    Vortex Lattice Melting in 2D Superconducting Networks and Films

    We carry out MC studies of 2D superconducting networks, in an applied magnetic field, for square and honeycomb geometries. We consider both dilute systems (f=1/q) and systems near full frustration (f=1/2-1/q). For the dilute case (which models a film as q->infinity), we find two transitions: at T_c(f)~1/q there is a depinning transition from a pinned to a floating vortex lattice; at T_m(f)~constant the floating vortex lattice melts into an isotropic liquid. We analyze this melting according to the Kosterlitz- Thouless theory of dislocation mediated melting, and find that the melting is weakly first order. For the case near full frustration, the system can be described in terms of the density of defects in an otherwise fully frustrated vortex pattern. We find pinned solid, floating solid, and liquid defect phases, as well as a higher sharp transition corresponding to the disordering of the fully frustrated background.Comment: 55 pages, RevTex3.0, 25 figures (available by mail by contacting [email protected]

    The state of HRM in the Middle East:Challenges and future research agenda

    Based on a robust structured literature analysis, this paper highlights the key developments in the field of human resource management (HRM) in the Middle East. Utilizing the institutional perspective, the analysis contributes to the literature on HRM in the Middle East by focusing on four key themes. First, it highlights the topical need to analyze the context-specific nature of HRM in the region. Second, via the adoption of a systematic review, it highlights state of development in HRM in the research analysis set-up. Third, the analysis also helps to reveal the challenges facing the HRM function in the Middle East. Fourth, it presents an agenda for future research in the form of research directions. While doing the above, it revisits the notions of “universalistic” and “best practice” HRM (convergence) versus “best-fit” or context distinctive (divergence) and also alternate models/diffusion of HRM (crossvergence) in the Middle Eastern context. The analysis, based on the framework of cross-national HRM comparisons, helps to make both theoretical and practical implications

    Evaluation of trace element contents of some herbal plants and spices retailed in Kayseri, Turkey

    The trace element contents of seven kinds of herbal plants and spice samples retailed in local markets in Kayseri-Turkey were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry after digestion with HNO3/H2O2 mixture. The concentration ranges for the studied elements were found as 6.0-15.2, 0-32.2, 80.0-324.8, 8.1-386.3, and 13.1-36.2 mu g/g for copper, nickel, iron, manganese, and zinc, respectively. The levels of cobalt, lead, and chromium ions in all the investigated samples were found to be below the detection limit of flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The results found in the present work were compared with values in the literature
