Large magnetic dipole moments for neutrinos with arbitrary masses

    Get PDF
We show that there is a general sort of models in which it is possible to have large magnetic dipole moments for neutrinos while keeping their masses arbitrarily small. Some examples of these models are considered.Comment: REVTEX, 8 pages, 2 .eps figure

Fixed points and vacuum energy of dynamically broken gauge theories

    Get PDF
We show that if a gauge theory with dynamical symmetry breaking has non-trivial fixed points, they will correspond to extrema of the vacuum energy. This relationship provides a different method to determine fixed points.Comment: 17 pages, uuencoded latex file, 3 figures, uses epsf and epsfig. Submitted to Mod. Phys. Lett.

Remark on the vectorlike nature of the electromagnetism and the electric charge quantization

In this work we study the structure of the electromagnetic interactions and the electric charge quantization in gauge theories of electroweak interactions based on semi-simple groups. We show that in the standard model of the electroweak interactions the structure of the electromagnetic interactions is strongly correlated to the quantization pattern of the electric charges. We examine these two questions also in all possible chiral bilepton gauge models of the electroweak interactions. In all they we can explain the vectorlike nature of the electromagnetic interactions and the electric charge quantization together demanding nonvanishing fermion masses and the anomaly cancellations.Comment: 17 pages, latex, no figure

Comment on ``Majoron emitting neutrinoless double beta decay in the electroweak chiral gauge extensions''

We point out that if the majoron-like scheme is implemented within a 331 model, there must exist at least three different mass scales for the scalar vacuum expectation values in the model.Comment: 4 pages, no figures, Revtex. To be published in Physical Review

The spatial and compositional evolution of the Jurassic Ghorveh-Dehgolan plutons of the Zagros Orogen, Iran: SHRIMP zircon U-Pb and Sr and Nd isotope evidence

    Get PDF
The Ghorveh-Dehgolan plutons of the northern Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone, Zagros Orogen, comprise seven composite intrusive bodies that were generated during northeastward subduction of Neotethys beneath the Iranian sector of the Eurasian plate. Zircon U-Pb SHRIMP dating reveals that the magmatic activity spanned from ~160 to ~140Ma. It started with intrusion of arc-related calc-alkaline mafic to intermediate rocks closely followed by felsic I-type granitoids. This magmatism was post-dated by felsic alkaline A-type granites. In addition to compositional changes over time, the plutons forming the arc young towards the southwest: the north Ghorveh batholith (161±4Ma) and Shanevareh (160±2Ma); Qalaylan (159±3Ma); then central Ghorveh, Galali and Saranjianeh (151±0.2Ma to 148±1Ma); and, lastly, the south Ghorveh batholith (147±3Ma) and Bolbanabad-Havarpan (144±1Ma). Whatever the process driving the changes, be it arc- or ridge-collision with the subducting system, slab roll-back, slab breakoff, subduction initiation transference, etc., the progression from I-type to A-type magmatism appears to mark a significant change from a collisional to an extensional setting in the region in the Late Jurassic. Geochemical and isotopic characteristics of the Ghorveh-Dehgolan plutons indicate that Arabian-Nubian-like crust was an important component of the magmatic sources

The seesaw mechanism at TeV scale in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos

We implement the seesaw mechanism in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos. This is accomplished by the introduction of a scalar sextet into the model and the spontaneous violation of the lepton number. We identify the Majoron as a singlet under SUL(2)⊗UY(1)SU_L(2)\otimes U_Y(1) symmetry, which makes it safe under the current bounds imposed by electroweak data. The main result of this work is that the seesaw mechanism works already at TeV scale with the outcome that the right-handed neutrino masses lie in the electroweak scale, in the range from MeV to tens of GeV. This window provides a great opportunity to test their appearance at current detectors, though when we contrast our results with some previous analysis concerning detection sensitivity at LHC, we conclude that further work is needed in order to validate this search.Comment: about 13 pages, no figure

DYNAMICAL SOLUTION OF A MODEL WITHOUT ENERGY BARRIERS

In this note we study the dynamics of a model recently introduced by one of us, that displays glassy phenomena in absence of energy barriers. Using an adiabatic hypothesis we derive an equation for the evolution of the energy as a function of time that describes extremely well the glassy behaviour observed in Monte Carlo simulations.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX, 3 uuencoded figure

Rectal Metastases from Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Get PDF
Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represents 85% of lung cancer. The most frequent sites of distant metastasis are the liver, adrenal glands, bones and brain. Gastrointestinal metastases are uncommon and rectal metastases are extremely rare. Here we report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung with rectal metastases

Inelastic collisions in molecular nitrogen at low temperature (2<T<50 K)

    Get PDF
Theory and experiment are combined in a novel approach aimed at establishing a set of two-body state-to-state rates for elementary processes ij->lm in low temperature N2:N2 collisions involving the rotational states i, j, l, m. First, a set of 148 collision cross sections is calculated as a function of the collision energy at the converged close-coupled level via the MOLSCAT code, using a recent potential energy surface for N2–N2. Then, the corresponding rates for the range of 2<T<50 K are derived from the cross sections. The link between theory and experiment, aimed at assessing the calculated rates, is a master equation which accounts for the time evolution of rotational populations in a reference volume of gas in terms of the collision rates. In the experiment, the evolution of rotational populations is measured by Raman spectroscopy in a tiny reference volume 2E-3 mm3 of N2 traveling along the axis of a supersonic jet. The calculated collisional rates are assessed experimentally in the range of 4<T<35 K by means of the master equation, and then are scaled by averaging over a large set of experimental data. The scaled rates account accurately for the evolution of the rotational populations measured in a wide range of conditions. Accuracy of 10% is estimated for the main scaled rates. This work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, research Project Nos.
