P-Fredholmness of Band-dominated Operators, and its Equivalence to Invertibility of Limit Operators and the Uniform Boundedness of Their Inverses

In the thesis ”P-Fredholmness of Band-dominated Operators, and its Equivalence to Invertibility of Limit Operators and the Uniform Boundedness of Their Inverses”, we present the generalization of the classical Fredholm-Riesz theory with respect to a sequence of approximating projections on direct sums of spaces. The thesis is a progessive introduction to understanding and proving the core result in the generalized Fredholm-Riesz theory, which is stated in the title. The stated equivalence has been further improved and it can be generalized further by omitting either the initial condition of richness of the operator or the uniform boundedness criterion. Our focal point is on the elementary form of this result. We lay the groundwork for the classical Fredholm-Riesz theory by introducing compact operators and defining Fredholmness as invertibility on modulo compact operators. Thereafter we introduce the concept of approximating projections in infinite direct sums of Banach spaces, that is we operate continuous operators with a sequence of projections which approach the identity operator in the limit and examine whether we have convergence in the norm sense. This method yields us a way to define P-compactness, P-strong converngence and finally PFredholmness. We introduce the notion of limit operators operators by first shifting, then operating and then shifting back an operator with respect to an element in a sequence and afterwards investigating what happens in the P-strong limit of this sequence. Furthermore we define band-dominated operators as uniform limits of linear combinations of simple multiplication and shift operators. In this subspace of operators we prove that indeed for rich operators the core result holds true

Investigating Team Apparel Buying in the English Football Market.

This thesis is a qualitative study for a sports retail start-up company. The research re-volves around gaining an insight and knowledge on team apparel business and the English market. The thesis aims to understand the target customer an English football club. The basis for understanding the customer requires investigating the market environment in which they operate, customer’s organisational structure and the buying process of the cus-tomer. Market characteristics, customer organisations and business buyer behaviour form the structure for the theoretical framework. Business buying is generally done by an appointed individual or group of individuals. These business buyers are influenced by various different stakeholders in their organisation. The research process is outlined in the methodology of the thesis. England is studied as a target market due to their football heritage and culture. England is a part of the United King-dom and it is important to understand that with regard to national football associations the United Kingdom is divided in to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Primary data, was collected through an interview with a seasoned football veteran from England, who has an extensive background in football. The main interview topics covered football in England, club organisational structure and club buying process. Additional prima-ry data is collected through the U.K. embassy in Helsinki. The commissioning party re-quested that the author write a commissioning letter to the U.K. embassy for a market over-look study of the English football market. Additionally, statistics from acclaimed and tradi-tional football organisation sources such as the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and The Football Association (FA) was accessed. The data was analysed alongside with the case company process for customer acquisition, to see how it could fit and what can be learned from the English football market. The results indicate that there are 40 000 football clubs in England. A majority of the clubs have an annual buying process where end-users have very little say on the apparel that is bought for them. The results of this study are to be used by the company management and owners. In order to assist the case company to receive funding, the results are presented to Business Finland. The results and author’s conclusions are a useful foundation for future studies, market entry and development of the brand

Background studies for the national salmon strategy

TIIVISTELMÄ Tämä selvitys on kooste tutkimuksen keräämistä taustatiedoista, jotka toimitettiin Itämeren aluetta koskevan kansallisen lohistrategian valmistelua varten. Taustatietojen keräämiseen osallistui lukuisia tutkimuksen eri osa-alueiden asiantuntijoita. Lohta on tutkittu enemmän kuin meritaimenta, mutta lohen tutkimustietoja on tietyiltä osin mahdollista soveltaa myös meritaimeneen. Selvitys esittelee lohen ja meritaimenen elinkaaret, lajien elinympäristövaatimukset ja roolit Itämeren ja siihen laskevien jokien ekosysteemeissä. Selvityksessä kuvataan nykyiset lisääntymisjoet ja niiden luonnonkantojen tila. Lisäksi esitellään myös entiset lisääntymisjoet, joista osaan lohen ja meritaimenen lisääntyminen saattaa olla mahdollista palauttaa. Istutustilastojen, saaliin alkuperätietojen ja merkintätulosten pohjalta käsitellään istutusten vaikutuksia. Merkintätulosten ja kalastus- ja saalistietojen avulla kuvataan lohi- ja meritaimenkantojen vaellusalueita ja kalastuksen sekä saaliiden kehitystä. Selvitys kokoaa nykytiedot lohen ja meritaimenen merivaelluksen alkuvaiheen luontaisen kuolevuuden kasvusta, muutoksen mahdollisista syistä sekä muutoksen vaikutuksista kalastukseen ja sen säätelytarpeisiin. Lisäksi esitellään nykytiedot lohen kalastajamääristä, lohen taloudellisesta ja yhteiskunnallisesta merkityksestä sekä virkistysarvosta. Edelleen luodaan katsaus lohenkalastuksen säätelyjärjestelmiin ja lohikantojen hoitoon muualla maailmassa, sekä päätöksenteon pohjaksi tehtäviin kanta-arvioihin. Lisäksi tuodaan esille tarpeellisia toimenpiteitä lohi- ja meritaimenkantojen vahvistamiseksi. Selvityksen keskeisin sisältö on vedetty yhteen lajikohtaisesti aivan raportin lopussa.| SAMMANFATTNING Denna utredning är en sammanställning av bakgrundsfakta som forskningsexperterna samlat in för att användas vid beredningen av den nationella laxstrategin. I faktainsamlingen medverkade många experter inom forskningens olika delområden. Om lax har gjorts fler undersökningar än om havsöring, men forskningsrönen går också att tillämpa på havsöring till vissa delar. I utredningen finns en beskrivning av laxens och havsöringens livscyklar, livsmiljökrav och roller i ekosystemen i Östersjön och de älvar som utmynnar i Östersjön. Utredningen beskriver också de nuvarande lekälvarna och statusen hos de vilda bestånd som lever i dessa älvar. Därtill presenterar utredningen de tidigare lekälvarna av vilka vissa eventuellt kan återställas för lax och havsöring för lek. Effekterna av utplanteringarna ska behandlas utifrån utplanteringsstatistik, fångstens ursprungsuppgifter och märkningsresultat. Med hjälp av märkningsresultaten och informationen om fisket och fångsterna beskriver man lax- och havsöringsbeståndens vandringsområden samt utvecklingen av fisket och fångsterna. Utredningen innehåller aktuell information om ökningen av dödligheten hos havsöring under havsvandringens första tid, om eventuella orsaker till förändringen samt om konsekvenserna av förändringen för fisket och behoven av reglering. I utredningen ingår också information om antalet laxfiskare, laxens ekonomiska och samhälleliga betydelse och rekreationsvärde. I utredningen finns ytterligare en översikt över laxfiskets regleringssystem och förvaltningen av laxbestånden i övriga världen samt över beståndsuppskattningarna som utgör underlag för beslutsfattandet. Vidare presenteras det åtgärder som behövs för att stärka lax- och havsöringsbestånd. I slutet av rapporten finns sammanfattning av utredningens viktigaste innehåll artspecifikt.| SUMMARY This report is a summary of the background information collected from research and submitted for the preparation of the national salmon strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. Many experts on the various sectors of research participated in compiling the background information. More research has been done on salmon than on sea trout, but the research results on salmon are in certain respects applicable to sea trout as well. The report presents the life cycles of salmon and sea trout, the habitat requirements of the species and their roles in the ecosystems of the Baltic Sea and the rivers discharging into it. The report describes the rivers where the species reproduce at present and the status of the wild populations in these. In addition, former spawning rivers are presented, some of which could be suitable for restoration of salmon and sea trout populations. The effects of stocking salmon and sea trout juveniles are discussed on the basis of stocking statistics, data on the origin of catches and fish tag recaptures. Tag recaptures and fishing and catch data are used to describe the migration areas of salmon and sea trout populations and trends in fishing and catches. The report provides current information on the increase in the natural mortality of salmon and sea trout in the early stage of sea migration. Possible reasons for the change in the natural mortality are discussed, as well as its impacts on fishing and regulation of fishing. Current knowledge is also given on the numbers of salmon fishers, economic and social significance of salmon and salmon fishing, and the recreational value of salmon. Information is also provided on the regulatory frameworks for salmon fishing and management of salmon populations in other parts of the world as well as population assessments made to serve as the basis for decision-making. In addition, certain measures necessary for strengthening the salmon and sea trout populations are put forward. NÄTIN POLKU : Luontopolkusuunnitelma Muurolan kyläyhdistykselle

Opinnäytetyömme tavoitteena on luoda Muurolan kyläyhdistykselle suunnitelma Nätti-Jussi-teemaisesta luontopolusta Louevaaraan. Polun tarkoitus on Nätti-Jussin lisäksi esitellä alueen paikallishistoriaa, luontoarvoja ja metsätaloushistoriaa. Louevaara sijaitsee noin 35 kilometriä Rovaniemeltä lounaaseen ja aluetta hallinnoi Metsähallitus. Alueen metsät kuuluvat pääosin vanhojen metsien suojelualueeseen, mutta alue on myös osana Natura 2000 -suojeluverkostoa. Alueen luonnontilaisuuden vuoksi sinne ei haluta uusia rakennelmia tai polkuja, joten tehtäväksi jäi suunnitella luontopolku ilman pe-rinteistä kiinteää reittiä. Opinnäytetyön toteutus tapahtui kiinteässä yhteistyössä Muurolan kyläyhdistyksen ja Metsähallituksen kanssa. Kyläyhdistys kertoi tavoitteet ja toiveet, Metsähallitus säännöt sekä rajoitteet, joiden puitteissa polku voidaan toteuttaa. Paikkatietoon ja alueen luontoon liittyvä aineisto kerättiin vuoden 2016 kesän ja syksyn aikana ja tietoja täydennettiin maastokäynneillä. Ratkaisimme luontopolulle annetut rajoitteet suunnittelemalla kahdeksaan rastipisteeseen perustuvan rastiverkoston. Maastoon ei lisätä opasteita, ja kulkijalle annetaan vain kartta ja koordinaatit, joiden avulla hän löytää haluamalleen rastipisteelle. Ratkaisun etuna on, ettei maastoon tarvitse lisätä mitään rakenteita ja maapohjan kulumiselta vältytään, kun jokainen kulkija valitsee itse oman reittinsä. Näistä rastipisteistä voidaan myös helposti luoda geokätköjä, jolloin rastiverkosto palvelee myös geokätköilyn harrastajia. Tulevaisuudessa polkua voidaan kehittää luomalla sille omat nettisivut ja muuttamalla siihen liittyvä aineisto sähköiseksi

Kasvien sisältämät kasviestrogeenit ehkäisevät syöpiä sekä sydän- ja verisuonitauteja. Toisaalta niiden runsas saanti voi aiheuttaa tuotantoeläimille lisääntymishäiriöitä. Lajike ja lämpösumma vaikuttavat puna-apilan kasviestrogeenien määrään.vo
