Presentamos una reflexión sobre el papel de la Educación a partir de las lecciones de la experiencia ' Canillejas imagina un Parque' , un proyecto educativo dirigido por Otro Hábitat en colaboración con el Colegio La Alameda , que busca animar a los alumnos a participar en un proceso de diseño e intervención colectiva para transformar un solar enfrente del colegio. Fa vorecer la participación de los niños en la mejora de su entorno urbano puede ser una estrategia clave para hacer frente a las desigualdades urbanas y generar un entendimiento común sobre la responsabilidad de todos en el desarrollo sostenible de nuestras ciudade

Supported Gold Nanoparticles for Alcohols Oxidation in Continuous-Flow Heterogeneous Systems

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were anchored on alkynyl carbamate-functionalized support materials having the suitable features for application as catalysts in continuous-flow packed bed reactors. The functionalization step was carried out by grafting with the di-functional organosilane [3-(2-propynylcarbamate)propyl]triethoxysilane (PPTEOS) three commercial micrometer-sized oxide supports, i.e. silica, alumina, and titania. The alkynyl-carbamate moieties were capable to straightforwardly reduce the gold precursor HAuCl4 yielding the supported AuNPs systems Au/SiO2@Yne, Au/Al2O3@Yne, and Au/TiO2@Yne. A comparison among the three materials revealed that silica allowed the highest organic functionalization (12 wt%) as well as the highest gold loading (3.7 wt%). Moreover, TEM investigation showed only for Au/SiO2@Yne the presence of homogeneously distributed, spherically shaped AuNPs (av. diameter 15 nm). Au/SiO2@Yne is an efficient catalyst, both in batch and flow conditions, in the oxidation of a large variety of alcohols, using H2O2 as oxidizing agent, at a temperature of 90 \ub0C. Furthermore, under flow conditions, the catalyst worked for over 50 h without any significant decrease in the catalytic activity. The catalytic activity of the three catalysts was evaluated and compared in the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol as a model substrate. We found that the flow approach plays a strategic role in preserving the physical and chemical integrity of the solid catalysts during its use, with remarkable consequences for the reaction conversion (from 2% in batch to 80 % in flow) in the case of Au/TiO2@Yne

Schizophrenia and quality of life: how important are symptoms and functioning?

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Objective</p> <p>the relationship between Quality of life (QoL) and global functioning and symptoms in outpatients with Schizophrenia</p> <p>Method</p> <p>The study was carried out on the outpatients with schizophrenia attending a Community Mental Health Centre in 2008. Each patient completed the WHO QoL Instrument - Brief and was administered the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale-24 to assess psychiatric symptoms and the VADO Personal and social Functioning Scale to assess the level of functioning.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>subjects showed an intermediate satisfaction on the overall QoL and health; these data can be juxtaposed to the national standard sample rates. QoL resulted positively associated to personal and social functioning, while it was negatively related to psychiatric symptoms.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>patients showed a fairly good satisfaction in regard to their QoL. The severity of psychiatric symptoms is one of the elements influencing QoL, together with personal and social functioning that plays a relevant role.</p

Sclerosing Angiomatoid Nodular Transformation of the Adrenal Gland: A Case Report of a Novel Histopathological Entity

The finding of an indeterminate adrenal mass at radiological investigations is a challenge for physicians. Complex diagnostic work-up, periodic follow-up, or surgical intervention are therefore needed to rule out malignant lesions. Tertiary care hospitals are provided with F-18-fludeoxyglucose (F-18-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) and F-18-dihydroxyphenylalanine (F-18-DOPA) PET, which aid in the characterization of indeterminate adrenal masses. Nevertheless, the histopathological examination may be required to exclude malignancy or rare etiologies. A 54-year-old woman presented to our clinic 6 months after a cerebral hemorrhage. She was hypertensive and had recently discovered a left adrenal mass of 15 mm during an abdominal ultrasound. Contrast-enhanced CT, following adrenal protocol, revealed a 14-mm adrenal mass without characteristics suggestive of an adrenal adenoma. Tumor markers were negative. Functional tests excluded hormone hypersecretion. An F-18-DOPA PET was negative. An F-18-FDG PET showed mild uptake of both the adrenal glands, with a more circumscribed pattern in the left one (maximum standardized uptake value 5 4). As the clinical diagnosis was still indeterminate, we performed laparoscopic left adrenalectomy. The histopathological examination described a sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the adrenal gland, a benign lesion already described as a rare occurrence only in the spleen. IgG4 levels were reduced. In conclusion, this is a report of a SANT of the adrenal gland, a novel entity that should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of indeterminate adrenal masses at CT scan. Effect of different pre-slaughter procedures on behavioural and blood parameters in pigs.

The effect of different pre-slaughter procedures on behavioural and blood parameters were evaluated on 120 pigs reared in one farm and delivered in groups of 40 subjects to three slaughterouses. Due to the different attitude of the personnel involved, differences in handling were evident at loading and at unloading where the difficulties to srive the pigs incresed the behaviuoral events. Blood analysis parameter showed that different resting time did not reduce the physical stress exoerienced by the pigs, which seems related "per se" to loading, transport and unloading and not to the different handling applied in each slaughter plant

Preliminary investigation of the use of digital image analysis for raw ham evaluation

In order to find objective parameters for the evaluation of pig thighs to be used for PDO processing, digital images of the external surface of 384 left thighs were acquired, to be used for multivariate image analysis. The following parameters were also measured on the same samples: weight, length, circumference, thickness of fat and thigh, globosity index and colour of skin. Moreover, a subjective evaluation of veining and red skin defects was also made by an expert assessor. Multivariate analysis of the digital images showed a separation of the analysed samples in two clusters, whose differences were then investigated on the basis of the other traits. Various differences between the two clusters where found, mainly for the size-related parameters

Discussão de casos e rodas de conversa: instrumentos para a melhoria do atendimento de pessoas com transtorno ou deficiência, envolvendo saúde mental, na Defensoria Pública do Estado de São Paulo / Case discussions and conversations: instruments to improve the assistance to people with mental health disorders or disabilities in the Public Defender's office of the State of São Paulo

O presente trabalho apresenta dois instrumentos interdisciplinares - a discussão de casos e as rodas de conversas - utilizados para o atendimento de pessoas com transtorno ou deficiência,  envolvendo saúde mental, na Regional Central da Defensoria Pública do Estado de São Paulo, em 2017. Além disso, discorre brevemente sobre os espaços institucionais em que há atuação interdisciplinar na Defensoria Pública. Porém, o principal objetivo será registrar as atividades, como parte do processo interdisciplinar. E, para além dos benefícios resultantes do registro, é refletir sobre dificuldades e benefícios para as/os profissionais que participaram e redigiram este trabalho, à instituição e aos atendimentos.
