Early evolution of disrupted asteroid P/2016 G1 (PANSTARRS)
We present deep imaging observations of activated asteroid P/2016 G1
(PANSTARRS) using the 10.4m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) from late April to
early June 2016. The images are best interpreted as the result of a relatively
short-duration event with onset about days before
perihelion (i.e., around 10th February, 2016), starting sharply and decreasing
with a days (Half-width at half-maximum, HWHM). The
results of the modeling imply the emission of 1.710 kg of
dust, if composed of particles of 1 micrometer to 1 cm in radius, distributed
following a power-law of index --3, and having a geometric albedo of 0.15. A
detailed fitting of a conspicuous westward feature in the head of the
comet-like object indicates that a significant fraction of the dust was ejected
along a privileged direction right at the beginning of the event, which
suggests that the parent body has possibly suffered an impact followed by a
partial or total disruption. From the limiting magnitude reachable with the
instrumental setup, and assuming a geometric albedo of 0.15 for the parent
body, an upper limit for the size of possible fragment debris of 50 m in
radius is derived.Comment: Accepted by ApJ Letter
Wetting phenomenon in the liquid-vapor phase coexistence of a partially miscible Lennard-Jones binary mixture
We have carried out extensive equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations
to study the structure and the interfacial properties in the liquid-vapor (LV)
phase coexistence of partially miscible binary Lennard-Jones (LJ) mixtures. By
analyzing the structural properties as a function of the miscibility parameter,
, we found that at relatively low temperatures the system separates
forming a liquid A-liquid B interface in coexistence with the vapor phase. At
higher temperatures and, , we found a temperature range,
, where the liquid phases
are wet by the vapor phase. Here, represents the wetting
transition temperature (WTT) and is the consolute
temperature of the mixture. However, for , no wetting
phenomenon occurs. For the particular value, , we analyzed
quantitatively the versus , and versus
phase diagrams and found, , and
. We also studied quantitatively, as a function of
temperature, the surface tension and the adsorption of molecules at the
liquid-liquid interface. It was found that the adsorption shows a jump from a
finite negative value up to minus infinity, when the vapor wets the liquid
phases, suggesting that the wetting transition (WT) is of first order. The
calculated phase diagram together with the wetting phenomenon strongly suggest
the existence of a tricritical point. These results agree well with some
experiments carried out in fluid binary mixtures.Comment: Enlarged version that include results of more extensive simulations.

New Insights Into Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) FatA and FatB Thioesterases, Their Regulation, Structure and Distribution
Sunflower seeds (Helianthus annuus L.) accumulate large quantities of triacylglycerols (TAG) between 12 and 28 days after flowering (DAF). This is the period of maximal acyl-acyl carrier protein (acyl-ACP) thioesterase activity in vitro, the enzymes that terminate the process of de novo fatty acid synthesis by catalyzing the hydrolysis of the acyl-ACPs synthesized by fatty acid synthase. Fatty acid thioesterases can be classified into two families with distinct substrate specificities, namely FatA and FatB. Here, some new aspects of these enzymes have been studied, assessing how both enzymes contribute to the acyl composition of sunflower oil, not least through the changes in their expression during the process of seed filling. Moreover, the binding pockets of these enzymes were modeled based on new data from plant thioesterases, revealing important differences in their volume and geometry. Finally, the subcellular location of the two enzymes was evaluated and while both possess an N-terminal plastid transit peptide, only in FatB contains a hydrophobic sequence that could potentially serve as a transmembrane domain. Indeed, using in vivo imaging and organelle fractionation, H. annuus thioesterases, HaFatA and HaFatB, appear to be differentially localized in the plastid stroma and membrane envelope, respectively. The divergent roles fulfilled by HaFatA and HaFatB in oil biosynthesis are discussed in the light of our data.España MINECO y FEDER Projects AGL2014- 53537-R y AGL2017-83449-
Compact set of invariants characterizing graph states of up to eight qubits
The set of entanglement measures proposed by Hein, Eisert, and Briegel for
n-qubit graph states [Phys. Rev. A 69, 062311 (2004)] fails to distinguish
between inequivalent classes under local Clifford operations if n > 6. On the
other hand, the set of invariants proposed by van den Nest, Dehaene, and De
Moor (VDD) [Phys. Rev. A 72, 014307 (2005)] distinguishes between inequivalent
classes, but contains too many invariants (more than 2 10^{36} for n=7) to be
practical. Here we solve the problem of deciding which entanglement class a
graph state of n < 9 qubits belongs to by calculating some of the state's
intrinsic properties. We show that four invariants related to those proposed by
VDD are enough for distinguishing between all inequivalent classes with n < 9
qubits.Comment: REVTeX4, 9 pages, 1 figur
An Estimated New-Keynesian Model with Unemployment as Excess Supply of Labor
Wage stickiness is incorporated to a New-Keynesian model with variable capital in a
way that generates endogenous unemployment fluctuations as the log difference
between aggregate labor supply and aggregate labor demand. After estimation with U.S.
data, the implied second-moment statistics of the unemployment rate provide a
reasonable match with those observed in the data. Our results also show that wagepush
shocks, demand shifts and monetary policy shocks are the three major
determinants of unemployment fluctuations. Compared to an estimated canonical DSGE
model without unemployment: wage stickiness is higher, labor supply elasticity is lower,
the slope of the New-Keynesian Phillips curve is flatter, and the importance of
technology innovations on output growth variability increases
Results of compressive creep of an alumina matrix composite reinforced with different contents of silicon carbide platelets or whiskers,
at temperature of 1400 C, with creep rates ranging from 10"^ to 10"^ s"-^, and true stresses up to 400 MPa has been analized.
At this temperature cuasi steady-sates of deformation were achieved. New data is presented, for the material reinforced with platelets,
and are compared with those obtained in the same experimental conditions for other composites reinforced with whiskers. From
widely accepted considerations about the mechanisms responsible for the high temperature diffusional creep in these composites,
different types of data analysis and representation of the results are showed in order to understand the effect of the reinforcements,
particularly the effect on the stress tresshold needed to activate the sliding of grains during diffusional controlled creep
ADVANCED MANAGEMENT APPLIED TO PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS (PPP) FOR HEALTH CARE: ONTOLOGICAL, EPISTEMOLOGICAL AND AXIOLOGICAL ASPECTS
The present argumentative essay aims to review the ontological, epistemological and axiological aspects related to the Advanced Management of mixed health care services, with a focus on public-private partnerships (PPP), exposing the elements that define the bases, knowledge and values ??of the construct of the Management for these groups. As a consequence, Advanced Management implies a conceptualization that puts the human being before it, as an essential element of the management process of organizations, while public-private partnerships involve opportunities to develop entities that take advantage of the efficiency of private management in the counter provision of infrastructure construction or provision of services with a social function, as represented by health care. Hence, there are guiding elements, both fundamental and value-based, that identify the space within the health care system, leading to social efficiency and resource management in public-private partnerships
