On the conditions for synchronous harmonic free vibrations

All conditions for synchronic harmonic oscillations are presented. These are for discrete and continuous undamped linear systems in free vibration. A vibrations literature review indicates that only one or the basic condition for synchronous harmonic free vibrations is known. This is, initial conditions as an eingenvector (or eigenfunction) for the initial displacements, and no generalized velocities for t=0. Moreover, although assumed or expected for continuous systems, this result appears solely or mainly for discrete systems in the literature

Building Racial Coalitions: Limitations and New Directions to Teaching “White Privilege”

In this article, I pull from critical race theory, psychology, and philosophy to deconstruct the underlying psychological components that lead to “white fragility,” and I explore the limitations in current pedagogical approaches to teaching privilege. I argue that we adopt a more nuanced and context based understanding of “white privilege,” one that breaks down the concept into its two constituent parts: the “privilege/adversity paradigm” and “colonizer alignment privilege.” In the former, basic human physical or cultural traits are presented to students as capable of being beneficial or detrimental depending on context. In the latter, the ways in which people create contexts to favor specific traits as well as the various contexts individuals shift between are analyzed. If done properly, these approaches can validate the personal struggles of all students, help them to acknowledge their advantages, and guide them towards overcoming the psychological hurdles that prevent effective coalition building

A comprehensive study on the influence of an inerter on the response of single-degree-of-freedom systems is presented; therefore, complete and thorough results for free and forced vibrations of linear SDOF systems with inerter are obtained. The free response results are for damped and undamped systems; moreover, the forced response solutions are for harmonic and arbitrary excitations. Design and construction of a folding umbrella for architectural spaces

O desenvolvimento desta pesquisa culmina num protótipo experimental realizado pela síntese metodológica do desenho experimental, para o qual foram considerados como referência os sistemas dobráveis. Esse conceito foi realizado no processo do protótipo de guarda-chuva dobrável. Essa modelação teve como referentes históricos o teatro ambulante do arquiteto Emilio Pérez Piñero, o qual está fundamentado no princípio de uma estrutura dobrável, e Leonardo Da Vinci, que criou um sistema de estruturas recíprocas desenvolvido por meio de esquemas construtivos e manifestos. A partir desses conceitos, o protótipo foi criado com o auxílio do software Witness, com o qual foi calculada a estrutura portadora e a membrana do modelo proposto. Destacou-se o processo de construção desse protótipo, com o qual foi gerado novo conhecimento técnico quanto à simulação e fabricação de sistemas dobráveis e transformáveis, que têm a capacidade de dobrar-se, mover-se e levantar-se em outro lugar.This research culminates in an experimental prototype, carried out through the methodological synthesis of the experimental design, for which folding systems were considered as a reference point. This concept was developed through a folding umbrella prototype. Said modeling had two historical referents: the itinerant theater of architect Emilio Pérez Piñero, based on the principle of a folding structure, and Leonardo Da Vinci, who created a system of reciprocal structures using constructive and manifest schemes. Following these concepts, the prototype was developed using the Witness software, where the supporting structure and the membrane were calculated. The highlight of the construction of this prototype was the assembly process, carried out with the help of undergraduate and graduate students, which generated new technical knowledge on the simulation and manufacturing of folding and transformable systems.El desarrollo de esta investigación culmina en un prototipo experimental realizado por la síntesis metodológica del diseño experimental, para lo cual se consideraron como referencia los sistemas plegables. Este concepto se llevó a cabo en el proceso del prototipo de paraguas plegable. Dicha modelación tuvo como referentes históricos el teatro ambulante del arquitecto Emilio Pérez Piñero, el cual se fundamenta en el principio de una estructura plegable, y Leonardo Da Vinci, quien creó un sistema de estructuras recíprocas que desarrolló por medio de esquemas constructivos y manifiestos. Siguiendo estos conceptos se creó el prototipo, con el manejo del software WinTess, donde se calculó la estructura portante y la membrana de dicho modelo propuesto. Lo más destacado fue el proceso de construcción de este prototipo, con lo cual se generó nuevo conocimiento técnico en cuanto a la simulación y fabricación de sistemas plegables y transformables, que tienen la capacidad de plegarse, moverse y erigirse en otro lugar

Diseño y prototipo de viviendas bioclimáticas versátiles para ciudades en sub desarrollo

La siguiente investigación desarrolla los parámetros necesarios para realizar un estudio variado de conceptos de diseño bioclimático para la creación de prototipos de la vivienda, basado en una serie de modelos comparativos en el crecimiento orgánico, desarrollado a partir de experimentos análogos, en los cuales encontramos conceptos morfológicos y estructurales sumamente importantes para la justificación el tema de investigación, esto desarrollan una geometría fractal lineal que ayudan a formar una traza reticular modular para los espacios arquitectónico dentro del espacio habitacional, pero de igual manera gesta la adecuación arquitectónica dentro del contexto. Estos enfoques estarán conformados en base al diseño orgánico como un principio metodológico en la reproducción de los modelos aproximados para el desarrollo de los espacios flexibles en la vivienda; aunque en el reporte se estudia principalmente el aspecto de crecimiento celular en el espacio, ya que a través de ella se desarrollan principios conceptuales, estos establecen un parámetro que ayudara a desarrolla la tecnología y diseño del sistema, dando paso a crear una serie de formas, que ayudarán a encontrar el modelo final, con esto se puede lograr un campo diferente y alternativo en el espacio arquitectónico ayudando a mejorar la conformación de la vivienda, ya que el estudio de todo este desarrollo fue la construcción de parámetros y cotas dentro de su medio ambiente, el análisis climático se desarrolló en la ciudad de Mata de Uva, Ver, que es una ciudad cálida-humedad, también se analizaron sus principales afectaciones de crecimiento urbano, pero esta investigación se delimita a gestar una estructura bioclimática versátil en donde el usuario tenga alternativas dentro de su espacio.The following research develops the necessary parameters to conduct a variety of bioclimatic design concepts for prototyping of housing, based on a series of comparative models on organic growth , developed from similar experiments , in which we find concepts structural and morphological extremely important to justify the research topic , this develop a linear fractal geometry help form a modular grid plan architectural spaces within the living space , but equally epic architectural adaptation in context. Una nueva especie de bagre de caverna, género Trichomycterus (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae), del sistema río Magdalena, cordillera Oriental, Colombia

A new species of troglomorphic catfish is described from de Gedania Cave, located in the middle Suárez River drainage, Magdalena River system, Colombia. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the combination of the following characters: reduction or loss of the cornea, reduction of eyes and skin pigmentation, very long nasal and maxillary barbels (maximum of 160% and 135% of HL, respectively), nine branched pectoral-fin rays, first unbranched ray of the pectoral fin prolonged as a long filament, reaching 80% of pectoral-fin length, anterior cranial fontanel connected with the posterior fontanel through an opening of variable length and width, first dorsal-fin pterygiophore inserted between neural spines of free vertebra 13-14 and free vertebrae 33-34. The presence of troglomorphisms such as regression of the eyes, reduction of skin pigmentation and long barbels suggest the troglobitic status of this species. A comparative analysis with other species of Trichomycterus from epigean and hypogean environments is presented.Una nueva especies de bagre troglomorfo es descrito de la cueva de Gedania, cuenca media del río Suárez, sistema río Magdalena, Colombia. La nueva especie puede distinguirse de sus congéneres por la combinación de los caracteres de reducción o pérdida de la córnea, reducción de ojos y pigmentación de la piel, barbillas nasales y maxilares muy largas (máximo 160 % y 135 % de LC respectivamente), nueve radios ramificados de la aleta pectoral, primer radio simple de la aleta pectoral prolongado como un filamento largo, alcanzando 80 % de la longitud de la aleta pectoral, fontanela craneal anterior conectada con la fontanela posterior por una apertura de amplitud y longitud variable, primer pterigioforo de la aleta dorsal insertado entre la espina neural de la vértebra libre 13-14 y 33-34 vertebras libres. La presencia de características troglomorficas como la regresión de ojos y reducción de la pigmentación, así como barbillas largas sugieren el estatus troglobítico de la especie. Se presenta un análisis comparativo con otras especies de Trichomycterus de ambientes epigeos e hipogeos
