The availability of tools capable of performing pre-feasibility studies of Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) projects in a fast, precise, and low cost way has become necessary for the acceptance of this technology by the industrial sector. The tools that have emerged so far are very heterogeneous, making it difficult to benchmark projects. The significant disparity in the toold limits the commercial development of the technology by generating uncertainty in project promoters and financial entities. This work presents a methodology to unify the efforts that are being carried out for the development of these simulation tools. The proposed methodology combines the use of open and proprietary source. In this way, open source development is maintained by universities and public / private centers, while private companies still keep any sensitive information private.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The development of learning science, students of the Bachelor of Secondary Education with a specialization in Chemistry, is performed using a good technique of project-based learning, the project presented as a proposal is the removal of organic compounds to practice this protein extraction by two methods was designed, which is a conventional isoelectric precipitation and other almost unknown as protein extraction method, which is to miscelización. Practical experimentation which was designed to try to establish as a must for the end of year high school science education, because it integrates several components that allow you to learn both chemical and physicochemical extraction processes, in addition to the measurement of pH makes you understand better to make curves based extraction processes, this is due to two methods for extraction differentiate sources of protein such as legumes and oil waste pastes are used. It was found that both processes relevant extraction are feasible for protein in high concentration, and both processes appear to be feasible to obtain not only concentrated, but protein isolates

Parametric Methodology to Optimize the Sizing of Solar Collector Fields in Series-Parallel Arrays

    No full text
The analysis of solar thermal systems through numerical simulation is of great importance, since it allows predicting the performance of many configurations in any location and under different climatic conditions. Most of the simulation tools are commercial and require different degrees of training; therefore, it is important to develop simple and reliable methodologies to obtain similar results. This study presents a parametric methodology to size stationary solar collector fields, with operating temperatures up to 150 °C. The costs of the collector loop piping and the pumping power of different series−parallel arrays is considered. The proposed tool was validated with experimental data and through simulations using commercial software. The tool allows establishing series−parallel arrays and calculates the volume of the storage tank according to the thermal load. The calculation is based on the system energy balance, where the mass flow and the heat losses in the interconnections of the collectors are taken into account. The number of collectors and the optimal series−parallel array were determined. The results show deviations lower than 7% in the relative error of the temperature profiles and in the solar fraction, with respect to the results obtained by dynamic simulations

Pre-Feasibility Assessment Tool for Solar Industrial Process Heating

    No full text
The industrial sector demands 25% of global energy as heat, where one-third is used at temperatures below 150 °C. Nevertheless, the installed solar heating capacity in the industry is only 0.02%, even though the integration of solar heating systems into production processes could significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption at a competitive cost. Among other reasons, this low penetration is due to the final users’ lack of knowledge of solar heating technologies. As a result, a free pre-feasibility assessment tool was developed for non-specialised users to evaluate the possibility of integrating solar heat into their processes using basic information. This tool uses transient simulation to estimate a feasible solar heating system through the parametric optimisation of the solar collection area, thermal storage volume, heat exchange capacity, and solar integration schemes at the supply level and costs. A commercial facility in Mexico was analysed using the developed tool as a case study. However, even when this is not a design tool, the calculated solar collector area, storage tank volume, and investment were only 2.1%, 9.0%, and 2.3% higher than reported by the solar designer. Pre-feasibility assessment tools are essential to overcome the certainty gap between end users and solar designers, thus enhancing the possibility of implementing solar heating systems in various commercial and industrial processes

Introduction: Microalbuminuria could be induced by strenuous exercise in young and adults. The effects of maximum and submaximal exercise on microalbuminuria in elderly (e»65 years) are not well known. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of different intensities of acute exercise on microalbuminuria. Methods: 20 healthy subjects, 13 men and 7 women (69 ± 4 years). They performed 3 exercise tests a week apart: MAXCAP-B, SUBMAX-B 80% and 60%. Urine samples were collected before, immediately after, one hour and 24 hours after exercise to determine microalbuminuria (20-200 mg/l). Results: microalbuminuria was observed immediately after in MAXCAP-B-B (19,0 mg/l, ± 10,7) and 1 hour post-exercise (18,6 ± 9,4 mg/l) (p 0.05). Conclusion: The High intensity of exercise favor the appearance of microalbuminuria in apparently healthy older adults, this response is moderate and transient. There was no persistent microalbuminuria at 24 hours following the practice of maximum and submaximal exercise. The maximum and submaximal exercise in apparently healthy older adults. This study supports that in performing submaximal exercise maximum (80% and 60%) on renal function in healthy elderly has no adverse impact. Studies should be conducted to measure renal responses to acute exercise in patients with chronic degenerative diseases.

t-BHQ Protects Against Oxidative Damage and Maintains the Antioxidant Response in Malnourished Rats

Objective: Tert-butylhydroquinone (t-BHQ) protective effect against oxidative damage in thymus from malnourished pops-rats was evaluated. Methods: Malnutrition in pops-rats was induced during the lactation period and first-, second-, and third-degree malnourished rats were studied (MN1, MN2, and MN3). To determine t-BHQ protective effect, lipid peroxidation (LPx) was assessed, as well as the carbonyl content. The reduced glutathione and glutathione disulfide content were determined and antioxidant enzyme activities were measured. Results: Oxidative protein damage, LPx, and Nuclear Factor-κB (NF-κB) content, increased in the MN2 and MN3 compared to well-nourished rats, associated with lower protein content and antioxidant activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and catalase. Tert-butylhydroquinone treatment induced a protective effect against lipids and proteins oxidative damage, as well as decrease in NF-κB in MN rats and restored the antioxidant mechanisms, mostly GPx and SOD. No differences were found between male and female animals. Conclusions: Results show that higher body weight deficit leads to increased oxidative damage and probably inflammation, attributable to alterations in antioxidant mechanisms. These effects were reversed by the t-BHQ-treatment, which restores the antioxidant response. Our findings suggest that t-BHQ could be an interesting pharmacological intervention, but it needs to be studied further
