The study intended to test for mediation effects of self-reported executive function (EF) between obesity and past 30-days suicide-behaviors. A web-based survey was conducted diffusing it to the general Mexican population via social media. Suicide was evaluated with the corresponding module of the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, and a short form of the Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functions-Adults for EF. Body mass index was computed from the self-reported height/weight. Causal-mediation analyses was performed for each of the suicide variables, including obesity and EF as predictor and mediator, respectively. Data from 1234 participants was analyzed, 274 classified as having obesity. EF partially mediated 20% of the effect of obesity on suicide behaviors. As the BMI progresses to the categories of obesity, EF deficiencies may be insufficient to cope optimally with the emotional and social stressors associated to obesity, thus leading to more frequent or intense suicide ideation, planning or attemptsEl presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de mediación del autorreporte de funcio-namiento ejecutivo (FE) entre la obesidad y la conducta suicida en los 30 días previos.

The synthesis of three coordination polymers of cerium(III) and the ligand pyridine-2,4,6-tricarboxylate (PTC) is reported. Two of the materials crystallise under hydrothermal conditions at 180 °C, with [Ce(PTC)(H O) ]·1.5H O, (1), being formed on extended periods of reaction time, 3 days or longer, and Ce(PTC)(H O) , (2), crystallising after 1 day. Both phases contain Ce(III) but are prepared using the Ce(IV) salt Ce(SO ) ·4H O as reagent. Under solvothermal conditions (mixed water- , -dimethylformamide (DMF)), the phase [Ce(PTC)(H O)(DMF)]·H O (3) is crystallised. The structures of the three materials are resolved by single crystal X-ray diffraction, with the phase purity of the samples determined by powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. (1) is constructed from helical chains cross-linked by the PTC linkers to give a three-dimensional structure that contains clusters of water molecules in channels that are hydrogen-bonded to each other and to additional waters that are coordinated to cerium. (2) also contains nine-coordinate cerium but these are linked to give a dense framework, in which water is directly coordinated to cerium. (3) contains corner-shared nine-coordinate cerium centres, linked to give a framework in which Ce-coordinated DMF fills space. Upon heating the material (1) in air all water is irreversibly lost to give a poorly crystalline anhydrous phase Ce(PTC), as deduced from X-ray thermodiffractometry and thermogravimetric analysis. The material (1), however, is hydrothermally stable, and is also stable under oxidising conditions, where immersion in 30% H O gives no loss in crystallinity. Oxidation of around 50% of surface Ce to the +4 oxidation state is thus possible, as evidenced by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which is accompanied by a colour change from yellow to orange. Photocatalytic activity of (1) is screened and the material shows effective degradation of methyl orange

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is an appropriate therapeutic environment for the treatment of newborns in serious condition, which has the latest technology and diversified equipment, in addition to highly trained and specific professionals for the care of newborns. The objective is to analyze and describe the scientific evidence on the risk factors for the development of cutaneous and care to maintain the integrity of the newborn's skin in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). An integrative literature review was carried out, with a descriptive nature and a qualitative approach. The data search was performed through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), and its databases: BDENF, MEDLINE, LILACS and IBECS. Complete works were included, available in full, that addressed the theme: skin integrity, with an emphasis on care and practices adopted in the NICU, including risk factors and incidence of injuries, in addition to studies that were sampled by preterm NB and the term, published from 2016 to 2021, in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Works that did not present relevant theoretical foundations on the subject were excluded, as well as publications with duplicity. Through the studies, it can be concluded that several factors are associated with the appearance of skin lesions, and prematurity should be highlighted as one of the main points, considering that premature NBs have more sensitive skin, making them more susceptible to the onset of most. Aureonitol, a Fungi-Derived Tetrahydrofuran, Inhibits Influenza Replication by Targeting Its Surface Glycoprotein Hemagglutinin

<div><p>The influenza virus causes acute respiratory infections, leading to high morbidity and mortality in groups of patients at higher risk. Antiviral drugs represent the first line of defense against influenza, both for seasonal infections and pandemic outbreaks. Two main classes of drugs against influenza are in clinical use: M2-channel blockers and neuraminidase inhibitors. Nevertheless, because influenza strains that are resistant to these antivirals have been described, the search for novel compounds with different mechanisms of action is necessary. Here, we investigated the anti-influenza activity of a fungi-derived natural product, aureonitol. This compound inhibited influenza A and B virus replication. This compound was more effective against influenza A(H3N2), with an EC50 of 100 nM. Aureonitol cytoxicity was also very low, with a CC50 value of 1426 μM. Aureonitol inhibited influenza hemagglutination and, consequently, significantly impaired virus adsorption. Molecular modeling studies revealed that aureonitol docked in the sialic acid binding site of hemagglutinin, forming hydrogen bonds with highly conserved residues. Altogether, our results indicate that the chemical structure of aureonitol is promising for future anti-influenza drug design.</p></div

<p>(A) Virus particles were pre-treated for 1 h at room temperature. This mixture was diluted and incubated with MDCK cells for 1 h at 37°C (black bar). MDCK cells were pre-treated for 1 h at 37°C and washed. The cells were then exposed to pseudotyped influenza for 1 h at 4°C, washed again, and the temperature was shifted to 37°C (white bar). MDCK cells were exposed to the indicated influenza pseudotyped virus and treated for 1 h at 4°C. The cells were then washed with PBS and the temperature was raised to 37°C (gray bars). (B) Using the last treatment approach, pseudotyped influenza viruses representative of the indicated strains were used, and different concentrations of aureonitol were evaluated. (C) MDCKs (2 x 106 cells) were infected with influenza at a MOI of 1.0 for 1 h at 4°C in the presence of the indicated treatments. After that, the cells were washed, lysed with buffer A and centrifuged (10 min. at 1000 x <i>g</i>). RNA was extract from the supernatant fraction, and quantitative RT-PCR to detect influenza A genome was performed. In panels A and B, luciferase activity was measured with a commercial kit (Promega). In panel C, the standard curve method was employed using a plasmid containing the influenza M1 gene as a reference. The experiments were performed 4 times. *<i>P <</i> 0.01.</p
