groups. (author's abstract

“DESLOCADOS AMBIENTAIS” E OS DESASTRES

Os “Deslocados Ambientais” e os desastres são problemas cada vez mais comuns no mundo globalizado, pois, encontram-se diretamente relacionados às ações humanas na sociedade complexa e as Mudanças Climáticas. Examina-se, portanto, a necessidade de identificação dos efeitos destas calamidades em face das pessoas que necessitam serem deslocadas diante dos seus acontecimentos, para tanto, far-se-á necessário compreender inicialmente e de forma lato sensu como as Mudanças Climáticas e os desastres se encontram intimamente ligados. Igualmente, é imprescindível se compreender qual o espaço destinado aos “Deslocados Ambientais” no mundo contemporâneo, a fim de, enfim, identificarem-se quais são os problemas comuns que envolvem os deslocados e as calamidades, averiguando-se, ainda, eventuais propostas para a solução destas consequências. Deste modo, para se atingir o determinado fim, utilizar-se-á métodos qualitativos de pesquisa, os quais auxiliaram neste colóquio, acrescendo-se, além disso, elementos práticos que ampararam a elucidação do presente estudo e a busca por novas soluções.Palavras-chave: Catástrofes. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the effects of these calamities on the people who need to be displaced in the face of their events, it will be necessary to understand initially how Climate Change and disasters are closely linked. Likewise, it is essential to understand the space for the "Displaced Environmental" in the contemporary world, in order to identify the common problems involving displaced persons and calamities, and to consider possible proposals for the solution to these consequences. Thus, in order to achieve the desired goal, qualitative methods of research will be used, which helped in this colloquium, adding, in addition, practical elements that supported the elucidation of the present study and the search for new solutions.Keywords: Catastrophic.
