Vortex information display system program description manual
A vortex information display system is described which provides flexible control through system-user interaction for collecting wing-tip-trailing vortex data, processing this data in real time, displaying the processed data, storing raw data on magnetic tape, and post processing raw data. The data is received from two asynchronous laser Doppler velocimeters (LDV's) and includes position, velocity, and intensity information. The raw data is written onto magnetic tape for permanent storage and is also processed in real time to locate vortices and plot their positions as a function of time. The interactive capability enables the user to make real time adjustments in processing data and provides a better definition of vortex behavior. Displaying the vortex information in real time produces a feedback capability to the LDV system operator allowing adjustments to be made in the collection of raw data. Both raw data and processing can be continually upgraded during flyby testing to improve vortex behavior studies. The post-analysis capability permits the analyst to perform in-depth studies of test data and to modify vortex behavior models to improve transport predictions
A New Determination of the High Redshift Type Ia Supernova Rates with the Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys
We present a new measurement of the volumetric rate of Type Ia supernova up
to a redshift of 1.7, using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) GOODS data
combined with an additional HST dataset covering the North GOODS field
collected in 2004. We employ a novel technique that does not require
spectroscopic data for identifying Type Ia supernovae (although spectroscopic
measurements of redshifts are used for over half the sample); instead we employ
a Bayesian approach using only photometric data to calculate the probability
that an object is a Type Ia supernova. This Bayesian technique can easily be
modified to incorporate improved priors on supernova properties, and it is
well-suited for future high-statistics supernovae searches in which
spectroscopic follow up of all candidates will be impractical. Here, the method
is validated on both ground- and space-based supernova data having some
spectroscopic follow up. We combine our volumetric rate measurements with low
redshift supernova data, and fit to a number of possible models for the
evolution of the Type Ia supernova rate as a function of redshift. The data do
not distinguish between a flat rate at redshift > 0.5 and a previously proposed
model, in which the Type Ia rate peaks at redshift >1 due to a significant
delay from star-formation to the supernova explosion. Except for the highest
redshifts, where the signal to noise ratio is generally too low to apply this
technique, this approach yields smaller or comparable uncertainties than

A strengths-based case management service for people with serious mental illness in Israel: A randomized controlled trial
Case management services for people with serious mental illness are generally found to be effective, but controlled and randomized studies assessing such services are scarce. The aim of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of a new strengths-based case management (SBCM) service in Israel, using a randomized controlled approach. The sample consisted of 1276 individuals with serious mental illness, who consume psychiatric rehabilitation services (PRS) in the community, and were randomly assigned to receive or not to receive the SBCM service in addition to treatment-as-usual PRS. Quality of life, goal setting and attainment, unmet needs, self-efficacy, interpersonal relationships, symptom severity, and service utilization were assessed by clients at onset and after 20 months. Results show that SBCM participants improved in self-efficacy, unmet needs, and general quality of life, and set more goals than the control group. SBCM participants also consumed fewer services at follow-up. Results suggest that SBCM services are effective in helping individuals with serious mental illness set personal goals and use PRS in a better and more focused manner
Clustering of match running and performance indicators to assess between- and within-playing position similarity in professional rugby league
This study aimed to determine the similarity between and within positions in professional rugby league in terms of technical performance and match displacement. Here, the analyses were repeated on 3 different datasets which consisted of technical features only, displacement features only, and a combined dataset including both. Each dataset contained 7617 observations from the 2018 and 2019 Super League seasons, including 366 players from 11 teams. For each dataset, feature selection was initially used to rank features regarding their importance for predicting a player’s position for each match. Subsets of 12, 11, and 27 features were retained for technical, displacement, and combined datasets for subsequent analyses. Hierarchical cluster analyses were then carried out on the positional means to find logical groupings. For the technical dataset, 3 clusters were found: (1) props, loose forwards, second-row, hooker; (2) halves; (3) wings, centres, fullback. For displacement, 4 clusters were found: (1) second-rows, halves; (2) wings, centres; (3) fullback; (4) props, loose forward, hooker. For the combined dataset, 3 clusters were found: (1) halves, fullback; (2) wings and centres; (3) props, loose forward, hooker, second-rows. These positional clusters can be used to standardise positional groups in research investigating either technical, displacement, or both constructs within rugby league.</p
Resiliency and women exiting sex trade industry work
Summary: A qualitative approach was used to explore the experience of exiting sex trade industry work from the perspective of 19 adults formerly involved in the sex trade industry. A narrative approach to data collection was used explore the participants’ experiences of successful exiting and phenomenological analysis was employed to identify themes that reflected the ways in which participants developed resiliency throughout the exiting process.
Findings: Themes include: connection (including subthemes: survivor presence, children, and spirituality), resources (including subthemes: networks, structure and safety) and personal growth.
Significance: These themes represent women with diverse experiences in the sex trade industry, including a majority who were victimized by (internal) sex trafficking. The findings demonstrate opportunities for social work practice to address the diverse needs
of individuals exiting the sex trade industry, specifically for those who experienced sex
trafficking and sexual exploitation
