    Three-body structure of low-lying 12Be states

We investigate to what extent a description of 12Be as a three-body system made of an inert 10Be-core and two neutrons is able to reproduce the experimental 12Be data. Three-body wave functions are obtained with the hyperspherical adiabatic expansion method. We study the discrete spectrum of 12Be, the structure of the different states, the predominant transition strengths, and the continuum energy spectrum after high energy fragmentation on a light target. Two 0+, one 2+, one 1- and one 0- bound states are found where the first four are known experimentally whereas the 0- is predicted as an isomeric state. An effective neutron charge, reproducing the measured B(E1) transition and the charge rms radius in 11Be, leads to a computed B(E1) transition strength for 12Be in agreement with the experimental value. For the E0 and E2 transitions the contributions from core excitations could be more significant. The experimental 10Be-neutron continuum energy spectrum is also well reproduced except in the energy region corresponding to the 3/2- resonance in 11Be where core excitations contribute.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures. Sicilia. Informe general

    Get PDF

Linear basal cell carcinoma of the lower eyelid: Reconstruction with a musculocutaneous transposition flap

    Get PDF
Linear basal cell carcinoma (LBCC) is a rare morphologic variant of basal cell carcinoma. It is defined as a basal cell carcinoma that grows following a linear pattern, with a longitudinal diameter longer that its width. This entity was first reported by Lewis in 1985,1 and since then approximately 50 new cases have been described. LBCC characteristically spreads following relaxed skin tension lines, and the most frequent site is the lower eyelid. Currently, some controversy exists regarding the most appropriate surgical approach and reconstructive technique for LBCC. For this reason, we present 2 cases recently managed in our center

Probing the mechanical unzipping of DNA

A study of the micromechanical unzipping of DNA in the framework of the Peyrard-Bishop-Dauxois model is presented. We introduce a Monte Carlo technique that allows accurate determination of the dependence of the unzipping forces on unzipping speed and temperature. Our findings agree quantitatively with experimental results for homogeneous DNA, and for λ\lambda-phage DNA we reproduce the recently obtained experimental force-temperature phase diagram. Finally, we argue that there may be fundamental differences between {\em in vivo} and {\em in vitro} DNA unzipping

A Dynamic Risk Factors-Based Typology of Sexual Offenders

    Get PDF
The purpose of this article was to develop an Spanish psychometric typology of sexual offenders taking into account dynamic risk factors. The sample comprised 94 sex offenders imprisoned in Spain (52 rapists and 42 child molesters). The analysis yielded two different offender categories based on the subjects' criminogenic needs level (high and low). The results also showed that social desirability has a strong influence on the developed typologies, whereas the offence type, sociodemographic characteristics, and criminal history do not. A dynamic risk factors typology, such as the one proposed here, could help criminal and correctional facilities to fulfill their remit. It could also be useful for linking treatment intensity to offenders' criminogenic needs, as well as providing a platform for recidivism risk assessments

Self-pulsing dynamics of ultrasound in a magnetoacoustic resonator

A theoretical model of parametric magnetostrictive generator of ultrasound is considered, taking into account magnetic and magnetoacoustic nonlinearities. The stability and temporal dynamics of the system is analized with standard techniques revealing that, for a given set of parameters, the model presents a homoclinic or saddle--loop bifurcation, which predicts that the ultrasound is emitted in the form of pulses or spikes with arbitrarily low frequency.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
