First-line drugs (Isoniazid and Rifampicin) for the treatment of tuberculosis are known to have experienced resistance to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The aim of this study was to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of maltodextrin encapsulated rosella calyx extract and its ability to provide a synergistic effect with Isoniazid (INH) and Rifampicin (RIF) on M. tuberculosis R37rv. Rosella calyxs were macerated using 50% ethanol and encapsulated using maltodextrin. Antibacterial activity was carried out by determining MIC value using Microscopic Observation and Direct Susceptibility (MODS) method. The synergistic effect was carried out by calculating the Fractional Inhibition Concentration Index (FICI). The results showed that this extract was able to inhibit M. tuberculosis H37rv with MIC of 10 mg/ ml. The FICI value of the combination of extract with INH and rifampicin was obtained 1.25. This showed that rosella calyx extract is not synergistic with INH and rifampicin, might be due to rosella calyx extract has an antibacterial effect with a different mechanism with INH and Rifampicin

Defining Service Learning in Nursing Education: an Integrative Review

Despite the wide use of service learning, there is lack of a standardised definition and measurable outcomes. Definitions of service learning found in the literature vary from the very broad to the highly specific. The aim of this review was to generate a functional definition of service learning and identify its components to constructively design and evaluate service-learning approaches in nursing education. An integrative review of scholarly literature was conducted to enable a concept analysis. A comprehensive database search using the search terms through a range of electronic databases, including CINAHL, MEDLINE, ERIC, Scopus, and the Web of Science from the earliest retrievable records of each database to June 23, 2015. The search terms used in this review were nursing students, nursing education, nursing school, community health nursing, community mental health nursing, health education, and service learning or community based education. A total of 42 studies were included in the review. A functional definition of service learning is proposed and four components of service learning were identified in this review, namely a structured form of intra-curricular experiential learning, reflection, reciprocity, and setting specific outcomes and benefits for stakeholders. The proposed conceptual model of service learning could contribute to consistent development, implementation, and evaluation of service learning in nursing education

Burns is one of the incidents that can lead to death (mortality). One of the natural products that have potential to serve as an alternative treatment of burns is orange peel. Orange peel has a chemical composition such as ascorbic acid, vitamin E, vitamin A, and polyphenols as antioxidants that inhibit free radicals responsible in the pathogenesis of both acute and chronic inflammatory. In this study, formulation was made in the form of biocellulose which is the primary metabolism product of bacteria. The purpose of this research was to obtain the concentration of the extract of orange peel on bioselullose that have the effect of decreasing the burn wound in rats. Orange peel was extracted then fortified into biocellulose with a concentration of 3%, 6%, and 9%. After that, the wound healing was tested on animals in the form of decreasing the wound diameter. The results showed that the concentration of extract of orange peel 3% on the fortification of biocellulose showed the good percentage of burn wound decreasing i.e. 45.52% with diameter average of 18.35 mm. This result indicates the concentration of extract of orange peel 3% is better than others
