Investigating shellfish deposition and landscape history at the Natia Beach site, Fiji

The relationship between environmental variation and subsistence practices is a central point of discussion in much Oceanic archaeology. While human predation can significantly reduce prey populations, environmental variation also contributes to reductions in prey abundance, possibly leading to increased human competition and resource scarcity. At the Natia Beach site, Nacula Island, Fiji, geoarchaeological evidence suggests that coastal progradation began soon after initial occupation of the coastal plain. Additionally, at approximately 650 BP a marked increase in clay and silt deposition occurred. Changes in coastal geomorphology may be explained by landscape response to regional Mid-Holocene sea level fall combined with human induced soil erosion due to upland settlement. Smaller scale environmental changes associated with climate variability may have also played a role. Additionally, landscape change appears to have had a measurable impact on local nearshore mollusks that are sensitive to high levels of water turbidity. Minor evidence of human exploitation is observable in this shellfish assemblage, although changes in predation pressure may have allowed shellfish populations to recover. Increased ceramic diversity and fortified settlements also appear at approximately 650 BP on Nacula and other parts of Fiji. The suite of changes at Natia may be explained by processes of regional and local environmental changes, and human adaptation in terms of subsistence, spatial organization, and competition

NATIONAL IDENTITY AND MYSTICAL BEAUTY IN WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS' „CELTIC TWILIGHT”

The end of 19th century was generally a significant and transitional period, as from the beginning of the 20th, modernism was gradually replacing the Victorian era. However, the prospect of change was even more immediate in Ireland than anywhere else. The Irish hoped to escape from the colonial restrictions imposed by the state, and from the new century they already counted themselves among the free nations. Yeats shared the same spirit, and therefore the awarding of the Nobel Prize in 1923 had a symbolic meaning for him, since Ireland had just gained independence. And the poet used every possible occasion to point it out and replied to congratulatory letters in this way: "I consider myself to have received this award as a representative of Irish literature and not as an independent person. Welcome to the free state.” [Foster 2003, p. 656.

    Predicting Survived and Killed Mutants

Mutatsioonitestimine on tarkvaratestimises kasutatav meetod hindamaks testikomplekti kvaliteeti. Hindamise ajal genereeritakse programmi lĂ€htekoodist suur hulk mutante ja jooksutatakse nende peal testikomplekti. Tapetud mutantide osakaal kĂ”igist mutantidest nĂ€itab testikomplekti headust. EesmĂ€rk on mĂ”ista, kas testid suudavad leida muteerunud koodi, andes sellega infot testide kvaliteedi kohta. Mutatsioonitestimine on ÀÀrmiselt kulukas ja aeganĂ”udev meetod, kuna kĂ”ikidel mutantidel peab ĂŒkshaaval jooksutama terve testikomplekti. KĂ€esolevas töös uuritakse ennustavat mutatsioonitestimise meetodit, mille toel tĂ”hustada mutatsioonitestimise protsessi. PMT treenib klassifitseerimismudeli, kasutades selleks muteeritud koodil ja testikomplektil pĂ”hinevaid tunnuseid. Treenitud mudeliga ennustatakse, kas mutant tapetakse vĂ”i jÀÀb ellu, mutanti ennast testikomplekti vastu jooksutamata.Antud lĂ€henemist katsetati mitme tarkvaraprojekti peal. Kaht Java keelel pĂ”hinevat projekti kasutati katsetamaks ennustavat mutatsioonitestimist kahes erinevas olukorras: ĂŒle mitme projekti ja ĂŒle mitme versiooni. C-keelel pĂ”hinevat tarkvaraprojekti kasutati uurimaks, kas ennustavat mutatsioonitestimist saab rakendada ka teistel tehnoloogiatel pĂ”hinevatel projektidel. Katsetulemused nĂ€itavad, et ennustav mutatsioonitestimine suudab ennustada mutantide ellujÀÀmist vĂ”i tapmist kĂ”rge tĂ€psusega. Mutation Testing is a powerful technique for evaluating the quality of a test suite. During evaluation a large number of mutants is generated and executed against the test suite. The percentage of killed mutants indicates the strength of the test suite. The main idea behind this is to see if test cases are robust enough to detect mutated code. Mutation Testing is an extremely costly and time-consuming technique since each mutant needs to be executed against the test suite. For this reason, this paper investigates Predictive Mutation Testing (PMT) technique to make Mutation Testing more efficient. PMT constructs a classification model based on the features related to the mutated code and the test suite and uses the model to predict execution results of a mutant without actually executing it. The model predicts if a mutant will be killed or it will survive. This approach has been evaluated on several projects. Two Java projects were used to assess PMT under two application scenarios: cross-project and cross-version. C project was also used to explore if PMT can be applied to a different technology. PMT has been evaluated using only one version of a C project. The experimental results demonstrate that PMT is able to predict execution results of mutants with high accuracy. On Java projects it achieves above 0.90 ROC-AUC values and less than 10% Prediction Error values. On the C project it achieves above 0.90 ROC-AUC value and less than 1% Prediction Error value. Overall, PMT is shown to perform well on different technologies and be robust when dealing with imbalanced data

A Case Study of the Higher Education System in Georgia

The higher education system of countries is an important area that determines the countries drive for development. This thesis aims to scrutinize the higher education system in Georgia and how the system translates and resonates with Georgia’s development. Several questions have been raised in light of the several reforms that have greeted the higher education system in Georgia and these questions are summed up into three all-encompassing questions in this thesis. The questions includes – How is the higher education situation in Georgia? Why is it in its current state and what are the implications of this current state? This thesis used the single case study method and supported it with policy analysis to analyze the several reforms and to find answers to these questions. This thesis gathered corroborative information through interviews conducted with four experts who have played active roles and still do in the Georgian higher education system. The internal determinants for each policy and reform was explored to understand the motive behind the changes and this thesis eventually compared the changes in the Georgian higher education system to that effected in the Estonian higher education system. It became clear that the questions about the sustainability of the Georgian higher education system were premised upon credible consequences trailing each reform and this thesis eventually reached the conclusion that the Georgian higher education system lacked long-term credibility. This thesis concludes that while Georgia aspires for EU membership, the country’s higher education system is pivotal for all round development

There is discussed the results of Presidential elections of 2018 year in Georgia on the bases of Anatomy of Competitive Authoritarianism. In particular, there are shown two important aspects of the sense of competitive authoritarianism: Inequality of government and opposition in terms of attracting election finance and an unsuccessful attempt to develop a document reflecting the ethical principles of behavior of election subjects during the election campaign. The article is prepared on the basis of electronic and printed media materials regarding the election campaign finances, as well as interviews with people involved in development of the ethical principles presidential candidates behavior
