    Using A Minimum Tile Path For Plant Transformations Encompassing the Entire Soybean Genome

    Genomes like Glycine max (soybean) that have been highly conserved following increases in ploidy represent a frontier for genome analysis. Many soybean QTL analyzed to date have been composed of gene clusters each with contributing a portion of the trait rather than alleles of single genes. At the Soybean Genome Database (SoyGD) http://soybeangenome.siu.edu the genome browser that integrates and served the publicly available soybean physical map, BAC fingerprint database and genetic map associated genomic data shows a minimum tile of transformation ready BIBAC-like clones in pCLD04541 (pV41; oriV; tra; bom). Sequence resources made available through the DOE genome sequencing project have allowed the minimum tile to be revised and new functional analyses to be made. There are 3,840 MTP clones that appeared to encompass 90% of the genome (see http://soybeangenome.siu.edu/cgi-bin/gbrowse/BES_scaffolds). The BIBAC-like clones (tetR) from E. coli DH10 B were transferred en masse to Agrobacterium tumefaciens by triparental matings with EHA105 (rifR) mediated by pRK2013 (oriP) in DH10B (kanR) in 384 well plates. Although not necessary the extra helper plasmid boosted efficiency 10 fold. Individual A. tumefaciens rifampicin and tetracyclin resistant strains were used for transformation of Arabidopsis thaliana flowers in 384 well arrays. Initially kanamycin selection was used to isolate transgenic plants. Because the BACs were already tetR the recA mutants of A. tumefaciens could not be used (Tn3 insertions). Consequent to this and partial transconjugation events only some inserts are transferred completely while other transformed lines contain a substitution series of deleted inserts anchored on the Ti-left border (LB). These are maintained as kanR mixtures of seed. Phenotypes found for lines transgenic for particular BACs that were repeated include seed composition (protein, oil), development (growth, senescence) and disease resistance (suddean death syndrome (SDS) and soybean cyst nematode (SCN)

    Machine learning for prediction models to mitigate the voltage deviation in photovoltaic-rich distributed network

    The voltage deviation is one of the most crucial power quality issues that occur in electrical power systems. Renewable energy plays a vital role in electrical distribution networks due to the high economic returns. However, the presence of photovoltaic systems changes the nature of the energy flow in the grid and causes many problems such as voltage deviation. In this work, several predictive models are examined for voltage regulation in the Jordanian Sabha distribution network equipped with photovoltaic farms. The augmented grey wolf optimizer is used to train the different predictive models. To evaluate the performance of models, a value of one for regression factor and a low value for root mean square error, mean square error, and mean absolute error are used as standards. In addition, a comparison between nineteen predictive models has been made. The results have proved the capability of linear regression and the gaussian process to restore the bus voltages in the distribution network accurately and quickly and to solve the shortening in the voltage dynamic response caused by the iterative nature of the heuristic algorithm.

    Due to their function in reducing friction, reducing temperature in the cutting area and preventing corrosion, cutting fluids is an important part of many different materials operating processes. The main function of the liquid cutting is to control the temperature by cooling and lubrication, improving the workpiece quality by continuously removing the metal sculptor and the resulting limitation of the tool. Through this study, we will introduce method of automated coolant supply based on Arduino for CNC Machining, Coating the walls and ground of CNC workshop by making nano-coating to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. In addition, we will give as well overviews and suggestions to address the risks related to the health of the operator that results from its exposure to inhaling the smell or fog generated from fluids and includes respiratory diseases (asthma, chronic bronchitis, and hypersensitivity pneumonia), cancer, skin diseases, and the eye in addition to environmental risks during disposal later as waste. In addition, some of the techniques used to overcome and reduce the risks of the cutting fluids used will be reviewed

    Design and Implementation of an Embedded System for Software Defined Radio

    In this paper, developing high performance software for demanding real-time embedded systems is proposed. This software-based design will enable the software engineers and system architects in emerging technology areas like 5G Wireless and Software Defined Networking (SDN) to build their algorithms. An ADSP-21364 floating point SHARC Digital Signal Processor (DSP) running at 333 MHz is adopted as a platform for an embedded system. To evaluate the proposed embedded system, an implementation of frame, symbol and carrier phase synchronization is presented as an application. Its performance is investigated with an on line Quadrature Phase Shift keying (QPSK) receiver. Obtained results show that the designed software is implemented successfully based on the SHARC DSP which can utilized efficiently for such algorithms. In addition, it is proven that the proposed embedded system is pragmatic and capable of dealing with the memory constraints and critical time issue due to a long length interleaved coded data utilized for channel coding

    Materials Selection in Conceptual Design using Weighting Property Method

    The needs to combine selection of materials (SM) processes during the early stages of design have previously been realized. In this work, an attempt is made to ensure that there is no gap between function oriented design and the material. A methodology is being developed, for a concurrent qualitative selection of materials method (CQSM) that takes into consideration the importance of materials properties in the early design stages. The method is modified from quantitative method called weighting property method used for selecting materials in the detailed design stage. The method was modified to qualitative method; it means that the input data for materials property of the design must be qualitative data which consisting of groups or sub-groups of materials, range value properties and approximate values. By giving weight to the degree of importance of the properties, a developed database is search for the best group that can satisfy the CQSM. In the present investigation, a new numerical method has been build by using visual basic developed select materials for mechanical design in conceptual stage. This method, which is based on weighting property method (WPM) uses a new digital logic (DL) comparison with the traditional (DL) makes the result more accurate because it does not elimination problem of the least important criterion

    Secondary metabolites of marine-derived Bacillus spizizenii against the enteric redmouth disease in common carp, Cyprinus carpio

    Looking for effective alternatives, such as secondary microbial metabolites, is needed to restrict the use of antibiotics in farmed fish and their detrimental effects on public health and the environment. Thirty-three water and sediments samples were collected from coastal areas in the Basrah Governorate, southern Iraq, to assess their biological activity against bacterial pathogens isolated from Cyprinus carpio, with enteric red mouth disease. 20 spore-forming bacteria were isolated and identified by VITEK BCL cards and amplifying the gyrA gene. Furthermore, the secondary metabolites produced by the strains were extracted and analyzed by GC-MS. Four pathogenic bacteria were isolated from common carp infected with the enteric red mouth disease. The antibacterial activity of the extracts of the isolated marine strains was examined on bacteria causing enteric red mouth disease and Y. ruckeri and P. aeruginosa. Based on the results, the marine isolates were identified as B. spizizenii and GC-MS analysis revealed that these strains' extract contained amino acids and their derivatives and esters and hydrocarbons. Also, biochemical identifications showed that the bacteria isolated from fish belonged to the species of Yersinia ruckeri, Aeromonas hydrophila, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. According to the antibacterial activity assay, the extracts of B. spizizenii strains were considerably active against bacteria involved in enteric red mouth disease, especially Y. ruckeri. These findings indicate marine B. spizizenii can be replaced with antibiotics in the aquaculture industry to combat infections

    A comparative analysis for adopting an innovative pedagogical approach of flipped teaching for active classroom learning

    Active learning is a way of education that imparts the responsibility of learning on learners. Active learning pedagogies ranging from simple lectures to structured pedagogies can be applied to online or face-to-face environments or in a combination of both. Multiple studies have shown that active learning can be done by flipped teaching which improves students understanding and retention of information. The flipped classroom approach, with its prime focus on active learning, attempts to address the concerns of academic staff and helps to meet the expectations of students for practical exposure. On contrary to the traditional pattern of teaching using conventional classrooms and other e-learning methods, the flipped classrooms is a form of blended learning in which students first learn the content online by watching video lectures, usually at home, and do the homework in a class by discussing it with their teachers and colleagues. This approach allows having the most personalized interaction of the teacher with students. Flipped classrooms have started to become common on many university campuses. Despite the growing number of flipped courses, however, quantitative information on their effectiveness remains sparse because of very less number of researchers on it. This paper, therefore, investigates the various major aspects of flipped technology to explore the effectiveness of a flipped classroom model on student’s performance and ease of use. The paper also presents a research of comparing traditional class that engages students in some learning to a flipped classroom that creates more time for active learning using PAPRIKA technique of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM). A group of students and teachers undergone through the different approaches to teaching have been evaluated for various attributes to determine the overall utility of Flipped teaching

    Iso-lines and inbred-lines confirmed loci that underlie resistance from cultivar ‘Hartwig’ to three soybean cyst nematode populations

    Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivars varied in their resistance to different populations of the soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines, called HG Types. The rhg1 locus on linkage group G was necessary for resistance to all HG types. However, the loci for resistance to H. glycines HG Type 1.3- (race 14) and HG Type 1.2.5- (race 2) of the soybean cyst nematode have varied in their reported locations. The aims were to compare the inheritance of resistance to three nematode HG Types in a population segregating for resistance to SCN and to identify the underlying quantitative trait loci (QTL). ‘Hartwig’, a soybean cultivar resistant to most SCN HG Types, was crossed with the susceptible cultivar ‘Flyer’. A total of 92 F5-derived recombinant inbred lines (RILs; or inbred lines) and 144 molecular markers were used for map development. The rhg1 associated QTL found in earlier studies were confirmed and shown to underlie resistance to all three HG Types in RILs (Satt309; HG Type 0, P = 0.0001 R 2 = 22%; Satt275; HG Type 1.3, P = 0.001, R 2 = 14%) and near isogeneic lines (NILs; or iso-lines; Satt309; HG Type 1.2.5-, P = 0.001 R 2 = 24%). A new QTL underlying resistance to HG Type 1.2.5- was detected on LG D2 (Satt574; P = 0.001, R 2 = 11%) among 14 RILs resistant to the other HG types. The locus was confirmed in a small NIL population consisting of 60 plants of ten genotypes (P = 0.04). This QTL (cqSCN-005) is located in an interval previously associated with resistance to both SDS leaf scorch from ‘Pyramid’ and ‘Ripley’ (cqSDS-001) and SCN HG Type 1.3- from Hartwig and Pyramid. The QTL detected will allow marker assisted selection for multigenic resistance to complex nematode populations in combination with sudden death syndrome resistance (SDS) and other agronomic traits
