Using Tunable Resistive Pulse Sensing to Identify and Quantify Extracellular Vesicles

Calcification, the leading predictor of and direct contributor to cardiovascular disease, begins with the release of small, ~100 nm sized extracellular vesicles (EVs) by cells in response to pathological conditions such as plaque formation in arteries. Studies have shown that calcifying EVs released in bone possess a negative charge, which plays a vital role in the calcification process. These calcifying EVs exist within larger populations of vesicles released during normal cellular processes. One of the biggest challenges in studying EVs comes from their heterogeneity and small size. There are no methods that currently exist to separately assess and quantify calcifying EVs from the total EV population. Tunable resistive pulse sensing (TRPS) allows for EV-by-EV analysis and simultaneously captures both the unique size and charge of each particle, while also calculating EV concentration. TPRS uses an electrical current across a nanometer-sized pore to measure specific EV properties. When an EV travels through the pore, the current is disrupted. The magnitude of the disruption is proportional to EV size, while the duration of the disruption elicits EV charge properties. EV release from human vascular smooth muscle cells under different mechanical and chemical stimuli can be measured using this TRPS methodology. The use of TRPS can aid in the differentiation of unique EV properties that contribute to disease and potentially lead to better treatment options through the development of vesicle-specific therapies

Influencia del síndrome burnout en el clima organizacional de los gimnasios de entrenamiento funcional del municipio de Cartago Valle del Cauca

El trabajo de investigación planteado fue de tipo descriptivo que utilizo el método cuantitativo correlacional para la recolección de datos, análisis y discusión de resultados, con una población de 50 colaboradores de los gimnasios de entrenamiento funcional del municipio de Cartago Valle, cuyo objetivo principal fue Determinar la influencia del síndrome burnout en el clima organizacional de los mismo, planteando la siguiente hipótesis nula, el síndrome de burnout no afecta al clima organizacional y la hipótesis alternativa, el síndrome de burnout afecta al clima organizacional. Los resultados encontrados muestran que hay una influencia significativa entre el síndrome de burnout y el clima organizacional, puesto que entre más desgaste profesional haya en los entrenadores la percepción de un buen clima disminuirá, además se evidencio que la relación más alta entre las variables de clima organizacional y el síndrome de burnout es empoderamiento, negociación y manejo de conflictos y relaciones

Electrochemical SERS spectra of isonicotinic acid analyzed under a photoinduced charge-transfer mechanism

Isonicotinic (IN) acid is one of the three monocarboxilic derivatives of pyridine in which the acid group is located in para-position of the heterocyclic ring. It is a weak acid (pK2=4.86) and therefore, it is not completely ionized in neutral aqueous solutions, being the zwitterion and the anion the majority chemical species at neutral pH. In acidic solutions (pK1=1.84) the pyridinic nitrogen atom can be protonated yielding a third chemical species with positive charge [1]. In addition, IN acid shows two functional centres that can interact with the silver metallic surface such as the carboxilate group and the aromatic nitrogen atom. Therefore, the analysis of the SERS spectra of IN has been focused on identifying the chemical species adsorbed on the silver surface and its centre of interaction by considering the participation of a photoinduced charge-transfer (CT) mechanism in each particular SERS record as we have previously detected in the SERS of pyridine derivatives [2]. SERS spectra of the IN acid (5x10-3 M) have been recorded on silver at electrode potentials ranging from 0.00 up to -1.00 V and at different pH by using 0.1 M Na2SO4 aqueous solution as electrolyte. Stress-strain response and microstructural evolution of a FeMnCAl TWIP steel during tension-compression tests

© 2016. The stress-strain response of a Fe-17.5Mn-0.7C-2Al TWIP steel during cyclic loading has been investigated by means of tension-compression tests within the strain limits of ±2%, ±5% and ±10%. In addition, the microstructural evolution during the ±5% cyclic test has also been studied. The difference between the forward and reverse stress for each pre-strain has been analyzed at 0.2% offset strain and at the strains in which forward and reverse curves were parallel in order to study the Bauschinger effect (BE) and permanent softening, respectively. The evolution of the BE with pre-strain for this steel is similar to other FeMnC TWIP steels, that is, increasing values of BE are obtained as the pre-strain increases. However, its absolute values are half those reported in the literature on other FeMnC steels. This diminution of the BE is related to the lower activity of mechanical twinning in FeMnCAl TWIP steels at the pre-strains herein investigated, which promotes less polarized stresses in the matrix due to the lower dislocation storage capacity.Regarding permanent softening, the evolution is similar to that of the BE and the same analysis can be applied. During reverse compression, a slight increase of twin thickness and twin spacing with respect to the first tensile stage took place. La lúdica en el refuerzo académico del área de Lengua y Literatura en los estudiantes de quinto año de la Unidad Educativa Ramón Barba Naranjo del cantón Latacunga provincia de Cotopaxi.

The general objective of this research was "to develop recreational activities in the academic reinforcement in the area of Language and Literature in the students of the Fifth Year of Basic General Education, of the Ramón Barba Naranjo Educational Unit of the Latacunga canton, Cotopaxi Province." The problem investigated was How to guarantee Academic Reinforcement in the Language of Literature Area? The methodology of this research will have a quantitative approach, in such a way that it allows linking quantitative data based on the problem statement, sampling, and data collection and analysis, which is used to solve the problem. Research is applied, because it seeks to make changes through the proposal. I have come to the conclusion that when applying the proposal it was evidenced that it was necessary to use recreational activities, which allow the teacher to create their own learning space, in a way that helps the student to improve their educational actions, strengthening their practices in the teaching-learning process. Tackling different aspects of drone services utilizing technologies from cross-sectional industries

Enabling autonomous and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the Very Low Level (VLL) airspace requires further advancement of technologies such as sensing the environment or secure and reliable communication. This paper addresses these challenges by presenting solutions developed within the project Airborne Data Collection on Resilient System Architectures (ADACORSA). Here, findings from cross-sectional areas such as the automotive industry are being further enhanced to fulfill the demands of aviation, in particular for use in the UAV domain. El cine como herramienta pedagógica para generar aprendizaje significativo en estudiantes de grado sexto en el área de ciencias sociales del Complejo Educativo la Julita

Este proyecto pedagógico mediatizado se llevo a cabo en el programa de Licenciatura en Comunicación e Informática educativa de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira. El presente proyecto pedagógico mediatizado tiene como objeto de población el grado sexto A del complejo educativo La Julita, ubicado en la ciudad de Pereira, Risaralda – Colombia, en la asignatura de Ciencias Sociales, en primera instancia se realizó una visita a la institución para hacer un diagnostico con el cual se quería identificar la problemática latente en el grado sexto A para abordarla con estrategias pedagógicas desde nuestro campo de conocimiento. El grado sexto A del complejo educativo La Julita, evidencio una necesidad de relacionar los contenidos de la asignatura con la realidad social de los estudiantes con respecto a la materia de Ciencias Sociales, para atender dicha problemática, se diseñó una secuencia didáctica con un total de 4 sesiones en las que se utilizó el cine como herramienta pedagógica para mejorar el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje, y se desarrollaron diferentes actividades que complementaron la proyección de las películas elegidas. Esta problemática se abordó desde una metodología compuesta por diferentes autores entre ellos: David Ausubel, Enrique Martinez Salanova, Lev Vygotsky, Jakeline Duarte, Douglas Barnes y el Ministerio de Educación de Colombia con quienes con sus diferentes teorías ayudaron a una intervención pertinente para la atención de la problemática latente
