Obtaining a bioadsorbent from orange peel suitable for batch and continous treatment

One form of chemical contamination involves the contribution of heavy metals to the ecosystem mainly from industrial spills and mining operations. The most toxic heavy metals are cadmium, copper, chromium, mercury, nickel, lead and zinc. The importance of this type of toxic lies in the tendency to be accumulated and concentrated by the different species, being more dangerous as it ascends the evolutionary chain towards man.Chemical precipitation is the most widely used technique for metal recovery. This process is conditioned by the pH, metal concentration and anions present in the water to be treated.Bioadsorption is considered a viable alternative to the physico-chemical methods currently used for the recovery or removal of heavy metals dissolved in liquid effluents. Its main attractiveness, from an industrial point of view, is its low cost dueto the great abundance, easy obtaining and low price of the bioadsorbent material. Bioadsorption is very effective in the treatment of metal concentrations below 100 mg/L, where the application of physical-chemical methods is not technically and economically feasible.One of these materials of interest is orange peelsbecause, due to their abundance as a waste product of the food industries, they have problems for their disposal and currently have little economic value. However, this residue has a low adsorption capacity, so both physical and chemical modifications arerequired to increase its adsorption properties.The objective of this work has been to optimize the treatment of orange peel intended to obtain a bioadsorbent that allows the removal of heavy metals both in a discontinuous process (Batch) and in an ongoing process. The verification of the characteristics of the bioadsorbent obtained has been carried out with a series of synthetic solutions of Cu (II).The particle size and consistency of the final bioadsorbent has been optimized. In addition, to achieve a homogeneous elution in the continuous process, additional heat treatment has been necessary to prevent the development of microorganisms in a period of time less than one week.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Resolución de problemas, autorretrato heurístico y protocolos

En este trabajo se exponen algunas reflexiones en torno al tema de resolución de problemas en matemática. En la primera parte se abordan cuestiones relativas a la definición de problema y de resolución de problemas y su presencia en la labor docente, específicamente en la evaluación. La segunda parte ofrece consideraciones sobre el Autorretrato Heurístico y los diferentes aspectos cognoscitivos, metacognoscitivos y afectivos presentes en la actividad de resolución de problemas. La tercera parte trata sobre los protocolos, como herramienta para el registro de esta actividad, proponiendo un procedimiento para la elaboración de protocolos que contribuya a minimizar el eventual efecto perturbador del registro y maximizar el progresivo autoconocimiento del resolvedor

Procedimiento metodológico para la medición del capital intelectual en empresas hoteleras.

This paper presents a procedure for measuring and assessing intellectual capital in hotel companies. It covers all aspects that need to be considered by managers in order to achieve positive results. The theoretical foundations of the procedure and its concept scheme derive from the identification of a system of principles. The procedure is structured in 3 different stages: Diagnosis, Instrumentation and Execution.El artículo presenta la propuesta de un procedimiento dirigido a la medición y evaluación del capital intelectual en las empresas hoteleras, que parte de una concepción que aborda los aspectos que el directivo de este tipo de organizaciones debe emplear, de manera ineludible, si pretende alcanzar un resultado favorable. Nuevas perspectivas y documentos sobre la vida musical en la Catedral de Quito (1545-1836)

This work offers new data about musical life at the Cathedral of Quito, specifically from the rise of the diocese in 1545 to 1836. It starts from a method based on historical musicology, adding a new perspective that shows how foreign documentation of the cathedral can be beneficial in revealing information about itself. This article also pretends to update and provide news concerning music and musicians involved in the cathedral precinct and their circulation through other Quito religious institutions beyond what was said in the pioneering research published by Robert Stevenson in 1963

Música contemporánea

El repertorio escogido será de jazz en su totalidad, así como también el estilo a ejecutarse. El formato del ensamble se presentará como un quinteto. En el repertorio se incluirán nueve temas, de los cuales cuatro serán obras arregladas y tres serán originales. Además, se interpretarán dos baladas como arreglo para guitarra sola. Las obras arregladas serán un reflejo del jazz tradicional, complementadas con introducciones, interludios, shouts y codas que realcen las características de las mismas, pero manteniendo su tradicionalidad. Por otra parte, las obras originales serán composiciones fundamentadas en el jazz tradicional y enriquecidas con arreglos y armonías contemporáneas, todo dentro de un contexto puramente tonal funcional. Los instrumentos a usarse serán batería, contrabajo, guitarra, piano acústico y saxofón alto. La idea principal será crear una interacción entre los cinco instrumentos
