    Get PDF
This paper studies the relationship between education and economic growth in Malaysia. We examine the relationship between educational variables and gross domestic product (GDP). This paper focuses on human capital as a one of determinant of economic growth. The problem statement of this study was that, does the education attainment of the population can help to increase the economic growth? Our main result suggest that there exists a co-integrating relationship between education as measured by enrollments rates in primary, secondary and higher education and the GDP per capita. Malaysian annual data were collected over twenty six-year period starting from 1980 up to 2005. The Methodology employed is the standard co-integration analysis

Testing the forensic soundness of forensic examination environments on bootable media

    Get PDF
In this work we experimentally examine the forensic soundness of the use of forensic bootable CD/DVDs as forensic examination environments. Several Linux distributions with bootable CD/DVDs which are marketed as forensic examination environments are used to perform a forensic analysis of a captured computer system. Before and after the bootable CD/DVD examination, the computer system\u27s hard disk is removed and a forensic image acquired by a second system using a hardware write blocker. The images acquired before and after the bootable CD/DVD examination are hashed and the hash values compared. Where the hash values are inconsistent, a differential analysis is performed on the image files. The differential analysis allows us to quantify and explain the alterations made to the image files by the bootable CD/DVD examination. Our approach can be used to experimentally validate new bootable CD/DVD distributions as forensically sound

The genotype by environment (G×E) interactions can be observed by differential genotypic responses to varied environmental conditions. Its effect is to limit the accuracy of yield estimates and complicate the identification of specific genotypes for specific environments. The objective of this study was to use the Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interactions (AMMI) method, with additive effects for genotypes and environments and multiplicative terms for genotype by environment interaction for analyzing data of 6 sweetpotato genotypes at 8 agro-environments. Results indicated that genotypes MIB05 and MIB14 were suitable for vegetable use for their higher shoot yield despite the root yield was low but they had low stability among agro-environments especially for 2 environments in Pontian, Johor with peat soil but these genotypes are suitable for 2 seasons of Telong, Kelantan. More breeding efforts are needed in order to improve the yield stability of these genotypes. AMMI biplot analysis has shown its advantage as helpful tool in identifying the best genotype for improving leafy vegetable for a new cycle of crossing and selection. Moreover, results indicated that MIB20 (control variety) had high stability with low interaction effects in eight agro-environments

Mental health and psychotherapy: a comparison between Western and Islamic scripturally based psychologies

    Get PDF
Advancement in the way of life and urbanization have brought many great changes in the psychological well-being of people in many parts of the world. The need to be materially affluent has pushed people in the urban settlements to unnecessary stress, anxiety, conflict, dilemma, and a whole lot of other adverse psychological states of mind. Due to these psychological problems, at times, people who mainly live in the cities, respond to these situations in a negative way ignoring completely the religious and ethical principles in life. In light of this situation, this research would like to explore the concepts of mental health and psychotherapy showcased by some selected schools in the Western mainstream psychology and Islamic scripturally based psychology. Particularly, ideas advocated by Freudian Psychoanalysis, Radical Behaviourism and Humanistic Psychology will be compared with Islamic psychology. For a better understanding on issues related to mental health, this research will marginally deal with the subject of human nature confined to the scope of this research. It is hoped that a proper understanding of the concept of mental health and its management could help people to lead a meaningful life, i.e. finding peace and harmony within themselves and in the external world. As a qualitative research, the researchers will utilize the textual-analysis method in analysing relevant data to this research

The accounting profession faces significant challenges and noticeable changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rising demand for digital talent and the need to ensure critical thinking skills are applied in making decisions have become the main challenges for accountants nowadays. A drastic change from the official site to working from home due to lockdown is an issue to be discussed. Therefore, based on case studies, this paper aims to discuss the effects of COVID-19 on the accounting profession. The selection of the case studies is based on the company awarded as Best Employer and Most Attractive Graduate Employers to Work in Malaysia in recent years. By focusing on the importance of digital and critical thinking, a framework is developed to show the transformation of the accounting profession over the last 50 years and future insights for the accounting talent in the current context. The findings show that the Accountant's traditional role of preparing a complete set of accounts is still vital and relevant. However, accountants need to equip themselves with digital and critical thinking skills to become future-fit accountants in the near future, especially in the post-COVID-19 era. Mesoporous Ce-doped Ti:Ash Photocatalyst Investigation in Visible Light Photocatalytic Water Pretreatment Process

    Get PDF
The treatment of organic pollutants in water including semiconductor photocatalysis is a promising approach to disinfect water. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of Ce loaded on mesoporous Ti:Ash catalyst for water pretreatment process. The mesoporous Ti:Ash catalyst that doped with Ce was synthesized through wet impregnation method with 5%, 10%, and 15% weight percentage of Ce doped on 40:60 Ti:Ash. The photocatalytic properties were characterized through X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption studies and diffuse reflectance UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. It is found that the Ti:Ash nanocomposites doped with Ce shifted the light absorption band-edge position to the visible region. Moreover, the Ce doped Ti:Ash has large surface area and pore diameter. The Ce doping could significantly improve the absorption edge of visible light and adjust the cut-off absorption wavelength from 404 nm to 451, 477 and 496 nm for 5%, 10% and 15% Ce-doped mesoporous Ti:Ash catalysts, respectively. As the Ce doping ratio increased, the band gaps decreased from 3.06 eV to 2.53 eV. The most contaminant reduction up to 45% was achieved when Ti:Ash:Ce 40:55:5 was used. Higher Ce loading on the photocatalyst may reduce the photocatalyst performance because supernumerary metal loading on TiO2 can block TiO2 defect sites which are necessary for the adsorption and photoactivation. The OPFA also acts as an adsorbent for some pollutants besides, reducing the water salinity. It can be deduced that the hybrid TiO2 photocatalyst that synthesized with OPFA and doped with Ce has huge potential to treat seawater prior to commercial seawater desalination process. Copyright © 2020 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group.
