Functional characterization of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) transcription factors and transcriptional regulator during the fruit ripening, and genes with biotechnological interest

The strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) belongs to the family Rosaceae in the genus Fragaria. This soft fruit is cultivated in different regions of the world and is part of the diet of millions of people. Spain is the first producer of strawberries in Europe and the second one in the world after United States (FAO, 2012). The main octoploid variety Fragaria × ananassa cultivated is the result of crossing two native American species, F. virginiana and F. chiloensis (Hancock, 1999; Mabberley, 2002; Eriksson et al., 2003). The wild diploid species Fragaria vesca is also considered as an ancestor of the cultivated octoploid variety. Recently, the genome of the wild species Fragaria vesca has been sequenced (Shulaev et al., 2011). This information, together with the ESTs (expressed sequence tag) availability from cultivated species and the development of efficient transformation techniques of these varieties, will allow the development of genomics and recombinant DNA studies between different species of Rosaceae in the future (Bombarely et al., 2010). Strawberry fruit has been classified as non-climacteric, since there is no concomitant burst of respiration and ethylene production that triggers to the ripening process. Thus, all changes related with the fruit ripening occur without a significant increase in ethylene production, which suggests that this process is independent of this hormone (Iwata et al., 1969a and 1969b; Villareal et al., 2010). The strawberry fruit has a maximum respiration at the transition between stages ripe to overripe. Strawberries are much appreciated for their flavor, aroma and nutritional value. The mature fruit is composed of approximately 90 % water and 10% total soluble solids. Moreover, it contains many important dietary components such as vitamin C, soluble sugars such as glucose and fructose (which constitute over 80 % of total sugars), organic acids such as citric acid (88 % of total acids) and ellagic acid, which has anticancer properties (Green, 1971; Wrolstad and Shallenberger, 1981; Maas et al., 1991; Hemphill and Martin, 1992; Maas et al. 1996; Hancock, 1999). Soft fruits have an initial phase of growth and elongation, followed by a phase of maturity. The growth of the strawberry receptacle depends of the cortex and medulla cells development while the fruit size is mainly determined for the medulla cells development and the fruit position in the inflorescence (Hancock, 1999). Moreover, the fruit development is determined by the number and distribution of achenes, the receptacle area around each achene and the percentage of fertilized carpels. In this sense, the synthesis of auxin, fundamentally indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), which takes place in the achenes, is considerate the main responsible of the receptacle growth while gibberellins, cytokinins and abscisic acid have a limited role in the fruit growth (Nitsch,1950; Perkins-Veazie, 1995). Along the development and ripening processes, the strawberry fruit suffers important molecular changes such the removal of existing polypeptides and the synthesis of new proteins (Manning, 1994). In this sense, three evolution models of the transcripts have been described: mRNA whose concentration increases along the ripening, mRNA whose levels decrease over the ripening, and mRNA whose components exceed their maximum concentration in the intermediate stage, which then declined in stages of maturation (Veluthambi and Poovaiah, 1984; Reddy and Poovaiah, 1990; Reddy et al., 1990; Manning, 1994)

Food portion sizes and their relationship with energy, and nutrient intakes in adolescents: The HELENA study

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the associations between portion sizes (PSs) from different food groups and energy, as well as nutrient intakes in European adolescents. Methods: A sample of 1631 adolescents (54.2 % girls) were included from the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence Cross-Sectional (HELENA) study. Mean food PS was calculated by dividing the total intake of the items by the number of eating occasions of these consumed items. To determine the key items for analysis, foods were ranked by frequency of consumption. A one-way between-groups analysis of covariance was used to test for significant differences in means across tertiles. A multivariable linear regression analysis was carried out, adjusting for age, sex, maternal education, body mass index, and using country as a level. Results: Energy intake increased with elevated intakes of energy-dense foods. Large portions of rice and other grains, starch roots and potatoes, and meat substitutes, nuts, and pulses were associated with increased carbohydrate and fiber intake. Larger portions of cheese and butter and animal fat were significantly associated with a higher fat intake. Lower intakes of some vitamins and micronutrients were noticed with consumption of larger portions of high energy-dense foods, such as desserts and pudding, margarine and vegetable oil, and butter and animal fat. Conclusions: Large food PSs may be associated with positive energy, as well as macro- and micronutrient intake. Finanzas a Corto Plazo : Planeación financiera aplicada a la empresa Auto Forros,S.A. para el periodo 2014

La planeación financiera es una parte importante de las funciones de la empresa, al proporcionar una guía para dirigir, coordinar, controlar las acciones y alcanzar sus objetivos. El punto de partida para una planeación financiera a corto plazo es el entendimiento de las fuentes y los usos de fondos. Si el saldo de efectivo previsto es insuficiente para cubrir el día a día de las operaciones y proporcionar un amortiguador frente a las contingencias, se necesitara encontrar financiamiento adicional. La planeación financiera no intenta minimizar riesgos. Es un proceso de decidir que riesgos tomar y cuales son innecesarios o no merece la pena asumir. Es ordenar los recursos para que el futuro sea favorable, por ello se deben controlar los acontecimientos que sean manejables y adaptar los que no lo sean. Existen tres elementos claves en el proceso de planeación financiera: La planeación del efectivo, Planeación de utilidades, los presupuestos de caja y los estados proformas. En nuestro caso práctico trabajamos la Empresa Auto Forros S, A. Es una empresa que se dedica a fabricar forros para asientos de vehículos y les presentamos los Presupuesto de Ventas, Presupuesto de Compras, Presupuesto de costo de producción, Presupuestos de gastos Operativos, Presupuesto de efectivo, Análisis Horizontal y Vertical de la empresa Auto Forros S, A. En síntesis nuestro trabajo muestra una planeación financiera adecuada que busca optimizar los recursos y mejorar su desarrollo dentro del mercado en que se desenvuelve la empresa. Así también nos permitirá mejorar la calidad de los bienes que ofrecemos a nuestros clientes, optimizando así el nivel de satisfacción de los consumidores lo que hará que la empresa sea más competitiva a nivel local y a nivel nacional

Hoy en día la prostitución sigue causando un total rechazo social que conlleva diversos riesgos físicos y psicológicos para las personas que lo llevan a cabo. Este estudio consiste en una revisión bibliográfica acerca de dicho tema. Los factores de riesgo que se encuentran asociados a su práctica, así como una visión global de las características más comunes que presentan las meretrices, destacando su personalidad, la estima que se tienen a sí mismas y los valores personales. Estas transformaciones, en algunos casos, significan un esfuerzo que involucra en forma integral a la organización. Precisamente, en este artículo se expone una situación semejante ocurrida en la UNED a raíz de la puesta en práctica de la modalidad de cuatrimestres en 1996. En su gestación se plantearon expectativas dirigidas a: la calidad de los programas académicos, la agilización del progreso del estudiante, el aprovechamiento de los recursos y la mejor dotación de recursos financieros producto del aporte estudiantil.
