    In the contemporary art, the conservation of the original matter is not as important as the conservation of the authenticity of the work, because of this it is very important to know the artist and his work, to be able to conserve the most important values. In this process it is very important the documentation and the research. Therefore the criteria of restoration has changed, we can not conserve the patina of the contemporary art as a historic document, if this means the loss of the aesthetic value of the work. Nowadays the art is different, and therefore its conservation is different too

    The evaluation of a highly specialist inpatient psychologist working with patients with high risk presentations in an acute mental health inpatient setting

    Objective: To evaluate the function and impact of a highly specialist psychologist working with high risk patients in an acute mental health inpatient setting. The impact was examined on outcomes such as risk related incidents, re-admission, average length of stay, and use of restrictive practice. / Method: A mixed methods service evaluation of a pilot project was undertaken to examine the impact of the specialist psychologist role on these outcomes over a 17-month period. Demographic and clinical data was collected for 18 patients who were seen by the psychologist. Routinely collected clinical data examining risk incidents, re-admission rates, average length of stay, and use of restrictive practice, were also used to evaluate outcome across the evaluation period (at baseline and six-month follow-up). / Results: The specialist psychologist provided input to patients’ care and undertook a variety of direct and indirect work and training. Examination of descriptive routine clinical data indicated a slight reduction in risk related incidents, readmissions, and average length of stay after the introduction of the psychologist role, however these were not statistically significant. / Conclusion: These initial findings suggest the potential for outcome improvement, but further, more robust research is required to see if such a role can have a significant impact on outcomes

    Short-term colonic in vitro batch incubations were performed to elucidate the possible synergistic effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (CNCM-I-4798) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii (CNCM-1-1079) (associated in Smebiocta/Smectaflora Protect (R)) on the colonic microbial fermentation process, as well as their antipathogenic activity against enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (LMG2092) (ETEC). These incubations adequately simulate the native microbiota and environmental conditions of the proximal colon of both adult and toddler donors, including the colonic mucosal layer. Results indicated that both strains were capable of growing together without showing antagonistic effects. Co-cultivation of both strains resulted in increased butyrate (stimulated by L. rhamnosus GG), propionate (stimulated by S. boulardii), and ethanol (produced by S. boulardii) production compared to the control incubations, revealing the additive effect of both strains. After inoculation of ETEC under simulated dysbiotic conditions, a 40 and 46% reduction in the concentration of ETEC was observed upon addition of both strains during the experiments with the adult and toddler donor, respectively. Furthermore, ETEC toxin levels decreased upon S. boulardii inoculation, probably due to proteolytic activity of this strain, with a synergistic effect being observed upon co-cultivation of L. rhamnosus GG and S. boulardii resulting in a reduction of 57 and 46% for the adult and toddler donor, respectively. Altogether, the results suggest that both probiotics together may help microbiota functionality, in both adults and toddlers and under healthy or impaired conditions, which could be of great interest when the colonic microbiota is dysbiotic and therefore sensitive to pathogenic invasion such as during antibiotic treatment

    A novel Island Model based on Coral Reefs Optimization algorithm for solving the unequal area facility layout problem

    This paper proposes a novel approach to address the Unequal Area Facility Layout Problem (UA-FLP), based on the combination of both an Island Model and a Coral Reefs Optimization (CRO) algorithm. Two different versions of this Island Model based on Coral Reefs Optimization Algorithm (IMCRO) are proposed and applied to the UA-FLP. The structure of flexible bays has been selected as effective encoding to represent the facility layouts within the algorithm. The two versions of the proposed approach have been tested in 22 UA-FLP cases, considering small, medium and large size categories. The empirical results obtained are compared with previous state of the art algorithms, in order to show the performance of the IMCRO. From this comparison, it can be extracted that both versions of the proposed IMCRO algorithm show an excellent performance, accurately solving the UA-FLP instances in all the size categories

    Mitochondrial DNA control region typing from highly degraded skeletal remains by single-multiplex next-generation sequencing

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) typing, and especially of the control region (CR), using next-generation sequencing (NGS), enables retrieval of valuable genetic information in forensic contexts where highly degraded human skeletal remains are the only source of genetic material. Currently, NGS commercial kits can type all mtDNA-CR in fewer steps than the conventional Sanger technique. The PowerSeq CRM Nested System kit (Promega Corporation) employs a nested multiplex-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) strategy to amplify and index all mtDNA-CR in a single reaction. Our study analyzes the success of mtDNA-CR typing of highly degraded human skeletons using the PowerSeq CRM Nested System kit. We used samples from 41 individuals from different time periods to test three protocols (M1, M2, and M3) based on modifications of PCR conditions. To analyze the detected variants, two bioinformatic procedures were compared: an in-house pipeline and the GeneMarker HTS software. The results showed that many samples were not analyzed when the standard protocol (M1) was used. In contrast, the M3 protocol, which includes 35 PCR cycles and longer denaturation and extension steps, successfully recovered the mtDNA-CR from highly degraded skeletal samples. Mixed base profiles and the percentage of damaged reads were both indicators of possible contamination and can provide better results if used together. Furthermore, our freely available in-house pipeline can provide variants concordant with the forensic software

    Equivalence problem for the orthogonal webs on the sphere

    We solve the equivalence problem for the orthogonally separable webs on the three-sphere under the action of the isometry group. This continues a classical project initiated by Olevsky in which he solved the corresponding canonical forms problem. The solution to the equivalence problem together with the results by Olevsky forms a complete solution to the problem of orthogonal separation of variables to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation defined on the three-sphere via orthogonal separation of variables. It is based on invariant properties of the characteristic Killing two-tensors in addition to properties of the corresponding algebraic curvature tensor and the associated Ricci tensor. The result is illustrated by a non-trivial application to a natural Hamiltonian defined on the three-sphere.Comment: 32 page
