The attitude of one's student religiosity can be seen from various sides of human life. Religious activities are not only seen from perseverance in worship (rituals), but when carrying out other activities outside of worship that is driven by supernatural attitudes, it becomes one of the attitudes of religiosity. This attitude of religiosity is usually one of the factors of one's achievement. Through the understanding of each religion that is taught, it gives birth to good habits in its activities. This study habit will increase one's achievement in learning and attitude. To be able to prove it, it is necessary to do research on this problem. The purpose of this study is to determine the most dominant religious attitude towards learning achievement. This research was conducted using quantitative research with online questionnaire data collection to students and educators. The results show that most of the religious attitudes in the form of reading the Koran are the most dominant attitudes that affect learning achievement. They mentioned that the cultivation of religious attitudes in Islamic teachings can develop one's character, apart from that religious attitudes also have a positive role in one's learning outcomes. Although, a religious attitude does not guarantee a person's level of success, at least a good attitude is embedded in oneself

Uncovering Malaysian students’ motivation to learning science

    Get PDF
This paper aims to highlight two pertinent points relating to science education in Malaysia; first identifying aspects underlying students’ motivation to learning science, and second outlining the profile of performance indicators leading towards successful science learning among upper secondary students in Malaysia. It is acknowledged that good science learning outcome does not only rely on the way teaching is carried out but also on other factors such as students’ ability and talent, language proficiency, and the right attitude toward science learning, just to name a few. Nonetheless, little do we know the extent to which these factors contribute towards students’ successful science learning. Through preliminary yet in-depth interviews with students, teachers and panel of experts, the researchers list various factors that influence science learning outcomes. Information pertaining to these factors is then used to develop a comprehensive yet psychometrically sound inventory that will help assess students’ potential to excel in science

Gamma irradiation is an effective and widely used method in the agricultural sector to alter the traits of plants especially for commercialization purposes and as a mitigation measure to ensure food security in the future. Vigna radiata (mung bean) is one of the most important legume crops in Asian countries that is not fully exploited. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the effects of gamma irradiation on the cytology and growth of mung beans. The mung bean seeds were exposed to different doses of gamma radiation; 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 Gy. The increasing dose of gamma irradiation caused an insignificant decrease (p>0.05) in the mitotic index of V. radiata meristematic cells. However, a significant increase at p<0.05 in the percentage of clastogenic chromosomal aberration was observed in the meristematic cells of plants irradiated at 800 and 1000 Gy. The survival percentage, plant height, and root length were inversely proportional to the percentage of chromosomal aberration and clastogenic abnormalities when the irradiation dose exceeded the LD50 (752.50 Gy). In conclusion, gamma rays greatly induced clastogenic abnormalities which have varying impacts on the cytology and growth of V. radiata plants

During flood season, fire department or rescuing team are facing the situation which is lack of man power. To overcome this problem, an integrated rescuing boat control system has been proposed. The developed rescuing boat controller is convenience and easy to handle. It has been built with an integrated system which could be handled manually or automatically. The controller is developed using microcontroller Arduino. For an autonomous mode, some sensors has been introduced to sense the obstacles and giving the instruction to the Arduino to changed the direction of the boat. For manual control, rescuing boat could be controlled by Blynk application through smart phone. By introcuding an integrated rescuing boat control system, the victim can save their own from dangerous and reduce dramatically the number of death or injuries due to the flood

Here, we investigated an outbreak of leptospirosis among reserve military recruits that occurred following a survival exercise in the Hulu Perdik forest within the Hulu Langat district, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Blood samples from the 12 patients that presented symptoms for febrile illness on clinical examination were subjected to laboratory investigation, comprising Lepto IgM rapid test, IgM ELISA, and microscopic agglutination test (MAT). All these patients were interviewed for possible risk factors for leptospirosis. Rodent trapping and environmental sampling for possible isolation of leptospires in the outbreak site was performed. The isolated leptospires were genetically characterized and investigated for the potential epidemiological link with human leptospirosis. Among the 12 patients, two (2/12; 16.6%) were confirmed positive for leptospirosis by microscopic agglutination test (MAT with titers 400-800; serovar autumnalis and hardjobovis). Two Leptospira species from rodents (L. interrogans and L. borgpetersenii) and two from the environment (L. kmetyi and L. wolffii) were identified. The possible epidemiological link between human serovars and animal Leptospira species indicates rodents as the potential reservoir while the environment (soil and water) serves as a transmission route. This investigation highlights the robust presence of pathogenic leptospires on Malaysian environment and rodents which may present the risk of infection, especially among high-risk individuals. Hence, occupational risk individuals are cautioned to observe appropriate preventive measures including prophylaxis and seek immediate medical attention for any illness following similar activities

In mushroom cultivation, acute gamma radiation can be used and studied to improve the production of its fruiting body. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the effect of gamma radiation on the mycelial growth and production of the fruiting body of Volvariella volvacea (Bull.) Singer. The mycelia were exposed to gamma radiation at various doses: 0 (control), 300, 600, 900, 1200 and 1500 Gy. The irradiated mycelial growth rate was recorded on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and spawning substrate. The spawn was then produced by inoculating the treated mycelia on paddy straw and subsequently cultivated on an empty fruit bunch to compare the production. The result showed no significant difference in mycelial growth rate on wheat, the number of mushrooms, and mushroom weight between control and treatments of 300, 600 and 900 Gy. However, there was the presence of hairy structures on the fruiting bodies of V. volvacea in all spawns with irradiated mycelia and the production of clustered fruiting bodies from spawns treated with 1200 Gy observed. The effect of treatments on the texture of fruiting bodies was insignificant. Although acute gamma radiation did not significantly increase the production of V. volvacea compared to the control treatment, there were morphological changes observed on the V. volvacea fruiting body which can be studied further

Port terminal safety: A conceptual paper on factors that affects occupational stress risk assessment in container terminal

    No full text
A part of the supply chain that is very important to Malaysia is the port sector. A high-risk work environment is leading to a rise in occupational stress among port terminal workers. It is necessary for an organisation to correctly diagnose the aspects of the working lifestyle conditions that are perceived as risks by workers and to investigate the consequences of these risks in order for the organisation to be successful in the prevention of occupational stress problems. The aim of this conceptual paper is to investigate the factors that influence the safety practitioner's perception of safety and health risk assessment at port terminal. Data on safety and health that were collected in the past were analysed. Misunderstanding over the definition of a hazard and how to interpret a risk assessment matrix were both factors. This paper will scrutinize those factors and accomplish suggestions for how research should be done in Malaysia in the future
