The simulation of a twelve pulse diode rectifier with saturable reactors

    Get PDF
A twelve pulse diode rectifier with saturable reactors to allow a degree of phase control is simulated using mathematical software. First order differential equations are solved numerically to allow calculation of line current. Application of the fast Fourier transform to line current provides harmonic current magnitudes. Line current waveforms and harmonic magnitudes from the simulation agree with expected results. The simulation is to be used as part of a harmonic analysis of multiple parallel connected diode rectifier

Intercultural Sensitivity, Intercultural Competence & Intercultural Intelligence: A Review of the Literature and a Proposition of a Linear Relationship

    Get PDF
The ideas, terms and concepts surrounding intercultural competence are robust and offer varying degrees, phases and precursors. Working off of the definitions, models and stages of previous works, this review starts by providing working definitions of culture, intercultural sensitivity, intercultural competence and intercultural intelligence. This presentation of literature is sequenced in a way to give insight into how and why each of these terms lead into and overlap each other and how a causal relationship is manifested in each step. This review is approached through the lens of education and how these concepts can and are applied in a classroom environment. Conclusions are made regarding the linear, yet not prescriptive relationship among these steps

This paper describes studies performed using the numerical electromagnetics code (NEC) version 2 in predicting the radiated fields from a transmission tower fault

Aquatically acquired Aeromonas hydrophila wound infection A report of 3 cases

    Get PDF
The occurrence of Aeromonas hydrophila wound infections in healthy hosts after water-associated injury is being reported more frequently. This paper reports our experience with 3 such cases and outlines the importance of recognising the association between a water-related injury and, this organism

The role of aerodynamic forces in a mathematical model for suspension bridges

In a fish-bone model for suspension bridges studied by us in a previous paper we introduce linear aerodynamic forces. We numerically analyze the role of these forces and we theoretically show that they do not influence the onset of torsional oscillations. This suggests a new explanation for the origin of instability in suspension bridges: it is a combined interaction between structural nonlinearity and aerodynamics and it follows a precise pattern. This gives an answer to a long-standing question about the origin of torsional instability in suspension bridges

Elite male Flat jockeys display lower bone density and lower resting metabolic rate than their female counterparts: implications for athlete welfare

    Get PDF
To test the hypothesis that daily weight-making is more problematic to health in male compared with female jockeys, we compared the bone-density and resting metabolic rate (RMR) in weight-matched male and female Flat-jockeys. RMR (kcal.kg-1 lean mass) was lower in males compared with females as well as lower bone-density Z-scores at the hip and lumbar spine. Data suggest the lifestyle of male jockeys’ compromise health more severely than females, possibly due to making-weight more frequently

Ground state properties of heavy alkali halides

We extend previous work on alkali halides by calculations for the heavy-atom species RbF, RbCl, LiBr, NaBr, KBr, RbBr, LiI, NaI, KI, and RbI. Relativistic effects are included by means of energy-consistent pseudopotentials, correlations are treated at the coupled-cluster level. A striking deficiency of the Hartree-Fock approach are lattice constants deviating by up to 7.5 % from experimental values which is reduced to a maximum error of 2.4 % by taking into account electron correlation. Besides, we provide ab-initio data for in-crystal polarizabilities and van der Waals coefficients.Comment: accepted by Phys. Rev.
