The macro-behavior of agents' opinion under the influence of an external field

In this paper, a model about the evolution of opinion on small world networks is proposed. We studied the macro-behavior of the agents' opinion and the relative change rate as time elapses. The external field was found to play an important role in making the opinion s(t)s(t) balance or increase, and without the influence of the external field, the relative change rate γ(t)\gamma(t) shows a nonlinear increasing behavior as time runs. What's more, this nonlinear increasing behavior is independent of the initial condition, the strength of the external field and the time that we cancel the external field. Maybe the results can reflect some phenomenon in our society, such as the function of the macro-control in China or the Mass Media in our society.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

Scale-free interpersonal influences on opinions in complex systems

An important side effect of the evolution of the human brain is an increased capacity to form opinions in a very large domain of issues, which become points of aggressive interpersonal disputes. Remarkably, such disputes are often no less vigorous on small differences of opinion than large differences. Opinion differences that may be measured on the real number line may not directly correspond to the subjective importance of an issue and extent of resistance to opinion change. This is a hard problem for field of opinion dynamics, a field that has become increasingly prominent as it has attracted more contributions to it from investigators in the natural and engineering sciences. The paper contributes a scale-free approach to assessing the extents to which individuals, with unknown heterogeneous resistances to influence, have been influenced by the opinions of others

High performance computing (HPC) for the fluidization of particle-laden reactive flows

    Get PDF
The present paper shows the parallel computing performance (up to 4,096 cores) of a numerical solver for simulation of dense reactive multiphase reactive flow such as fluidized bed reactor. NEPTUNE_CFD V1.08 is a parallelized unstructured code solving unsteady Eulerian multi-fluid approach. The meshes have up to 38,000,000 cells. The simulations show an excellent scalability up to 2,536 cores

    The structure of human 5-lipoxygenase

The synthesis of both proinflammatory leukotrienes and anti-inflammatory lipoxins requires the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). 5-LOX activity is short-lived, apparently in part because of an intrinsic instability of the enzyme. We identified a 5-LOX-specific destabilizing sequence that is involved in orienting the carboxyl terminus, which binds the catalytic iron. Here, we report the crystal structure at 2.4 angstrom resolution of human 5-LOX stabilized by replacement of this sequence

National audienceWe present a probabilistic model allowing uncertainties induced by modeling errors and system-parameter uncertainties to be taken into account for a multi-layer composite sandwich panel. The sensitivity of the internal noise inside a bounded cavity coupled with the panel is analyzed with respect to uncertainties. Eight composite panels have been constructed by using the same manufacturing process. Experimental measurements of the vibration and acoustic responses have been performed in the low- and medium- frequency ranges. These measurements allow the probabilistic model of uncertainties to be identified. We present the probabilistic numerical model and its comparison with the experiments for validation
