General preferences for consumption goods in the random matching model of commodity money

This paper generalizes the original random matching model of money by Kiyotaki and Wright (1989) (KW) in two aspects: first, the economy is characterized by an arbitrary distribution of agents who specialize in producing a particular consumption good; and second, these agents have preferences such that they want to consume any good with some probability. The results depend crucially on the size of the fraction of producers of each good and the probability with which different agents want to consume each good. The economic effects of a Spanish trade boycott against Catalan products

We study the potential consequences of a hypothetical trade boycott against Catalan products organized by some sectors of the Spanish society mainly for political reasons. A symmetric trade boycott would have two effects: a reduction of Catalan exports to Spain and a partial process of import substitution in Catalonia. In order to quantify the economic impact of the boycott, we compare the "actual" Catalan economy, as described in the input-output table for 2005, with a "simulated" Catalan economy that takes into account the effects of a boycott on the trade exchanges between Catalonia and Spain.trade boycott, input output analysis

Are changes in education important for the wage premium and unemployment?

A generalized rise in unemployment rates for both college and high-school graduates, a widening education wage premium, and a sharp increase in college education participation are characteristic features of the transformations of the U.S. labor market between 1970 and 1990. This paper investigates the interactions between these changes in the labor market and in educational attainment. First, it develops an equilibrium search and matching model of the labor market where education is endogenously determined. Second, calibrated versions of the model are used to study quantitatively whether either a skill-biased change in technology or a mismatch shock can explain the above facts. The skill-biased shock accounts for a considerable part of the changes but fails to produce the increase in unemployment for the educated labor force. William Drummond de Hawthornden y sus traducciones de Garcilaso de la Vega en la revista londinense 1616 (1934-1935)

Entre 1934 y 1935, los poetas españoles Manuel Altolaguirre y Concha Méndez publicaron en Londres la revista 1616, con la que aspiraron a compilar en diez hermosos números la mejor lírica inglesa y española. A pesar de que la revista contaba con el original subtítulo «saw the death of W. S. & M. de C. », con el que se hacía referencia a la muerte de William Shakespeare y Miguel de Cervantes, no se les incluyó en ningún número, donde sí aparecieron autores contemporáneos como Jorge de Montemayor, Sir Philip Sidney, Garcilaso de la Vega, William Drummond de Hawthornden y Lope de Vega. En este artículo se analizan los condicionantes de la elección de los poemas de Garcilaso y las versiones que de ellos realizó Drummond, publicados en el segundo número. Para ello tomamos como punto de partida la biografía del poeta que Altolaguirre publicó un año antes, su correspondencia y las conferencias que impartió en Inglaterra.Between 1934 and 1935, Spanish poets Manuel Altolaguirre and Concha Méndez published in London a review called 1616, with the aim of compiling the best English and Spanish poetry in ten stunning issues. Wage inequality and unemployment with overeducation

A skill-biased change in technology can account at once for the changes observed in a number of important variables of the US labour market between 1970 and 1990. These include the increasing inequality in wages, both between and within education groups, and the increase in unemployment at all levels of education. In contrast, in previous literature this type of technology shock cannot account for all of these changes. The paper uses a matching model with a segmented labour market, an imperfect correlation between individual ability and education, and a fixed cost of setting up a job. Wyndham Lewis and the Different Forms of Censorship

Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957), contemporáneo de T. S. Eliot, Pound y Joyce, adquirió su reputación en unas décadas particularmente fructíferas para la literatura en lengua inglesa. Antes de convertirse en un crítico implacable que diseccionó a la sociedad en sus novelas satíricas, en sus ensayos y sus dos autobiografías, Estallidos y bombardeos (1937; trad. 2008) y Rude Assignment (1950), Lewis fue pintor y dibujante, publicó relatos, poemas e incluso dos obras de teatro; editó tres revistas y consiguió convertirse en un profundo historiador cultural de su época a través de su obra de ficción y no ficción. Sin embargo, sus afiladas críticas, el lenguaje violento de sus escritos de vanguardia y su enemistad personal con influyentes escritores y críticos de la época desencadenaron continuas amenazas de litigio, que en muchas ocasiones tuvieron como resultado la censura -más o menos visible- de sus escritos y su pintura. En este artículo no solo se analizan estos conflictos a lo largo de su vida sino también la repercusión que han tenido hasta nuestros días sus antiguas polémicas.Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957), a contemporary of T. S. Eliot, Pound and Joyce, made his name in a particularly fruitful period for Literature written in English. Before he became an implacable critic who dissected his society with his satirical novels, his essays and two volumes of memoirs, Blasting and Bombardiering (1937) and Rude Assignment (1950), Lewis was a painter and a draughtsman, published short stories, poems and even two plays; edited three magazines and managed to become an insightful cultural historian of the time through his fictional and non-fictional work. However, his sharp critiques, the violent language of his avant-garde writings and his personal enmities with influential writers and editors of his time triggered continuous threats of litigation, which many times led to censorship-more or less visible-of his writings and paintings. This article not only analyses these conflicts during his lifetime but it also examines the repercussion of his polemics to this day

Disseny i càlcul d'una instal·lació acústica d'informació al viatger

El projecte consta d'una introducció al so i les ones sonores, aixi com als factors que influeixen en la seva transmissió a través del camp obert, vist des de el punt de vista purament físic La percepció que té l'ésser humà del so, no es correspon de manera lineal amb les variacions físiques, es a dir, la nostra orella només es sensible a variacions relatives del doble o la mitat del valor sonor inicial. Es per això que per fer mesures de so, utilitzem el mètode logarítmic i parlem de decibels. La psicoacústica es la branca de l'acústica que estudia la percepció que te l'orella del so que rep de l'exterior. En una instal·lació de megafonia a l'aire lliure, s'ha de contemplar les possibles molèsties als veïns que estiguin en habitatges propers a l'estació. Aquest es un tema delicat, perquè a vegades els habitatges estan tant a prop de la via, que les molèsties son inevitables. S'ha fet un estudi teòric, de l'efecte que provoca l'orientació dels altaveus en l'espai al voltant de l'estació i s'explica un exemple d'instal·lació en una estació de ferrocarril Paraule

Lengua Inglesa I. Talleres de dicción: pronunciación y voz pasiva

Los distintos métodos y enfoques en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras han propiciado una mayor heterogeneidad, si cabe, en el aula. El objetivo de esta comunicación es conseguir que el nivel con el que parten los alumnos del primer año del grado en Estudios Ingleses alcance los estándares establecidos en el programa de la asignatura. Una vez realizado a principios del cuatrimestre un cuestionario inicial, en el que se les pide información sobre su aproximación al estudio de la lengua, se confirma que los alumnos desconocen ciertos aspectos relacionados con la dicción (oral y escrita) que son fundamentales para el desarrollo de su competencia comunicativa. Para ello, se plantean unos talleres basados en un ciclo de mejora docente (CMD) de la Universidad de Sevilla, en los que practicarán aspectos como la lectura de la transcripción de palabras en el diccionario y el uso apropiado de la voz pasiva
