    Odontoameloblastoma with extensive chondroid matrix deposition in a guinea pig

    Odontoameloblastomas (previously incorporated within ameloblastic odontomas) are matrix-producing odontogenic mixed tumors and are closely related in histologic appearance to the 2 other types of matrix-producing odontogenic mixed tumors: odontomas and ameloblastic fibro-odontomas. The presence or absence of intralesional, induced non-neoplastic tissue must be accounted for in the diagnosis. Herein we describe a naturally occurring odontoameloblastoma with extensive chondroid cementum deposition in a guinea pig (Cavia porcellus). Microscopically, the mass featured palisading neoplastic odontogenic epithelium closely apposed to ribbons and rings of a pink dental matrix (dentinoid), alongside extensive sheets and aggregates of chondroid cementum. The final diagnosis was an odontoameloblastoma given the abundance of odontogenic epithelium in association with dentinoid but a paucity of pulp ectomesenchyme. Chondroid cementum is an expected anatomical feature of cavies, and its presence within the odontoameloblastoma was interpreted as a response of the ectomesenchyme of the dental follicle to the described neoplasm. Our case illustrates the inductive capabilities of odontoameloblastomas while highlighting species-specific anatomy that has resulted in a histologic appearance unique to cavies and provides imaging and histologic data to aid diagnosis of these challenging lesions

    Screening of a HUVEC cDNA library with transplant-associated coronary artery disease sera identifies RPL7 as a candidate autoantigen associated with this disease.

    A HUVEC cDNA library was screened with sera from two patients who had developed transplant-associated coronary artery disease (TxCAD) following cardiac transplantation. A total of six positive clones were isolated from a primary screen of 40 000 genes. Subsequent DNA sequence analysis identified these to be lysyl tRNA synthetase, ribosomal protein L7, ribosomal protein L9, beta transducin and TANK. Another gene whose product could not be identified showed homology to a human cDNA clone (DKFZp566M063) derived from fetal kidney. Full-length constructs of selected genes were expressed as his-tag recombinant fusion proteins and used to screen a wider patient base by ELISA to determine prevalence and association with TxCAD. Of these ribosomal protein L7 showed the highest prevalence (55.6%) with TxCAD sera compared to 10% non-CAD

The research involved in this endeavor includes doctrine and policy review, interviews with various DoD comptrollers and a case study of exercise Cobra Gold 2002 budget execution and contractual payments at the joint organization level. Cobra Gold is an excellent example of a large-scale joint and combined operation in a foreign country; it provides a great opportunity to analyze the research question. This professional report concludes that field comptrollers cannot adequately meet fiscal responsibilities without comparable garrison IT connectivity and recommends that all of the U.S. services procure systems that are fully interoperable to best support the warfighter.     Suprathermal plasma observed on STS-3 Mission by plasma diagnostics package

    Artificially produced electron beams were used extensively during the past decade as a means of probing the magnetosphere, and more recently as a means of actively controlling spacecraft potential. Experimentation in these areas has proven valuable, yet at times confusing, due to the interaction of the electron beam with the ambient plasma. The OSS-1/STS-3 Mission in March 1982 provided a unique opportunity to study beam-plasma interactions at an altitude of 240 km. On board for this mission was a Fast Pulse Electron Generator (FPEG). Measurements made by the Plasma Diagnostics Package (PDP) while extended on the Orbiter RMS show modifications of the ion and electron energy distributions during electron beam injection. Observations made by charged particle detectors are discussed and related to measurements of Orbiter potential. Several of the PDP instruments, the joint PDP/FPEG experiment, and observations made during electron beam injection are described

    Towards an understanding of the contribution of global learning to the wellbeing and mental health of young people with special educational needs

    The aim of this study was to explore the possible impact of global learning interventions on students’ mental health and wellbeing. The study employed a mixed methods design, which consisted of student (N11) and teacher (N4) interviews, as well as a mental health and wellbeing questionnaire. The participants of this study all attended an autistic specific secondary school that served as a Global Learning Programme Expert Centre. The findings of the study indicated that students who participated in lessons that had a global learning focus, experienced a small but significant improvement in mental health and wellbeing. This small-scale study may lead to more extensive research in the area

    The Nature of the Compact/Symmetric Near-IR Continuum Source in 4C 40.36

    Using NICMOS on HST, we have imaged the emission-line nebulae and the line-free continuum in 4C 40.36, a ultra-steep spectrum FR II radio galaxy at z=2.269. The line-free continuum was found to be extremely compact and symmetric while the emission-line nebulae seen in H-alpha+[N II] show very clumpy structures spreading almost linearly over 16 kpc. However, this linear structure is clearly misaligned from the radio axis. The SED of the line-free continuum is very flat, suggesting that if the continuum emission is produced by a single source, it is likely to be a young bursting stellar population or scattered AGN light. However, because of the lack of a line-free optical image with a comparable spatial resolution, we cannot exclude the possibility that the observed SED is a composite of a young blue population and an old red population.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures; to appear in the proceedings of "The Hy-Redshift Universe: Galaxy Formation and Evolution at High Redshift", eds.     Two hundred soybean plant introductions and cultivars in each of maturity groups III, IV, and V were evaluated during the 1983 planting season. Data collection consisted of days from emergence to maturity, final plant height, and oven-dried weights of stems and pod walls and seeds from four plants removed from each plot. Seed yield was determined by clipping off the end 30 cm of each plot and harvesting the remaining 1 m of the three rows. This report is limited to data on seed yield efficiency (SYE) values only

    Disclosure of Maternal HIV Status to Children: To Tell or Not To Tell . . . That Is the Question

    HIV-infected mothers face the challenging decision of whether to disclose their serostatus to their children. From the perspective of both mother and child, we explored the process of disclosure, providing descriptive information and examining the relationships among disclosure, demographic variables, and child adjustment. Participants were 23 mothers and one of their noninfected children (9 to 16 years of age). Sixty-one percent of mothers disclosed. Consistent with previous research, disclosure was not related to child functioning. However, children sworn to secrecy demonstrated lower social competence and more externalizing problems. Differential disclosure, which occurred in one-third of the families, was associated with higher levels of depressive and anxiety symptoms. Finally, knowing more than mothers had themselves disclosed was related to child maladjustment across multiple domains. Clinical implications and the need for future research are considered
