There is an increasing demand for computing systems composed by heterogeneous computers, connected by different types of networks, and that allow for accessing a wide range of services in a seamless way. Some of those computers are mobile or embedded and have limited resources, and can be overloaded when trying to handle their users demands. Then it is not possible to ensure a proper behaviour of the running applications. This can be an important problem when dealing with critical events in healthcare, home surveillance, or forest monitoring. Resource reservation is a valid basis for handling this issue. It allows for guaranteeing a certain resource share for applications that are important for the proper behavior of a given system. This paper describes an implementation of a resource management component and its integration in the Linux kernel. This piece of software has allowed to assign CPU budgets to standard Java threads, which is an important facility, given the widespread of this programming language. This implementation has been validated on service oriented middleware, where relevant services are executed by thread with guaranteed budget, to improve its predictability

The authors would like to acknowledge the support given by the Institute of Water Research of University of Granada and the disposition of Municipal Water Company of Granada (EMASAGRA S.A.) for financial support to carry out the research. In wastewater treatment plants, most microbial characterization has focused on bacterial, archaeal, and fungal populations. Due to the difficult isolation, quantification, and identification of viruses, only a limited number of virome studies associated with wastewater treatment plants have been carried out. However, the virus populations play an important role in the microbial dynamics in wastewater treatment systems and the biosafety of effluents. In this work, the viral members present in influent wastewater, mixed liquor (aerobic bioreactor), excess sludge, and effluent water of a conventional activated sludge system for the treatment of urban wastewater were identified. Viral members were observed by transmission electron microscopy and studied through next-generation sequencing studies. The results showed the dominance of bacteriophages in the viral community in all samples, with the dominant viral phylotype classified as Escherichia coli O157 typing phage 7. Moreover, different human viruses, such as Cynomolgus cytomegalovirus and Gammaherpesvirus, were also detected.Institute of Water Research of University of Granad

Context: The use of microgrids in non-interconnected areas has become the only alternative that people living in these regions have to access the electricity service. Because of this it is necessary to optimize the use of these systems and if it is possible to expand existing ones to increase coverage and, in that way, support the implementation of the sustainable development goal 7 set by United Nations:  Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Methodology: In this paper, we present two cases of expansion for a microgrid based on a photovoltaic generation system that is located in a non-interconnected area of Colombia. The analysis of the electrical generation of the system is carried out using Matlab/Simulink and the small signal analysis to evaluate the stability is executed in Neplan. Based on the above, it is possible to establish a methodology that allows to define the expandability of a microgrid. Results: From the small signal stability analysis performed in Neplan, the system's own values are obtained, both from the current microgrid and from the two cases of expansion, this in order to guarantee the property of stability in the micro grid in three different scenarios; non-linear loads, increased power demanded and generated. Conclusions: In photovoltaic systems located in non-interconnected areas and operating in island mode the inverters influence frequency stability considerably, because the reduced inertia in these systems leads to a faster frequency variation. This is why the analysis of small signal stability is the method indicated to study the behavior of microgrids before variations in demand and generated power, particularly in systems that operate in areas not interconnected, because with small disturbances it is possible to identify the changes in the dynamics of the system.

ABSTARCT: Three new triterpene glycosides, named ulososide F (1), urabosides A (2) and B (3), together with the previously reported ulososide A (4), were isolated from the Caribbean marine sponge Ectyoplasia ferox. Their structures were elucidated using extensive interpretation of 1D and 2D-NMR data, as well as HRESIMS. The aglycon of all compounds is a rare 30-norlonastane and the sugar residues were identified after acid hydrolysis and GC analyses. Cytotoxicities of the isolated compounds were evaluated against Jurkat and CHO cell lines by a MTT in vitro assay as well as a hemolysis assay. Unexpectedly, all these saponin derivatives showed very low activity in our bioassays
