Water sorption isotherms of different sodium alginates : thermodynamic evaluation and influence of mannuronate-guluronate copolymers

Water desorption isotherms of three alginates with different structural features were determined at 25, 37, and 50°C. The Halsey model was selected to fit the equilibrium water sorption data. Differential and integral enthalpy and entropy were estimated for tested alginates. Optimal storage conditions of tested alginates (moisture content from 0.15 to 0.20 kg water/kg dry solid and relative humidity from 35% to 50%) were determined from the maximum and minimum integral enthalpy and entropy values, respectively. A model was proposed to estimate the water sorption isotherms of al-ginates based on the alginate monomers (mannuronate, M, and guluronate, G) at low water activity (<0.4). M fraction was mainly responsible for the hygroscopicity of algi-nates. Impact of drying on the sodium alginate obtained after polyphenols ultrasound-assisted extraction from Ascophyllum nodosum seaweeds

Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of polyphenols from the brown seaweeds Ascophyllum nodosum leaves a solid phase where alginates can be extracted. This study characterizes alginates extracted after the UAE process, with and without an intermediate drying stage at different temperatures (50 and 90 °C) producing sequentially two bioactive compounds from a unique raw material. FT-IR and 1H NMR analyses showed the high purity of alginates with features in the range of commercial alginates. Drying at high temperature decreased average block length and viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of alginate from 428 to 133 kg/mol. Steady-shear curves (shear-thinning behaviour) and viscoelasticity (liquid like character) features depended clearly on Mv. Solutions of alginates with high Mv were more viscous and the elastic character was more relevant. Cox-Merz rule was only accomplished within the semi-dilute regimes of alginate concentration. Control psicológico parental y violencia escolar entre adolescentes en una muestra mexicana

Se analizó la asociación entre control psicológico parental y violencia escolar en una muestra de 403 adolescentes (50.1% hombres y 49.9% mujeres), con edades entre 12 y 16 años (Media= 13.21; D.E=.85), de dos secundarias en el estado de Colima, México. Se aplicaron dos cuestionario tipo Likert, uno para identificar las situaciones de violencia escolar (victimización y agresión) y otro para evaluar la percepción de los adolescentes respecto al control psicológico ejercido por sus papás y mamás. Se encontró que las mujeres comparadas con los hombres, perciben mayor control psicológico materno hacia ellas; con respecto al control psicológico paterno, las diferencias por sexo no fueron significativas. Los resultados también muestran una correlación positiva baja pero significativa, tanto para las situaciones de agresión como para las de victimización, con lo que se evidencia el valor predictivo que puede tener la variable de control psicológico parental sobre la dinámica del acoso escolar.We analyzed the association between parental psychological control and school violence in a sample of 403 adolescents (50.1% male and 49.9% female), aged between 12 and 16 years (M = 13.21, SD = .85), two secondary schools in the state of Colima, Mexico. We applied two Likert questionnaires, one to identify situations of school violence (victimization and aggression) and one to assess adolescents' perceptions regarding psychological control exercised by their dads and moms. They found that women compared to men, perceive greater maternal psychological control to them; with respect to parental psychological control, gender differences were not significant. The results also show a low but significant positive correlation, both aggression and situations for victimization, which is evidence that the predictive value of the variable can have parental psychological control on the dynamics of bullying.peerReviewe

Performance of Starch Gels on In Vitro Enzymatic Hydrolysis Assessed by Rheological Methodologies

Starch hydrolysis is attracting much attention due to its relationship to digestion and glucose release. The objective is to propose rapid and continuous analytical methods that allow measuring gels hydrolysis following apparent viscosity (μ). Three different starches (corn, wheat, and rice) are tested recording starch gelatinization followed by gels digestions (digestograms) using a rapid-visco analyzer (RVA) or a rheometer. Results are compared with those obtained by measuring glucose release along hydrolysis. A modified first-order kinetic model in the RVA (R2 > 0.99) and rheometer (R2 > 0.99) describes the gels digestograms. Wheat gel shows a higher hydrolysis rate (k), which indicates faster digestion followed by rice and corn gels. The proposed models allow rapid analysis of starch digestograms, allowing to discriminate among hydrolysis rate of different starches. Use of Moodle platform as a support for face to face university

Este estudio buscó identificar las competencias tecnológicas de los docentes de una Universidad al utilizar Moodle como complemento a sus clases presenciales. Se analizó el uso de dicha plataforma mediante un enfoque cualitativo-descriptivo, con la participación de cinco docentes. Se realizaron entrevistas y análisis de la utilización de la plataforma, como resultado se identificaron las competencias tecnológicas asociadas al uso de Moodle. Se concluye que las herramientas tecnológicas no son utilizadas a su máxima eficacia para mejorar la práctica del docente, por lo que se recomienda capacitación sobre su uso y beneficios.This study aimed to identify the technological competences of the teachers of a university that used the Moodle platform as a complement to their classroom teaching. The use of the platform was analyzed trough a qualitative and descriptive approach, with the participation of five teachers. Interviews and analysis were carried out, and as a result the technological competences related to the use of Moodle were identified. It is concluded that technological tool are not used to their maximum efficiency to improve the teaching practice, for which is recommended to implement training about their use and benefits

Manejo multidisciplinar de pacientes con enfermedad periodontal asociada a bruxismo y enfermedad vesículo-ampollosa.

El primer caso corresponde a un paciente que acude al Servicio de Prácticas Odontológicas con el objetivo de rehabilitar la estética dental y facial perdida. Tras la realización de la exploración y de las pruebas complementarias necesarias, se llega al diagnóstico de bruxismo con Periodontitis Crónica que ha producido edentulismo parcial. Después del estudio del caso, se le exponen al paciente las medidas para reestablecer la salud periodontal, así como diversas opciones de terapia prostodóntica. El segundo caso clínico trata de una paciente que acude afectada por un fuerte dolor de encías y sangrado espontáneo que le impide realizar actividades cotidianas con normalidad. Una vez realizada la exploración intraoral y llevar a cabo las pruebas complementarias pertinentes se llega al diagnóstico de sospecha de Penfigoide de Membranas Mucosas o Pénfigo Vulgar, además de Periodontitis Crónica. Bacterias heterótrofas de la zona arrecifal del Área Natural Protegida Complejo Los Cóbanos, Sonsonate, El Salvador

El objetivo del estudio fue conocer las concentraciones de bacterias heterótrofas y Vibrio spp. de la zona arrecifal del Área Natural Protegida (ANP) Complejo Los Cóbanos, específicamente frente a las playas El Flor, Punta Remedios y Salinitas; y, su relación con los parámetros fisicoquímicos. En el trabajo de campo se tomaron muestras de agua en los meses de febrero a abril del 2018, a los cuales se les midieron los parámetros fisicoquímicos in situ (temperatura) y ex situ (salinidad, oxígeno, disuel, pH, sólidos totales disueltos y turbidez). En el trabajo de laboratorio se realizaron recuentos en placa de agar marino y agar tiosulfato citrato bilis sacarosa (TCBS) para determinar la concentración de bacterias heterótrofas y Vibrio spp., respectivamente. Para confirmar la presencia de colonias de Vibrio spp. se resembraron colonias en agar tripticasa soya (TSA) a diferentes concentraciones de NaCI (3% y 8%); de las colonias desarrolladas en este medio se realizaron pruebas de tinción de Gram y prueba oxidasa

Utilidad de la ecobroncoscopia en la estadificación mediástinica del cáncer de pulmón

La estadificación mediastínica del cáncer de pulmón no microcítico (CPNM) en los candidatos a cirugía es de gran importancia para decidir la mejor opción terapéutica y establecer el pronóstico de supervivencia. El objetivo de nuestro trabajo ha sido conocer la utilidad de la Ecobroncoscopia (EBUS) en la estadificación mediastínica del CPNM en la Unidad de Neumología Intervencionista del Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valladolid (HCUV).Grado en Medicin
