Doctor of PhilosophySchool of Family Studies and Human ServicesMajor Professor Not ListedSuicide continues to be one of the biggest concerns in modern society globally. The understanding of suicide and suicidal ideation has evolved over time and yet there is still a lot of unknowns in how to assess, predict, and prevent suicide from happening. Continued research on suicidal ideation and behavior is essential to increase our understanding of its drivers and identify new prevention strategies. This qualitative study analyzed data on indirect and direct suicidal drivers from 35 adult participants who self-report as having suicidal ideation. Thematic analysis uncovered seven distinct themes that reflect the types of suicidal drivers experienced by participants with active and passive suicidal ideation: being a liability, feeling alienated, perceived defectiveness, low self-worth, emotional anguish, health issues, and external stressors. Some of these suicidal drivers were self-imposed while others were other-imposed. The study explored the function of suicide for participants and identified them as to provide relief, as a form of self-punishment, and to gain control. Implications for practice, policy, and research are discussed

Two hundred healthy children aged 3–18 years were included in the study to determine liver stiffness indices by means of shear wave elastometry. The difference is significant when we compared shear wave velocity in children aged 3–6 years, on the one hand, and in children aged 7–18 years, on the other (p = 0.001). Liver stiffness indices in boys and girls were not different. As a result, liver stiffness indices in children in various age groups have been obtained, which can be recommended as normal ones for pediatric patients

The impact of the institutional environment on the shadow economy

    Get PDF
This article aims to explore the relationship of the shadow economy with the institutional environment and develop practical recommendations for government policies around the world, and particularly in Russia. The urgency of the issue under research is caused by the existing need to study the shadow economy in order to find ways to reduce its scale and level out its negative externalities. Despite the fact that most of the papers focus on tax burden as a fundamental determinant of the shadow economy, the authors of this article believe that institutional tools can expand the boundaries of research on the content of the shadow economy as an economic category. Statistical analysis of 105 countries with different development levels revealed a stronger correlation between the quality of institutions and the size of the shadow economy than the one between total tax burden and the size of the shadow economy. The findings of this article can be useful in developing state strategies for combating the shadow economy and carrying out economic policies of the state as a whole

Strategizing the Development of Food Markets in the Region by Employing Supply Chain Management: A Product-Territorial and Product-Spatial Approach

    Get PDF
This article substantiates the need to strategize food markets’ development in the region as components of the region's reproduction cycle of food products by using supply chain management. The authors suggest two approaches in terms of this development in the region. Within the framework of the product-territorial approach, strategies have been defined for the development of markets for individual food products in order to activate internal sources of forming product supply. Within the framework of the product-spatial approach, the need to develop strategic priorities for the development of local food markets to best meet the population's food needs, taking into account inter-municipal socio-economic differentiation, has been justified. The scheme for the strategic supply chain management implementation of the local food markets’ development is based on embedding strategic objectives, priorities, and guidelines for their development in the strategies of the socio-economic development in the region and its municipal formations

AbstractThe article deals with the attempt to verify the prevalence of abbreviation-related problems in medical translation over other problematic lexical groups. Medical abbreviations appear extremely fast in modern English, evidenced by abbreviations that are not registered in dictionaries. As a result, the main problem of medical abbreviations translation is that the same abbreviations may have different meanings, depending on the disease, anatomy, or procedure being discussed. The aim of the paper is to study general and nationally specific features of the English medical abbreviations, to survey extra- and intralinguistic requisites of their formation, to determine regularities of medical abbreviations usage in modern English, to analyze peculiarity of classification of abbreviations. Special attention was also given to investigating some basic procedures applicable in translating them. We used such research methods as the method of component analysis of meaning based on dictionary definitions, the method of contextual analysis of the abbreviations, identifying their situational relevance. We also collected and processed nonregistered English medical abbreviations. Continuous sampling of the studied units of scientific and medical texts identified corpus examples. Material for the study was selected from articles, periodical literature on medicine and its related branches of science, from encyclopedic dictionaries. In conclusion, ordering of abbreviation in medicine can be achieved through a more thorough study of medical abbreviations, their proper use in medical professionals training and by means of modeling, which fixes the most convenient, concise and succinct clichés in medical discourse

Tectonics and Metallogeny of East Kazakhstan

    Get PDF
General regularities in the formation of tectonic and metallogenic structures are considered as a scientific basis for forecasting new deposits of nonferrous, precious and rare metals in the territory of East Kazakhstan and are considered on the basis of modern geotectonic concepts of the Earth self-development. Regular connections between the main ore-bearing structures and the leading geological-industrial types of deposits are determined with features of the deep crustal structure and certain geodynamic settings of various geotectonic cycles and eras (from the Precambrian to the Quaternary). The belt placement of ore deposits is emphasized with the identification of four ore belts: Rudny Altai (Cu, Pb, Zn, Au), West Kalba (Au, Ag), Kalba-Narym (Ta, Nb, Be, Li, Sn, W) and Zharma-Saurs (Cr, Ni, Co, Au, TR). In the location of gold ore deposits, the Zaisan suture zone, formed in the collision zone of the Kazakhstan and Siberian lithospheric plates, is the ore-controlling value. Spatial-genetic connections of rare metal and rare-earth deposits with granitoid belts formed in post-collision (orogenic) geodynamic conditions of Permian time are determined. The research is aimed at strengthening the mineral and raw material base for the operating enterprises of the East Kazakhstan region
