An operational support approach for Mining Unstructured Business Processes

    Get PDF
The refined process mining framework contains a set of activities that use extracted information from event logs, discovered models and normative ones. Among these activities, we find those dealing with running events in a Structured Business Process (SBP) context, which are the Detect, the Predict and the Recommend activities. These three activities are nominated as an operational support system that aims at detecting deviations, predicting events and recommending actions. In this regard, operational support systems perform well on SBP while, it stills a challenging task for an Unstructured Business Process (UBP). This puts forward the difficulty of predicting events and recommending actions for UBP, because of its complex structure. In this context, simplification and structuring operations must be applied. Therefore, the intervention of other process mining activities is required for business process simplification and structuring. To this end, we present an operational support approach dealing with UBP, using the refined process mining framework activities

Abstract The smart city vision was born by the integration of ICT in the day to day city management operations and citizens lives, owing to the need for novel and smart ways to manage the cities resources; making them more efficient, sustainable and transparent. However, the understanding of the crucial elements to this integration and how they can benefit from each other proves difficult and unclear. In this article, we investigate the intricate synergies between different technologies and paradigms involved in the smart city vision, to help design a robust framework, capable of handling the challenges impeding its successful implementation. To this end, we propose a context-aware centered approach to present a holistic view of a smart city as viewed from the different angles (Cloud, IoT, Big Data). We also propose a framework encompassing elements from the different enablers, leveraging their strengths to build and develop smart-x applications and services

Geographical queries reformulation using a parallel association rules generator to build spatial taxonomies

    Get PDF
Geographical queries need a special process of reformulation by information retrieval systems (IRS) due to their specificities and hierarchical structure. This fact is ignored by most of web search engines. In this paper, we propose an automatic approach for building a spatial taxonomy, that models’ the notion of adjacency that will be used in the reformulation of the spatial part of a geographical query. This approach exploits the documents that are in top of the retrieved list when submitting a spatial entity, which is composed of a spatial relation and a noun of a city. Then, a transactional database is constructed, considering each document extracted as a transaction that contains the nouns of the cities sharing the country of the submitted query’s city. The algorithm frequent pattern growth (FP-growth) is applied to this database in his parallel version (parallel FP-growth: PFP) in order to generate association rules, that will form the country’s taxonomy in a Big Data context. Experiments has been conducted on Spark and their results show that query reformulation using the taxonomy constructed based on our proposed approach improves the precision and the effectiveness of the IRS

    Electronic properties of strained heterostructures

We present a theoretical study of the electronic properties of heterostructures composed of strained layers sandwiched between two identical semiconductors. The electronic structure is calculated by using the theory of interface response functions within the frame of a two band model which provides a reasonable description of the bulk electronic structure of the host materials. This theory is then applied to the heterostructures AlSb/GaSb/AlSb, InAs/GaSb/InAs and GaSb/InAs/GaSb. In our model, the strains are due to weakly-lattice mismatched materials. The evolution of the electronic structure is examined in function of the interfacial strains and of the sandwiched layer thickness.

Inspired from Ants Colony: Smart Routing Algorithm of Wireless Sensor Network

In brief, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are a set of limited power nodes, used for gathering the determined data of an area. Increasing the lifetime is the main challenge to optimize WSNs routing protocols, since the sensors’ energy in most cases is limited. In this respect, this article introduces a novel smart routing algorithm of wireless sensor networks, consisting of stable nodes randomly dispersed, and this approach is inspired from ant colonies. The proposed algorithm takes into consideration the distance between two nodes, the chosen path length and the nodes’ residual energy so as to update the choice probability of the next node among the neighbouring nodes, contrary to several routing algorithms; on the one hand, the nodes are aggregating data of their predecessors and sending to all to their successors; on the other hand, the source is almost always changed in each iteration. Consequently, the energy consumption is balanced between the nodes. Hence, the network lifetime will be increased. Detailed descriptions and a set of simulation using Matlab is provided to measure the network lifetime and the energy consumed by nodes of the proposed approach are presented. The replications’ consequences of simulations prove the success of our future routing algorithm (SRA)

Efficient and secure routing protocol based on Blockchain approach for wireless sensor networks

Embedded systems and wireless sensor networks (WSN) are found today in increasingly critical areas of applications. They have become integrated and embedded in nearly all aspects of everyday life, including manufacturing, healthcare, education, critical infrastructure, and entertainment. The number of connected devices continues to grow, and due to the insecure nature of these devices, the amount of risk continues to grow as well. These risks, however, can be mitigated with the creation and adoption of WSN security standards developed to create an environment of safety, security, and confidence in the technology. Designing the security policy for WSNs requires asking some preliminary questions. These questions are particularly important in the case of WSNs because their use is highly decentralized. Blockchain's ability on governing decentralized networks makes it especially suitable for designing a self‐managing system on WSN devices. This article proposes a routing protocol that uses Blockchain technology to offer a shared memory between the network's nodes. The simulation results have shown that this solution could be applicable and could resolve the issues cited above
