FVF-Based Low-Dropout Voltage Regulator with Fast Charging/Discharging Paths for Fast Line and Load Regulation

    Get PDF
A new internally compensated low drop-out voltage regulator based on the cascoded flipped voltage follower is presented in this paper. Adaptive biasing current and fast charging/discharging paths have been added to rapidly charge and discharge the parasitic capacitance of the pass transistor gate, thus improving the transient response. The proposed regulator was designed with standard 65-nm CMOS technology. Measurements show load and line regulations of 433.80 μV/mA and 5.61 mV/V, respectively. Furthermore, the output voltage spikes are kept under 76 mV for 0.1 mA to 100 mA load variations and 0.9 V to 1.2 V line variations with rise and fall times of 1 μs. The total current consumption is 17.88 μA (for a 0.9 V supply voltage).Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2015-71072-C3-3-RConsejería de Economía, Innovación y Ciencia. A Finite Element‑Based Methodology for the Thermo‑mechanical Analysis of Early Age Behavior in Concrete Structures

    Get PDF
This paper presents a general procedure based on fracture mechanics models in order to analyze the level of cracking and structural safety in reinforced concrete elements at early ages, depending on the stripping time. Our procedure involves the development of a thermo-mechanical numerical model based on the finite element method that accounts for the change in the mechanical properties of concrete with time. Moreover, fracture mechanisms are analyzed by means of a material damage model, which is characterized via specific experimental results obtained for standard specimens and notched beams under three-point bending testing. The loading conditions are both thermal and mechanical, and are obtained from the hydration process for a given concrete dosage. The presented methodology allows for the determination of the optimal stripping time, whereas it helps assessing the analysis of the cracking and the stress states of the elements under consideration. A practical application, namely the analysis of a retaining wall, is used to validate our methodology, showing its suitability in engineering practice.

Analysis of the geometric parameters influence in PCB fixtures for 2D multipole magnetization patterning of thin layer micro-magnets

    Get PDF
Magnetic actuators, magnetic gears, vibrational energy harvesters and other micro-electromagnetic devices requires micro-magnetic rotors with alternant magnetizations to optimize their performance. Different approaches have been used for multipole magnetization of micro-magnets like fixed micro-fixtures, thermomagnetic patterning or laser machining. The main limitation of the previous techniques is that the inversion of the magnetic polarizations is only partially done. In this work, a concept based on 2D multipole magnetization printing of micro-magnets is proposed and analyzed to overcome current limitations. The fixtures are designed to be printed on a standard 35 μm PCB. The dependence of the magnetizing field with respect to the geometrical parameter of the fixture is analyzed. Maps of the required current for the magnetizing fields are also given. Some design recommendations to optimize the magnetizing field and to minimize current, thus the heat, are given.Universidad de Alcal

Spectral Biomimetic Technique for Wood Classification

    Get PDF
Palatal clicks are most interesting for human echolocation. Moreover, these sounds are suitable for other acoustic applications due to their regular mathematical properties and reproducibility. Simple and nondestructive techniques, bioinspired by synthetized pulses whose form reproduces the best features of palatal clicks, can be developed. The use of synthetic palatal pulses also allows detailed studies of the real possibilities of acoustic human echolocation without the problems associated with subjective individual differences. These techniques are being applied to the study of wood. As an example, a comparison of the performance of both natural and synthetic human echolocation to identify three different species of wood is presented. The results show that human echolocation has a vast potential

Cumulative Inflammation and HbA1c Levels Correlate with Increased Intima‐Media Thickness in Patients with Severe Hidradenitis Suppurativa

    Get PDF
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that has been associated with a greater risk of metabolic and cardiovascular comorbidities. The aim of this study is to assess cardiovascular risk by means of intima‐media thickness (IMT), metabolic syndrome, and other potential biomarkers in patients with severe hidradenitis suppurativa who are candidates for biologic therapy and to explore potentially associated factors. A cross‐sectional study was performed. Body mass index (BMI), carotid intima‐media thickness (IMT), and blood tests, including glycemic and lipid profile, insulin, vitamin D, and inflammation markers were performed. Fifty patients were included in the study; the male/female ratio was 3:2. The mean age was 38 years, and the mean disease duration was 21.8 years. The mean carotid IMT was 651.39 μm. A positive association of IMT with disease duration, tobacco consumption, and HbA1c levels was observed. HbA1c correlated with the age of onset, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and glucose levels. Vitamin D levels inversely correlated with the number of areas affected. In conclusion, patients with severe HS present a higher cardiovascular risk, but it is not distributed equally within the patients: Tobacco consumption, inadequate glycemic control, and disease duration could be useful clinical and biochemical markers to identify patients at higher risk

Validation the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14sp) for adults in Spain

Objectives: The oral health-related quality of life indicators are increasingly used to measure the impact of oral conditions on quality of life to complement clinical data in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. One of the most internationally spread indi- cators is the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), but it has still never been applied in Spain. The aim of this study was to validate the OHIP-14 for use among adults in Spain. Study design: A cross-sectional study was performed in Granada (Spain). A consecutive sample (n=270) of the Regional Government staff visiting the Employment Risk Prevention Centre for a routine medical check-up participated in this study. All participants self-completed the piloted OHIP-14sp and were examined according to World Health Organization methodology for caries, periodontal disease and prosthesis. Reliability analyses and validity tests were carried out to evaluate the psychometric properties of the OHIP-14sp by using two different methods of total scoring (i.e. the Additive and the Simple Count). Results: The reliability coefficient (Cronbach ́s alpha) of the OHIP-14sp was above the recommended 0.7 threshold and considered excellent (alpha: 0.89). Some subjective factors (perceived dental treatment need, complaints about mouth and self-rated oral satisfaction) were strongly associated with both total scoring methods of the OHIP-14sp, supporting the criterion, construct and convergent validity. Moreover the impact levels were mainly influenced by caries data, e.g., number of teeth requiring extraction (r = 0.21; p<0.01) and number of decayed visible teeth (between premolars) (r = 0.17; p<0.01). The prevalence of impacts was 80.7% using the occasional or more frequently threshold. The most prevalently affected OHIP domains were “psychological discomfort” (53.7%), “functional limitation” (51.1%) and “physical pain” (42.2%). Conclusions: The OHIP-14sp is a precise, valid and reliable instrument for assessing oral health-related quality of life among adult population in Spain

    Get PDF
Nowadays, in spite of the preventive campaigns that have been made in order to control heart risk factors, heart diseasesare the first cause of mortality in the world in both men and women. Moreover, the consequences of these pathologies are usually assessed by using quantitative parameters such as the mortality or morbidity rate, the economic cost or impact which they generate, etc. Although it is clearly evident that we need to use qualitative control instruments which help us understand how people sense the disease. This view would facilitate an improvement of the assistance given and of the approach which is givento these pathologies. As for the heart disease in women, there have been some differences in aspects like the therapeutic effort or the diagnosis. The point which motivates this research is the following one: What happens after the discharge from hospital? What kind of assistance does the Health System offer to a woman who has suffered a heart attack and has been discharged from hospital? What kind of possibilities does our Health System offer to patients once they have been discharged from hospital? Or what"s more, Are the different psychological, social, cultural and physical spheres to which the patient must 'return' being considered? This text p roposes the introduction of a comprehensive assistance programme for women with ischaemic heart disease after they have been discharged from hospital and tries to meet the necessities which can be generated after the assistance process in all the individual spheres in order to guarantee the assistance care as far the holistic point of view is concerned
