Business intelligence governance framework in a university: universidad de la costa case study
Universities and companies have decision-making processes that allow to achieve
institutional objectives. Currently, data analysis has an important role in generating
knowledge, obtaining important patterns and predictions for formulating strategies. This
article presents the design of a business intelligence governance framework for the
Universidad de la Costa, easily replicable in other institutions. For this purpose, a
diagnosis was made to identify the level of maturity in analytics. From this baseline, a
model was designed to strengthen organizational culture, infrastructure, data
management, data analysis and governance. The proposal contemplates the definition of
a governance framework, guiding principles, strategies, policies, processes, decisionmaking body and roles. Therefore, the framework is designed to implement effective
controls that ensure the success of business intelligence projects, achieving an alignment
of the objectives of the development plan with the analytical vision of the institution
Structural Characterization of Linear Three-Dimensional Random Chains: Energetic Behaviour and Anisotropy
In this work, we will make an energetic and structural characterization of three-dimensional linear chains generated from a simple self-avoiding random walk process in a finite time, without boundary conditions, without the need to explore all possible configurations. From the analysis of the energy balance between the terms of interaction and bending (or correlation), it is shown that the chains, during their growth process, initially tend to form clusters, leading to an increase in their interaction and bending energies. Larger chains tend to “escape” from the cluster when they reach a number of “steps” N>∼1040 , resulting in a decrease in their interaction energy, however, maintaining the same behavior as flexion energy or correlation. This behavior of the bending term in the energy allows distinguishing chains with the same interaction energy that present different structures. As a complement to the energy analysis, we carry out a study based on the moments of inertia of the chains and their radius of gyration. The results show that the formation of clusters separated by “tails” leads to a final “prolate” structure for this type of chain, the same structure evident in real polymeric linear chains in a good solvent
WSIA: web ontological search engine based on smart agents applied to scientific articles
The Semantic Web proposed by the W3C (Word Wide Web Consortium), aims to make the automation of the information contained in the current web through semantic processing based on ontologies that define what must be the rules used for the representation knowledge. This article resulting from the research project “Model for the representation of knowledge based on Web ontologies and intelligent search agents, if required: Scientific articles WSIA” proposes an architecture for finding information through intelligent agents and ontologies Web of scientific articles. This paper shows the architecture, implementation and comparing these with traditional applications
Dyslexia Diagnosis by EEG Temporal and Spectral Descriptors: An Anomaly Detection Approach.
Diagnosis of learning difficulties is a challenging goal. There are huge number of factors involved in the evaluation procedure that present high variance among the population with the same difficulty. Diagnosis is usually performed by scoring subjects according to results obtained in different neuropsychological (performance-based) tests specifically designed to this end. One of the most frequent disorders is developmental dyslexia (DD), a specific difficulty in the acquisition of reading skills not related to mental age or inadequate schooling. Its prevalence is estimated between 5% and 12% of the population. Traditional tests for DD diagnosis aim to measure different behavioral variables involved in the reading process. In this paper, we propose a diagnostic method not based on behavioral variables but on involuntary neurophysiological responses to different auditory stimuli. The experiments performed use electroencephalography (EEG) signals to analyze the temporal behavior and the spectral content of the signal acquired from each electrode to extract relevant (temporal and spectral) features. Moreover, the relationship of the features extracted among electrodes allows to infer a connectivity-like model showing brain areas that process auditory stimuli in a synchronized way. Then an anomaly detection system based on the reconstruction residuals of an autoencoder using these features has been proposed. Hence, classification is performed by the proposed system based on the differences in the resulting connectivity models that have demonstrated to be a useful tool for differential diagnosis of DD as well as a method to step towards gaining a better knowledge of the brain processes involved in DD.This work was partly supported by the MINECO/FEDER under PGC2018-098813-B-C31, PGC2018-098813-B-C32 and PSI2015-65848-R projects. MATT: Multimodal Attention Level Estimation for e-learning Platforms
This work presents a new multimodal system for remote attention level
estimation based on multimodal face analysis. Our multimodal approach uses
different parameters and signals obtained from the behavior and physiological
processes that have been related to modeling cognitive load such as faces
gestures (e.g., blink rate, facial actions units) and user actions (e.g., head
pose, distance to the camera). The multimodal system uses the following modules
based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs): Eye blink detection, head pose
estimation, facial landmark detection, and facial expression features. First,
we individually evaluate the proposed modules in the task of estimating the
student's attention level captured during online e-learning sessions. For that
we trained binary classifiers (high or low attention) based on Support Vector
Machines (SVM) for each module. Secondly, we find out to what extent multimodal
score level fusion improves the attention level estimation. The mEBAL database
is used in the experimental framework, a public multi-modal database for
attention level estimation obtained in an e-learning environment that contains
data from 38 users while conducting several e-learning tasks of variable
difficulty (creating changes in student cognitive loads).Comment: Preprint of the paper presented to the Workshop on Artificial

This article shows the construction of software applications Cyclon Language First Grade App, like a strategy in which communities of practice, learning, knowledge, innovation and transformation are generated, understood as a transversal process, where collaborative, problematizing learning is encouraged, by critical inquiry, permanent interaction, cultural negotiations and the dialogue of knowledge, typical of the pedagogical proposal of the Ondas program. It is summarized in the following aspects: “Building an identity that incorporates the recognition of science and technology as a constituent element of everyday culture both in individuals and in the communities and institutions of which they are part, involving various sectors of society: productive, social, political, state and in the various territorial areas: local, departmental and national. Development of forms of organization oriented to the appropriation of values that recognize a cultural identity around science and technology in the aspects mentioned in the previous point. This implies models of participation, social mobilization and public recognition of scientific and technological activity. On the other hand, the incorporation of the research activity in the elementary and middle school involves the development of national, departmental and local financing mechanisms; in such a way that children and young people can develop their abilities and talents in a favorable environment of both social recognition and economic conditions. Development of a methodological strategy supported by ICT that helps the Colombian population to recognize and apply both individually and collectively, science and technology through research activities designed according to the characteristics of the scientific method. “The appropriation of ICTs as a constitutive part of the citizen and democratic culture of the CT + I and the construction of virtual reality as central to the process of knowledge democratization
