    Objectives: The aim of the study is to determine the risk factors for recurrent ischemic stroke. Patients and Methods: We compared the risk factors in 186 recurrent ischemic stroke patients (94 males, 92 females; mean age 66.85±11.21 years; range 20-95 years) with 300 first-ever stroke patients (control group) among 1150 ischemic stroke patients who had been treated in Neurology Department of Trakya University Medical Faculty over a period of three years. Results: The recurrence rate was 16.1%. Within the recurrent patients, 89.7% had hypertension, 32.3% had atrial fibrillation, 24.4% had diabetes mellitus, 15.6% had transient ischemic attack, and 57.5% had several types of heart diseases. The most frequent recurrence etiology was embolic according to TOAST criteria (35.5%). Transient ischemic attack (OR= 2.98; 95% CI 1.54-5.76), hypertension (OR= 1.96; 95% CI 1.11-2.64) and atrial fibrillation (OR= 1.74; 95% CI 1.44-2.66) were found as the independent risk factors. The mean of the modified Rankin scores of the study group at their last charge were significantly higher than that of the control group. Conclusion: Our findings emphasize the importance of the consistent anticoagulation therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation and close blood pressure control in patients with hypertension.Amaç: Bu çalışmada reküren iskemik inmede risk faktörleri belirlendi. Hastalar ve Yöntemler: Üç yıllık dönemde Trakya Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi Nöroloji Kliniği’ne başvuran toplam 1150 hasta içinden reküren inme geçiren 186 hasta (94 erkek, 92 kadın; ort. yaş 66.85±11.21; dağılım 20-95) ilk iskemik inmesini geçiren 300 hasta ile risk faktörleri açısından karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Reküren inme oranı %16.1 idi. Reküren inme grubunda hastaların %89.7’sinde hipertansiyon, %32.3’ünde atrial fibrilasyon, %24.4’ünde diabetes mellitus, %15.6’sında geçici iskemik atak ve %57.5’inde değişik kalp hastalıklarının olduğu gözlendi. Reküren inmenin en sık görülen etyolojik nedeni TOAST sınıflamasına göre kardiyoembolizmdi (%35.5). Geçici iskemik atak (OR= 2.98; %95 CI 1.54-5.76), hipertansiyon (OR= 1.96; %95 CI 1.11-2.64) ve atrial fibrilasyon (OR= 1.74; %95 CI 1.44-2.66) reküren inme için bağımsız risk faktörü olarak bulundu. Hasta grubu ile kontrol grubu modifiye Rankin skoru için karşılaştırıldığında hasta grubunda bu skorun daha kötü olduğu izlendi. Sonuç: Bizim bulgularımız hipertansif hastalarda kan basıncı kontrolünün, atriyal fibrilasyonlu hastalarda ise etkin antikoagülasyonun reküren inmeyi önlemede önemli olduğunu göstermiştir

    360-degree feedback : the influence of perceptions of organizational culture on upward appraisal system attitudes

Moreover, human resources have become a global competition element for organizations in their institutional environments. For that reason, organizations have to manage their human resources in a better way to motivate their employees and to drive their energy into organizational achievement. It is also necessary and critical to evaluate properly the performance of employees for various human resource practices such as promoting, compensating, etc. In other words since organizational achievement can be considered as a synergic sum of individual efforts, performance appraisal for improvement purpose is crucial for such an organisation. Ie army organization. The way that an organization measures and evaluates individual employee performance will directly effect organizational achievement. Therefore, evaluation results should reflect the factual evidences about the performance of organizations at the unitary level. To produce iii objective appraisal results, it is necessary to combine evaluations of all stakeholders involved in the process. It is also important to have positive perception of organization wide on the appraisal methods. This study discusses 360-degree feedback and upward appraisal systems that provide supervisors the opportunity to increase their self-awareness. This will also help them to improve their leadership conducts by having feedback from various sources. The system will also increase individual commitment of subordinates by giving them chance to express their opinions about supervisors, and thus, to participate more in the decision making process which is likely to create a higher level of motivation. However if organizations try to implement 360-degree feedback or upward appraisal system without studying the organizational culture, their effort may be futile. This thesis aims at identifying attitudes toward 360-degrees feedback and upward appraisal systems. Küreselleşme, teknoloji, değişim ve bilgi toplumu kavramlarının etkisiyle örgütsel yapıların değişmesi, bireylerin eğitim ve beklentilerindeki gelişmeler kariyerin anlamını da değiştirmektedir. Bilgi çağında, yaşam boyu iş olanaklarının, fonksiyonel unvanların ve gelir açısından sürekli yükselmenin yerini, yaşam boyu öğrenme, kendi kendini sürekli geliştirme ve sürekli istihdam edilebilir kalmaya gereksinim duyma almıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı turizm sektöründe çalışan bireylerin mesleki kişilik özelliklerini mesleğin gerektirdiği kişilik özelikleri ile karşılaştırarak olası uyum veya uyumsuzluğun kariyer hedefleri üzerinde ne gibi etkileri olduğunu incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaçla İstanbul bölgesinde bulunan otellerde, Holland Mesleki kişilik envanteri ile Duman'ın geliştirdiği kariyer isteği ölçeği kullanılarak hazırlanmış anket yardımı ile kişilik özellikleri ile kariyer yapma isteği arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Evreni belirlemek için İstanbul bölgesi otellerinde bulunan yatak sayısı 2008 turizm ve işletme belgeli tesis istatistikleri ve 2006 belediye belgeli tesis istatistiklerinden faydalanarak oluşturulmaya çalışılmıştır. Yatak sayısı İstanbul'da 118500 çıkmıştır. Otellerde yatak başına düşen personel sayısı 0,50'dir. Buna göre evren 59250 personel olarak bulunmuş ve Altunışık ve Diğerleri tarafından oluşturulan tabloya göre en az 382 anket uygulanması gerektiği saptanmıştır.Nowadays, the ongoing developments in science and technology, alteration of social and politics arena and competition, bring about significant changes in social and economic enviroments besides those changes in the organizational structures. The effects of globalization, technology, variation, knowledge of society and the changing in the organizational structures, developments in the personal education and preferences have changed the understanding of career. In the era of information, life-time job oppurtunities, functional titles and continuous improvement in terms of high wages have left its place to life-time education, continuous self-improvement and the need for ensuring full-time employment. The aim of this study is demonstrate effects congruency of vocational personality traits and personality traits that required tourism industry to career aspiration. For this purpose, survey was achieved, in order to demonstrate whether there exists any relationship between vocational personality traits and career aspiration by the help of a questionary has been generated with Holland?s Vocational Preference Inventory and Career Aspiration scale developed by Duman at hotels situated in Istanbul. In order to reach research universe, number of beds tried to found according to Tourism Investment Licenced and Tourism Operation Licenced establisments statistics 2008 and Municipality Licenced Establishments 2006 statistics in Istanbul. It is found 118.500 beds existing in Istanbul. Number of personel rate per bed is 0.50. With reference to universe is found as 59.250 personel and it is decided that attain 382 personel for survey according to table hat was generate by Altunışık and Others

    Job Satisfaction, Anxiety Level and Associated Factors in a Group of Residents in a University Hospital

    In present study, we aimed to research the job satisfaction among the residents at Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital, some factors affecting this and some psychological effects of not being pleased with their jobs. With respect to this aim, socio demographic data form, Minnesota Job Satisfaction, Beck Anxiety Inventory, State Trait Anger Scale were given to 140 residents at University who accepted to join this study and were collected the following day. In study, 35 percent of the participants having joined the study weren’t pleased with their works. The number of satisfied residents was higher among the willingly choice making residents in favour of their Works(34.8%) than the participants who were unwilling to choice the department (65.2%) they are working now (x2:11.046, p<0.01). Beck anxiety results were found to be much higher in the residents who were not pleased with their workers than the workers pleased with their works. Finally, there are some factors determining the job satisfaction. There is relationship between job satisfaction and mental health. Because this can give rise to negative effects on the performance of the work, it is required that some solution ways be found in order to increase the work contention

    Determination of sediment respiration ratios of Çoruh River, Melet River and Harşit Stream

    Bu çalışmada, Artvin ili Borçka ilçe merkezinden Gürcistan’a geçip Batum şehrinden Karadeniz’e dökülen Çoruh Nehri, Ordu il merkezinden Karadeniz’e dökülen Melet Irmağı ve Giresun ili Tirebolu ilçe merkezinden Karadeniz’e dökülen Harşit Çayı’nda sediment solunum oranlarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Sediment solunumu su ortamındaki organik materyal ve kirletici unsurların taban çamuruna çökelmesiyle oluşan sedimantasyona bağlı olarak artacağından iyi bir kirlilik göstergesidir. Çalışmada örneklemeye Şubat 2015 tarihinde başlanmış ve saha çalışması aynı mevsim içerisinde tamamlanmıştır. Bu çalışma anılan su kaynaklarının sediment solunumun kapasitelerini değerlendirmek ve karşılaştırmak amacıyla planlanmış olup, sediment solunum çemberlerinin kullanıldığı laboratuvar çalışmalarıyla değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma için Çoruh Nehri, Melet Irmağı ve Harşit Çayı’ndan belirlenen noktalardan üst 5 cm’lik sediment tabakası örneklenmiştir. Alınan her sediment segmentindeki mikrobiyal ayrışma bir solunum çemberi içinde 25°C’de, karanlıkta kuluçka edilmiş ve 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 36. günlerdeki sediment solunumu ölçülmüştür. Ortalama sediment solunum değerleri (mg CO2/g) Çoruh Nehri’nde 2.54, Melet Irmağı’nda 2.48 ve Harşit Çayı’nda ise 1.97 şeklinde bulunmuştur. Sediment solunum değerleri ile birlikte sediment örneklerinden pH ve organik madde miktarı tespit edilerek istatistiki analizleri yapılmıştır. Ölçümler sonucu ortalama sediment pH değerleri Çoruh Nehri’nde 8.59; Melet Irmağı’nda 8.39 ve Harşit Çayı’nda 8.00 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Nehir sedimentlerinde ölçülen ortalama organik madde miktarları (%) sırasıyla Çoruh Nehri’nde 4.05, Melet Irmağı’nda 6.67 ve Harşit Çayı’nda 4.51 olarak tespit edilmiştirIn this study, the sediment respiration ratios were aimed to determine in the Coruh River flowing from the city of Artvin to Georgia and flowing into the Black Sea from Batumi, Melet River flowing into the Black Sea from the city center of Ordu and the Harşit Stream flowing into the Black Sea from Giresun province Tirebolu district center. "Sediment respiration" is a good indicator of pollution which was increased due to sedimentation caused by organic substances in the water environment and precipitation of contaminant elements in the mud floor. Sampling in the study started in February 2015 and the field study was completed in the same season. The study is planned to evaluate the respiration capacities of sediment and compare the mentioned water resources, and it was evaluated by laboratory studies using soil respiration circle. For the study, the samples from the top 5 cm of sediment layers were collected from Coruh River; Melet River and Harsit Stream. The microbial decomposition was monitored in each sediment segment by the respiratory circle incubated in the dark at 25 ° C and sediment respiration was measured in 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 36. days. The mean sediment respiration values (mg CO2/g) were found as; 2.54 in Coruh River, 2.48 in Melet River and 1.97 in Harşit Stream. Together with sediment respiration values, the pH and amount of organic matter from sediment samples were determined and their statistical analysis was performed. As an average result of the measurements, the pH values of the sediment were 8.59 in the Coruh River, 8.39 in the Melet River and 8.00 in the Harşit Stream. The amount of organic matter (%) measured in the river sediments were found as 4.05, in Coruh River, 6.67 in Melet River; and 4.51 in Harşit Stream, respectively

    Sequence variants of CYP345a1 and CYP6a14 gene regions in tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) adults treated with the novel characterized bolanthus turcicus (Caryophyllaceae) extract

    In this study, various doses of plant extracts that obtained from Bolanthus turcicus was applied to an important storage pest Tribolium castaneum adults. Bolanthus turcicus is an endemic species and spreads on the Hasan Mountain above Karkin town (Turkey, Aksaray province). The plant species was collected from June to July with the field study to be carried out in this region. Obtained extract of plant was analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. The doses were defined during the study and the concentrations that kill 50% and 99% of the population were determined after applications. After 24 h, DNA was isolated from live and dead individuals that obtained from LC50 and LC99 concentration applications and analyzed for Cytochrome P450-mediated detoxification resistance genes, CYP345A1 and CYP6A14 gene regions, by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). CYP genes in insects are known to be rapidly regulated when exposed to insecticides. In the study, in order to screen for 206 bp and 353 bp fragments of CYP345A1 and CYP6A14 genes in T. castaneum adults were amplified using specific primers, respectively. DNA direct sequencing was performed on each template using the forward primer. When compared to the control, it is believed that mutation differences in live and dead individuals according to the sequencing results obtained from survival and dead adults, may allow these genes to play a protective role against the toxic effect of B. turcicus extract. © Shiraz University
