Applying Sharīʿa in post-revolutionary Egypt: theory and practice revisited

    Get PDF
Theoretically, Sharīʿa is meant to be an applicable methodology of jurisprudence that governs the state legal system. Applying Sharīʿa, or calling for its application, is, further, a must for those who believe in its divinity. In the process of democratic transition in Egypt, Islamists proposed applying Sharīʿa, claiming that its mere application provides accurate solutions for the chronic problems Egypt has long been suffering from. However, the obligatory nature of applying Sharīʿa and its positive impact on the community’s total welfare are not absolute paradigms. The conditions of the society in which applying Sharīʿa is proposed should be thoroughly recognized. As with any legal system, attaining the positive outcomes of applying Sharīʿa depends on the extension to which law is dominant in society. And since “law” does not “rule” in Egypt, at least in the formal liberal sense of the term, then neither applying Sharīʿa nor any other methodology would diffuse its underlying ideology. Therefore, this thesis examines the promises and limitations of applying Sharīʿa in post-revolutionary Egypt, on both the theoretical and practical levels, and highlights the major factors that neutralized the rule of law in Egypt so far thereby undermining the claims of applying Sharīʿa today

Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals of KU-Algebras

    Get PDF
The concept Tripolar fuzzy set is a generalization of bipolar fuzzy set, intuitionistic fuzzy set and fuzzy set. In this paper, the concept Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals of KU-algebras are introduced and several properties are investigated. Also, the relations between Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals and Tripolar fuzzy ideals are given. The image and the preimage of Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals under homomorphism of KU-algebras are defined and how the image and the preimage of Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals under homomorphism of KU-algebras become Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals are studied. Moreover, the Cartesian product of Tripolar fuzzy sub implicative ideals in Cartesian product KU-algebras is established

Formulating layered adjustable autonomy for unmanned aerial vehicles

    Get PDF
Purpose - In this paper, we propose a Layered Adjustable Autonomy (LAA) as a dynamically adjustable autonomy model for a multi-agent system. It is mainly used to efficiently manage humans and agents share control of autonomous systems and maintain humans’ global control over the agents. Design/Methodology/Approach - We apply the LAA model in an agent-based autonomous Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV) system. The UAV system implementation consists of two parts, software, and hardware. The software part represents the controller and the cognitive and the hardware represents the computing machinery and the actuator of the UAV system. The UAV system performs three experimental scenarios of dance, surveillance and search missions. The selected scenarios demonstrate different behaviors in order to create a suitable test plan and ensure significant results. Findings - The results of the UAV system tests prove that segregating the autonomy of a system as multidimensional and adjustable layers enables humans and/or agents to perform actions in a convenient autonomy levels. Hence, reducing the adjustable autonomy drawbacks of constraining the autonomy of the agents, increasing humans’ workload and exposing the system to disturbances. Originality/value - The application of the LAA model in a UAV manifests the significance of implementing dynamic adjustable autonomy. Assessing the autonomy within three phases of agents run cycle (task-selection, actions-selection, actions-execution) is an original idea that aims to direct agents’ autonomy towards performance competency. The agents’ abilities are well exploited when an incompetent agent switches with a more competent on

Tag Anti-collision Algorithm for RFID Systems with Minimum Overhead Information in the Identification Process

    Get PDF
This paper describes a new tree based anti-collision algorithm for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems. The proposed technique is based on fast parallel binary splitting (FPBS) technique. It follows a new identification path through the binary tree. The main advantage of the proposed protocol is the simple dialog between the reader and tags. It needs only one bit tag response followed by one bit reader reply (one-to-one bit dialog). The one bit reader response represents the collision report (0: collision; 1: no collision) of the tags' one bit message. The tag achieves self transmission control by dynamically updating its relative replying order due to the received collision report. The proposed algorithm minimizes the overhead transmitted bits per one tag identification. In the collision state, tags do modify their next replying order in the next bit level. Performed computer simulations have shown that the collision recovery scheme is very fast and simple even with the successive reading process. Moreover, the proposed algorithm outperforms most of the recent techniques in most cases

Factors Affecting The Investment Climate For An International Financial Center In Kuwait

    Get PDF
In recent years, an increasing worldwide interest in developing a competitive international financial center (IFC) raises the important issue of identifying the factors or elements of the investment climate of an IFC. Drawing on the theories and literature of financial intermediation, innovation, governance, social relationships, and information in IFCs, the authors develop five hypotheses and examine them using a survey of 200 MBA students at a private university in Kuwait. The findings obtained from conducting a hierarchical linear regression indicate that finance and innovation are positively and significantly related to the investment climate in an IFC. Implications for theory and practice, and areas of further research are made

Design and Implementation of a Distance Training Device of Physical and Sports Education’s Future Teachers : Application of ADDIE Model

Distance learning has largely infiltrated several higher education institutions in Morocco driven by the expansion of opportunities offered by information and communication technologies such as ODL, MOOC, SPOC. However, countless challenges continue to hamper the design, implementation and evaluation of these devices in education and vocational training for desired effectiveness.                                                                                        The aim of this study is to design an ODL system based on the SPOCs model which aims to develop professional skills for 70 future teachers of Physical and Sports Education. We have used ADDIE model as a methodological tool for our technopedagogical design with its Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation phases.Using Chi-square test, we examined the effect of the following independent variables: form of content, on trained type groups : hybrid and distanced at the threshold of p <.05. The results obtained show that trainee teachers have an increased need for their professional skills development through our FP@STAPS device using various digital resources. Thus, the evaluation of this device has shown its usefulness and effectiveness. The study therefore recommends the integration of this type of training into vocational training centers in Morocco. In addition, the study recommends that its technopedagogical design be based on referenced models such as ADDIE

Antiphospholipid syndrome is one type of immunological diseases which may be primary or secondary characterized by repeated thrombosis that it may be called “sticky blood syndrome”. Although a well-known disease in gynecology, there is no sufficient data in pediatrics field; so we see that it is important to discuss this interesting case
