The object of this work is the analysis of the Espadaña's controversy about the popular poetry. This controversy is the beginning of the social poetry. But we try to offer a unusual vision: to study the intervention of some vanguardist poets, Vicente Aleixandre, Miguel Labordeta and Juan Eduardo Cirlot.

The main target of this paper is analyzing the feminist literary criticism about the medieval castilian exempla. The contribution of the feminist criticism to the medieval studies has been very important, with interesting analyses about the most frequent female characters in exempla or about misogyny. Moreover, the case of Don Juan Manuel is specially meaningful, because the feminist literary criticism has read El Conde Lucanor in different and opposite manners.
