    Comparative assessment of reproductive capacity of boar-sires depending on the breed and season

    The article highlights the results of the reproductive capacity of different breeds of boar sires in the farms of eastern, southern, and central regions of Ukraine in dynamics over three years are given. It represented the influence of the year's season on sperm quality by estimating the ejaculate volume, concentration, and motility of sperm of boars-sires of the different breeds and their hybrids. Data were also calculated on the culling of ejaculates of boar sires of various breeds for the years 2019–2021 in the dynamics. In a comparative aspect, the indicators were analyzed by the following genotypes: Large White, Ukrainian Meat, Landrace, Duroc, Yorkshire, and synthetic line Makster. The reproductive capacity of boars was within the limits of the indicators for the elite and first classes. However, specific differences were observed between boars of different breeds, which were constant and took place during the three studied years. The difference in the concentration of sperm in the ejaculates of the Ukrainian Meat breed gradually decreased starting from 2019 and was the smallest in 2021. The highest ejaculate volume was found in boars of the Ukrainian meat breed (310.9 ± 113.2 cm3), and the sperm concentration was the highest in boar sires of the Large White breed (215.7 ± 83.5 million/cm3). On the other side, hybrids of the Large White breed had low indicators compared to other groups of animals (Large White × Yorkshire – 184.2 ± 68.5 million/cm3, Large White × Makster – 189.0 ± 59.7 million/cm3). Sperm motility did not undergo significant breed differences: the average annual indicator of motility was 7.6 ± 0.09 points, and it was the highest in the winter period (8.6 ± 0.11 points), however, for the established variances; the dilution was used 1.65–3.58 times and a high percentage of unusable sperm (15.4–29.4 % of the total amount) was established in a large number of samples. According to the results of the annual analysis of the sperm production of boars, a high degree of culling of ejaculates was established for various reasons (high level of sperm agglutination (52.3–74.0 %), low concentration of germ cells (14.5–29.8 %), presence of foreign impurities (5,8–12.4 %). The highest percentage of culling was in summer (20.3 %). Thus, the obtained results showed the breed and seasonal characteristics of the reproductive capacity of breeding boars

    Associations of genotype variants of single nucleotide polymorphism of gene orosomucoid-1-like-protein 3 and atopic diseases at children.

    The paper presents data of the firstly conducted in Ukraine own study of associations of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs7216389 of orsomucoid-1-like protein 3 gene (ORMDL3) variants’ with atopic diseases in children. Aim: to detect clinical significance of the SNP rs7216389 ORMDL3 in genesis of atopic diseases in children. We examined 153 children aged 3 to 18 years. The main group consisted of 119 children with clinical manifestations of atopic diseases with elevated total serum immunoglobulin E, confirmed by immunofluorescence assay method. The comparison group consisted of 34 children with a non-aggravated individual or family allergic anamnesis in whom there was detected the absence of any clinical syndromes and symptoms of atopic diseases and, mostly, physiological parameters of the serum total immunoglobulin E by immunofluorescence assay method. All the children were genotyped by ORMDL3 gene using polymerase chain reaction in real time with a restricted fragment length polymorphism. The genotype T/T  within SNP rs7216389 of ORMDL3 gene significantly prevails among the children with atopic diseases and is associated with an increased incidence risk of seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (SARC) by 4.11 times (95% CI 1.55; 16.61), perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR) by 5.07 times (95% CI 1.22; 13.90) times and bronchial asthma (BA) by 10.31 times (95% CI 2.50; 42.62). Children with genotype T/T in locus rs7216389 of the ORMDL3 gene are the increased risk group for developing the atopic diseases. Children with genotype C/C in locus rs7216389 of the ORMDL3 gene are the decreased risk group for the development of atopic dermatitis

    The substantiation of the use of antioxidant compounds to correct the reproductive capacity of males is an urgent problem of modern reproductive science. Some amino acids have pronounced antioxidant properties, including N-acetylcysteine (NAC). The work aimed to determine the effect of oral administration of NAC on sperm quality and hormonal balance in infertile boars. According to the results of andrological dispensation, three groups of animals were formed – I experimental groups (n = 5) and II (n = 5), with reduced reproductive capacity, and control (n = 5) with total reproductive capacity. The animals of the experimental groups were orally administered NAC at a dose of 75 mg/kg body weight (test I) and 50 mg/kg body weight (test II) for 30 days. With the introduction of different doses of NAC, an improvement in the quality of the ejaculates of the boars of the experimental groups was observed. In I experimental group, on the 120th day of the experiment, a probable increase in motility by 35.5 %, ejaculate volume by 8.7 %, and concentration by 5.1 % were established (P ˂ 0.05). On the other hand, the content of spermatozoa with morphological abnormalities probably decreased (by 22.7 %, P ˂ 0.01). Similar changes were obtained in boars of the II experimental group – the number of morphologically abnormal cells probably decreased – on the 90th and 120th day of the study by 17.7 % (P ˂ 0.05) and 24.7 % (P ˂ 0.01), respectively. Sperm motility and ejaculate volume increased significantly – by 28.1 % (P ˂ 0.01) and 7.9 % (P ˂ 0.05). The use of NAC contributed to the normalization of the endocrine function of the gonads, as a result of which an increase in the level of total testosterone in the blood serum of boars – an experimental group I was established by 16.3 % (P ˂ 0.05) on the 30th day of the study and by 33.7 % (P ˂ 0.001) on the 45th day. Similar changes were obtained in the animals of the II experimental group – an increase in testosterone level by 13.8 % and 29.8 % on the 30th and 45th day of the experiment, respectively (P ˂ 0.05–0.01). The estradiol level tended to decrease on the 30th day of the study. In contrast, on the 45th day, it was significantly lower than before administration by 13.6 % and 12.3 % in animals of I and II experimental groups, respectively (P ˂ 0.05). Testosterone-estradiol ratio up to 7.4–8.2 units on the 45th day of the study, which indicated the normalization of the balance of sex hormones in the body of boars. The obtained results recommend NAC as an effective means of correcting infertility in boars.Обґрунтування застосування антиоксидантних сполук для корекції відтворної здатності самців є актуальною проблемою сучасної репродуктології. Деякі амінокислоти мають виражені антиоксидантні властивості, в тому числі й N-ацетилцистеїн (NAC). Метою роботи було визначення впливу перорального застосування NAC на якість сперми і гормональний баланс у неплідних кнурів. За результатами андрологічної диспансеризації було сформовано три групи тварин – дослідні групи І (n = 5) та ІI (n = 5) зі зниженими показниками відтворної здатності й контрольна (n = 5) – з повноцінною репродуктивною здатністю. Тваринам дослідних груп перорально задавали NAC у дозі 75 мг/кг живої масу (І дослідна) та 50 мг/кг живої маси (ІІ дослідна) упродовж 30 діб. За введення різних доз NAC спостерігали поліпшення якості еякулятів кнурів дослідних груп. У І дослідній групі на 120 добу експерименту встановлено вірогідне зростання рухливості сперміїв на 35,5 %, об’єму еякуляту на 8,7 % та концентрації на 5,1 % (P ˂ 0,05). Натомість вміст сперміїв із морфологічними аномаліями вірогідно зменшувався (на 22,7 %, P ˂ 0,01). Подібні зміни були отримані у кнурів ІІ дослідної групи – кількість морфологічно аномальних клітин вірогідно знижувалася – на 90 й 120 добу дослідження на 17,7 % (P ˂ 0,05) і 24,7 % (P ˂ 0,01) відповідно. Значно зросла рухливість сперміїв і об’єм еякуляту – на 28,1 % (P ˂ 0,01) й 7,9 % (P ˂ 0,05). Застосування NAC сприяло нормалізації ендокринної функції гонад, внаслідок чого, встановлено збільшення рівня загального тестостерону у сироватці крові кнурів – І дослідної групи на 16,3 % (P ˂ 0,05) на 30 добу дослідження й на 33,7 % (P ˂ 0,001) на 45 добу. Подібні зміни отримано й у тварин ІІ дослідної групи – збільшення рівня тестостерону на 13,8 % й 29,8 % на 30 й 45 добу експерименту відповідно (P ˂ 0,05–0,01). Рівень естрадіолу мав тенденцію до зниження на 30 добу дослідження, тимчасом як на 45 добу – був вірогідно нижчим за показники до введення на 13,6 % і 12,3 % у тварин І та ІІ дослідних груп відповідно (P ˂ 0,05). Тестостерон-естрадіолове співвідношення до 7,4–8,2 од. на 45 добу дослідження, що свідчило про нормалізацію балансу статевих гормонів у організмі кнурів. Отримані результати дозволяють рекомендувати NAC як ефективний засіб корекції неплідності кнурів

    Association between atopic and non-atopic diseases at children.

    The paper presents the data of the association analysis bet­ween the diseases composig the atopic march (AM) in children – atopic dermatitis (AD), seasonal rhinoconjunctivitis (SARC) and perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR), bronchial asthma (BA), with non-atopic allergic diseases – acute and recurrent urticaria (AcU/RecU), Quincke edema (QE), and also with diseases of the digestive system (DS) – functional disorders of the biliary system (FDBS) and reactive pancreatitis (RP). The association between AD and food allergy (FA) in children has been determined, which is recorded as a direct association. A direct association was established between chronic infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract and the PAR as well as BA. The lack of association between atopic and non-atopic allergic diseases had been confirmed. В статье приведены данные анализа ассоциации между болезнями, составляющими атопический марш (АМ) у детей – атопическим дерматитом (АД), сезонным аллергическим риноконьюнктивитом (САРК) и круглогодичным аллергическим ринитом (КАР), бронхиальной астмой (БА) – с неатопическими аллергическими болезнями – острой и рецидивирующей крапивницей (ОК/РК), отёком Квинке (ОКв), а также болезнями пищеварительной системы (ПС) – функциональными расстройствами билиарной системы (ФРБС) и реактивным панкреатитом (РП). Определены ассоциации между АД, АМ и пищевой аллергией (ПА) у детей, что зафиксировано в виде прямой корреляционной связи. Определена прямая ассоциация между хроническими инфекционными заболеваниями верхних дыхательных путей и САРК, КАР и БА.     Synthesis, Morphology, and Optical Properties of Au/CdS Hybrid Nanocomposites Stabilized by Branched Polymer Matrices

    Metal/semiconductor (Au/CdS) nanocomposites were synthesized in the solution of branched D-g-PAA polymer. TEM and DLS of Au/CdS/D-g-PAA nanocomposites revealed complicated nanocomposite structure consisting of the Au nanoparticles (NPs) of 6 nm in size surrounded by small CdS NPs with size of 3 nm. These nanocomposites formed the aggregates-clusters with average size of 50–800 nm. Absorption spectra of Au/CdS nanocomposites consist of the bands of excitons in CdS NPs and surface plasmons in Au ones. The surface plasmon band of gold NPs is red shifted and broadened in Au/CdS/D-g-PAA nanocomposites comparing to the one of Au NPs in Au/D-g-PAA proving the fact of close location of CdS and Au NPs in the synthesized Au/CdS/D-g-PAA nanocomposites. The PL spectra of Au/CdS nanocomposites originate from the radiative transitions in excitons in CdS NPs. The 4-fold increase of intensity of free exciton PL is observed for CdS NPs in Au/CdS/D-g-PAA comparing to CdS ones in CdS/D-g-PAA that is due to PL enhancement by local field of surface plasmons of Au NPs. Also, the 12-fold decrease of intensity of localized exciton PL is observed for CdS NPs in Au/CdS/D-g-PAA comparing to CdS ones in CdS/D-g-PAA. Most probably, it is due to passivation of the surface of CdS NPs carried out by the Au ones
