Ultrafast all-optical Nth-order differentiator and simultaneous repetition-rate multiplier of periodic pulse train

    Get PDF
The letter presents a technique for Nth-order differentiation of periodic pulse train, which can simultaneously multiply the input repetition rate. This approach uses a single linearly chirped apodized fiber Bragg grating, which grating profile is designed to map the spectral response of the Nth-order differentiator, and the chirp introduces a dispersion that, besides space-to-frequency mapping, it also causes a temporal Talbot effect

Repetition rate multiplication by phase-only filtering with multi-cavity optical structures

We propose several all-pass spectrally-periodic optical structures composed of simple optical cavities for the implementation of repetition rate multipliers of periodic pulse train with uniform output train envelope by phase-only filtering, and analyze them in terms of robustness and accuracy

Simultaneous ultrafast optical pulse train bursts generation and shaping based on Fourier series developments using superimposed fiber Bragg gratings

    Get PDF
We propose an all-fiber method for the generation of ultrafast shaped pulse train bursts from a single pulse based on Fourier Series Developments (FDSs). The implementation of the FSD based filter only requires the use of a very simple non apodized Superimposed Fiber Bragg Grating (S-FBG) for the generation of the Shaped Output Pulse Train Burst (SOPTB). In this approach, the shape, the period and the temporal length of the generated SOPTB have no dependency on the input pulse rate

Analysis of double-parallel amplified recirculating optical-delay lines

    Get PDF
A novel method of analysis of double-parallel amplified recirculating optical-delay lines (DPAROD) is presented. The location of the maxima and the minima of the transfer function for this configuration is calculated and experimentally demonstrated. The influence of different parameters, such as the coupling coefficients, gains, lengths of the fiber loops and fractional losses of the directional couplers, on the shape of the transfer function are analyzed. Different measurements have been taken to verify this model. The potential application of these interconnected delay loops as filters is a reason for developing this method.Publicad

Ultrafast all-optical Nth-order differentiator based on chirped fiber Bragg gratings

    Get PDF
In this letter we present a technique for the implementation of Nth-order ultrafast temporal differentiators. This technique is based on two oppositely chirped fiber Bragg gratings in which the grating profile maps the spectral response of the Nth-order differentiator. Examples of 1st, 2nd, and 4th order differentiators are designed and numerically simulated

    Amplified Fiber-Optic Recirculating Delay Lines

    Get PDF
Experimental and theoretical results on single- and double-amplified recirculating delay lines are presented. One of our aims is to emphasize their application as filters, showing a wide flexibility of design. Analysis of their performance in the spectral and time domains have been carried out. A novel method of understanding the behavior of double structures has been developed and successfully tested with experimental results employing Er-doped fiber amplifiers as delay lines.Publicad

Proposed flat-topped pulses bursts generation using all-pass multi-cavity structures

    Get PDF
We propose a simple lossless method for the generation of flat-topped intensity pulses bursts from a single utrashort pulse. We have found optimum solutions corresponding to different numbers of cavities and burst pulses, showing that the proposed all-pass structures of optical cavities, properly designed, can generate close to flat-topped pulse busts

We propose and analyze several simple all-pass spectrally-periodic optical structures, in terms of accuracy and robustness, for the implementation of repetition rate multipliers of periodic pulse train with uniform output train envelope, finding optimum solutions for multiplication factors of 3, 4, 6, and 12
