    A Query Matching Approach for Object Relational Databases Over Semantic Cache

    The acceptance of object relational database has grown in recent years; however, their response time is a big concern. Especially, when large data are retrieved frequently on such databases from diverse servers, response time becomes alarming. Different techniques have been investigated to reduce the response time, and cache is among such techniques. Cache has three variants, namely tuple cache, page cache, and semantic cache. Semantic cache is more efficient compared to others due to capability to store already processed data with its semantics. A semantic cache stores data computed on demand rather than retrieved from the server. Several approaches proposed on relational databases over semantic caching but response time on relational database is unsatisfactory. Hence, we proposed object relational databases over semantic cache. It is a novelty because semantic cache is mature for evaluation of relational databases but not for object relational databases. In this research, the implementation of query matching on object relational database with semantic caching along with object query is investigated to reduce the response time. Then, a case study is conducted on an object relational database model, and an object (relational database) query with semantic segment is applied. Results depict significant improvement in query response time

    Electronic cigarettes consumption and associated factors among general population in Western Saudi Arabia

    Background: In recent years, consumption of E-cigarettes has increased dramatically. Several studies have focused on the prevalence of E-cigarettes among specific groups of people, using it as a substitute to traditional cigarettes, or the participant knowledge regarding risks. This research was aimed on E-cigarettes’ prevalence and its association to several factors in the general population of Western Saudi Arabia. Design and Methods: Using an observational cross-sectional study, data were collected from (n=465) above 18 years old smokers during the survey at public attractions. A validated self-administered questionnaire acquired from previous studies was employed to insure the suitability for the general population of Jeddah Saudi Arabia. Sample size was calculated via Raosoft@ and adults of either gender were included in the study. Descriptive or inferential statistical analysis was performed using SPSS. Results: The preponderance of e-cigarette smokers used entertainment as the reason for smoking, with an average of (33.9%). Although one reason for e-cigarette consumption was to cease traditional smoking, results showed an average of (49.4%), which is the majority of those who attempted to cease traditional smoking via e-cigarette, did not succeed in quitting traditional smoking. This study also demonstrated that participant that believed that e-cigarette is beneficial had a higher chance to cease conventional smoking than who did not (32.1% versus 14.6%) which is significant (p<0.001). Conclusions: In conclusion, this study estimated the prevalence of e-cigarette consumption among the population of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia along with assessment of elements which help increase the overall e-cigarette consumption in Jeddah

    BIAXIAL FLEXURAL STRENGTH AND HARDNESS OF RESIN-MATRIX CERAMIC CAD/CAM MATERIALS

    This study evaluated the biaxial flexural strength (BFS) and hardness of four resin-matrix ceramic CAD/CAM materials namely, Vita Enamic (EN), Lava Ultimate (LU), Cerasmart (CS), Crystal Ultra (CU) and one glass-matrix ceramic material, Vitablocs Mark II (VM2). Disc-shaped specimens (12 mm in diameter and 1.2mm in thickness) were prepared from the CAD/CAM materials and were accordingly allocated into two groups. One group was used for baseline measurements and the other group was subjected to ageing by thermal-cycling (TC) for 10,000 cycles. The BFS and hardness was evaluated by a universal testing machine and a Vickers hardness tester, respectively. A two-way ANOVA, one-way ANOVA with Tukeys post hoc test, and Students t-test (=0.05) were used to analyse the data (α=0.05). The highest and lowest BFS was seen in CS and VM2 and the difference in the BFS among the materials was statistically significant (p˂0.05). The comparison between the baseline and TC groups showed significant difference in the BFS for EN (p ˂0.001), LU (p˂0.001), and CS (p˂0.012) but no difference was seen for VM2 (p= 0.238) and CU (p˂0.159). The Vickers hardness number (VHN) ranking of the materials for the baseline and TC specimens, was VM2˃EN˃LU˃CS˃CU and VM2˃EN˃LU˃CU˃CS, respectively. Following the TC, all the materials showed a significantly lower VHN (p ˂ 0.05) except for VM2 (p= 0.727). The CS material had the highest BFS among the baseline and TC groups; however, it had the lowest hardness among the materials in the baseline group and had comparable values to CU after the TC. Ageing by thermal-cycling significantly lowered the BFS of the CAD/CAM materials except for VM2 and CU, and lowered the hardness of the resin-matrix ceramic materials

    The Right to Refuse: Understanding Healthcare Providers’ Perspectives on Patient Autonomy in Emergency Care

    Healthcare providers in prehospital care and emergency departments are often at the frontline of medical crises, facing a range of ethical dilemmas, particularly when it comes to patients refusing treatment. This study aimed to delve into the attitudes of these providers toward treatment refusal, unearthing the strategies they employ in navigating such challenging situations while actively working in prehospital emergency health services. Our findings showed that, as the participants’ age and experience increased, so did their inclination to respect patient autonomy and avoid persuading them to change their decision about treatment. It was noted that doctors, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians demonstrated a deeper understanding of patients’ rights than other medical specialists. However, even with this understanding, the prioritization of patients’ rights tended to diminish in life-threatening situations, giving rise to ethical dilemmas. This underlines the complexity of balancing the healthcare professionals’ responsibilities and the patients’ autonomy, which can generate ethically challenging scenarios for those working in emergency healthcare. By investigating these attitudes and experiences, this study seeks to foster a more profound understanding of the ethical quandaries faced by emergency healthcare providers. Our ultimate aim is to contribute to the development of effective strategies that support both patients and professionals in managing these tough circumstances

    2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, methylmethacrylate, ethylene glycol dimethyl methacrylate, and lignocaine (drug) were mixed together and the monomers were copolymerized at 60 &#176;C through a free radical polymerization in the presence of &#945;,&#945;&#8242;-Azoisobutyronitrile in tetrahydrofuran. A series of copolymer/drug composites with different monoacrylate monomer compositions were prepared by solvent evaporation and characterized by different methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, and mechanical and optical testing. The water content in the copolymers and the cell viability test on the samples were also examined in this investigation. The results of the analyses of the properties of this drug-carrier system are promising, indicating that this material may be a potential candidate for contact lens applications. The release dynamic of this medication from the prepared drug-carrier systems was investigated in neutral pH media. The results obtained revealed that the diffusion of lignocaine through the copolymer matrix obeys the Fick model and the dynamic release can be easily controlled by the methyl methacrylate content in the copolymer
