We studied some biological aspects of ten fish species from the Taabo Lake in Ivory Coast (West Africa). These fishes were the most targeted by the artisanal fisheries with about 77% of the captures. Fish populations were sampled during five surveys. Fish size, sex ratio, length-weight relationships and condition factor were analyzed. Standard lengths indicated a wide range for the ten species and the highest sizes recorded in this study were lower than those observed in other aquatic systems of West Africa. Sex ratios differed between species and showed significant variation from the expected ratio of 1:1 for seven species. Males were more abundant in four species (Distichodus rostratus, Tilapia zillii, Pellonula leonensis and Schilbe mandibularis) whereas females predominated in three species (Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus, Synodontis schall and S. punctifer). The values of the parameter “b” in length-weight relationships ranged from 2.702 to 3.267 and the ten fish species presented an allometric growth. The condition factor showed a wide range for all the studied species.

Cette Ă©tude revĂȘt un intĂ©rĂȘt pour les pays africains, en particulier la CĂŽte d’Ivoire oĂč le savoir ancestral se perd au fil du temps avec l’abandon d’un certain nombre de valeurs culturelles.   order to contribute to the preservation of ancestral medical knowledge and the promotion of traditional medicine, one hundred and twenty tradipraticians of the department of Gagnoa were subjected to semantic interviews structured on the nomenclatural processes of medicinal plants used in the treatment of gastroenterological disorders. Thus, fifty-one medicinal plants were inventoried and divided into 47 genera and 24 families of Angiosperms with a preponderance of Fabaceae and Lamiaceae, each comprising 13.73% of the species surveyed. These plants have names in local Ivorian languages. Forty-five species have native BĂ©tĂ© names representing 88.24% of the species surveyed. Only nine are referred to as names with meaning. Their meanings refer either to their environment, their usefulness or their appearance, or to animals. This study is of interest to African countries, in particular CĂŽte d'Ivoire, where traditional knowledge is lost over time with the abandonment of certain cultural value

Blow-up for Semidiscretizations of some Semilinear Parabolic Equations with a Convection Term

    Get PDF
This paper concerns the study of the numerical approximation for the following parabolic equations with a convection termwhere p > 1.We obtain some conditions under which the solution of the semidiscrete form of the above problem blows up in a finite time and estimate its semidiscrete blow-up time. We also prove that the semidiscrete blow-up time converges to the real one, when the mesh size goes to zero. Finally, we give some numerical experiments to illustrate ours analysis

Lability of IgE Levels Early in Life

We report a case of a very fast and intriguing decrease in IgE concentrations after exclusion from the diet of any CM lysate in an unusual clinical presentation of cow's milk allergy in an infant. Analysis of IgE kinetics after allergen elimination suggests rapid cessation of IgE biosynthesis and a short IgE half-life

EVALUATION DE LA TOXICITÉ AIGUË DE L’EXTRAIT AQUEUX DES FEUILLES DE THUNBERGIA ATACORENSIS, UNE ESPÈCE NOUVELLE

Thunbergia atacorensis is a new plant species, discovered in gallery forest of Atacora Province in Benin (West Africa). This beautiful shrub can be used as ornamental. Before introducing the plant in human environment, it will be necessary to know its toxicological parameters. This work was aimed to evaluate, in mice, the acute toxicity at different doses of the aqueous decoction of the plant leaves in order to prevent intoxication. The acute toxicity of leaves aqueous decoction from the plant was assessed after a process which consisted in giving orally, to mice, the crude decoction for increasing doses ranging from 900 to 4500 mg/kg of body weight (b.w.). The use of the plant extract, through oral route (or), at different doses, causes some clinical signs (agitations, poor appetite, motor difficulties and dyspnea). The results made it possible to obtain the dose at bordering on solubility which squares with the Letal Dose of 100% or LD100 (4500 mg/kg/b.w./or). The Tolerated Maximal Dose or TMD was evaluated at 900 mg/kg/b.w./or. The plant extract, administered orally, provided slight toxicity, with a LD50 of 1720.25 mg/kg/b.w./or. Thus, the experimentally found Letal Dose of 50% can justify the domestication of the plant as ornamental

This study which has been held on the Roxy market of Adjamé took place from November 2013 to October 2014. It is a transversal study with descriptive and analytical aim whose objective is to proceed to the description of the organization of the circuit of the informal sale of drugs in Abidjan. This article describes the socio-demographic characteristics of street drugs vendors before examining drug pricing methods. Documentary research, direct observation and interviews with vendors were the main techniques used to gatherg information. Our investigations show that the sale of drugs at Roxy is done at 95% by Ivorian women in majority and for the most part illiterate. Pricing is highly dependent on the place of supply of drugs: drugs with a marketing authorization are more expensive on the illicit market than drugs which do not have marketing authorization. In the category of drug products with a marketing authorization: syrups, out-of-stock drugs products in pharmacy and drug the delivery of which asks for time of wait of at least a day in pharmacy is more expensive on the illicit market
