Poverty and environmental degradation are closely interrelated. While poverty results in certain kinds of environmental stress, the major cause of the continued deterioration of the global environment is the unsustainable pattern of consumption and production, particularly in industrialized countrie

The right to live and die / Abdul Halim Mohamed Dalib

'The Right to Live and Die t is a topic which is very controversial and sensitive ill nature, as the core of the discussion centres around the question of life and death, particularly the rights of an individual over his own life and death. The areas within the framework of this topic is extensive, and the writer therefore decided to limit the discussion to three important issues, that is, pertaining to Suicide, Euthanasia and Abortion, as discussed in Chapter 1, 2 and 3 respectively

    A bridgeless Cuk PFC converter

    Get PDF
A bridgeless Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit based on Cuk converter is proposed in this paper. The operation during each sub-interval modes of the converter operated in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) is discussed. The smallsignal and large signal models are presented using Current Injected Equivalent Circuit Approach (CIECA). PLECS/Simulink is used to verify the capability of the proposed converter to regulate the output voltage while the input current regulation is inherent. This converter is capable to operate in universal input voltage condition

The Proficiency Levels Of Bahasa Melayu Writing Skills In Malaysian Primary Schools.

    Get PDF
The 1996 Education Act affirms the status of Bahasa Melayu as a language of knowledge and as a medium of instruction in national schools in Malaysia (Education Act, 1996; Sharifah Maimunah, 2004). Correspondingly, by the end of their primary education pupils are expected to acquire a certain level of Bahasa Melayu proficiency that will enable them to grasp lessons conducted in Bahasa Melayu at the secondary school and tertiary levels

    An overview of biodiesel energy

    Get PDF
Over the last ten years’ attention to biofuels production has increased dramatically and become crucial. One of the main factors is the rise in world oil prices, coupled with the abatement of greenhouse gas emissions and concerns about energy security. Biodiesel is diesel fuel extracted and made out of animal fats, vegetable oils, or recycled restaurant greases. It is harmless, biodegradable, and generate fewer air pollutants than conventional-based diesel. This paper will be summarized the overview of biodiesel including. competitiveness of biodiesel, ii. biodiesel production and iii. engine performance using biodiesel

‘It is empowering…’ Teachers’ voices on action research using Flanders' Interactional Analysis Categories (FIAC) for peer observation to improve teaching and learning of English language

Observing teachers especially experienced teachers can be a difficult task. Nevertheless, observation is an effective means to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning practice of any course or programme. Peer observation is one of the effective ways with relative ease. This paper discusses the findings of a study that involves three ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers at Changlon Secondary School in Kedah Malaysia. This study incorporates the use of Flanders' Interactional Analysis Category (FIAC) for Teacher Support Team (TST) programme between Universiti Utara Malaysia(UUM) and the school. The paper begins first by explaining the involvement of the teachers and their feelings about peer observation. This paper then highlights teachers’ feelings and perceptions towards FIAC as an alternative tool to observe and improve teaching effectiveness and how its use create an awareness of the kind of teaching that takes place in their classrooms. The dogma of learner-centred versus teacher-centred teaching was evidently discussed. The paper concludes by providing ways to make the classrooms more learner-centred as opposed to the current practice of the teachers which are more teacher-centred

Verification of Animal Characters in Drawing for Associating Digital Native and Malay Folklore/Folktale

    Get PDF
Folklore refers to the traditional beliefs and stories of a community. On the other hand, 'Folktale' refers to stories that have been passed down from the ancestors of a particular group to the younger generation. However, this folklore/folktale is increasingly forgotten by today's generation. This study is to associate digital native and Malay Folklore/folktale through animal characters in a drawing. The development of drawings referred to Graham Wallas's Model of the Four Stages of Creativity. Drawings will be displayed in the online and physical exhibitions. Organizational commitment and intention to leave among nurses: The mediating role of moral obligation

    Get PDF
In today’s fast-paced economic competition, committed and loyal employees are important for the profit-oriented organizations to gain and sustain their competitiveness.Even for non-profit-oriented organizations like hospitals and universities, these committed and loyal employees will lead to better quality service and improved organizational performance. Thus, it is vital for the organizations to sustain employees’ commitment because once the employees’ commitments decrease, it would be difficult for organizations to retain their employees. This study investigated the relationship between organizational commitment and intention to leave among nurses in Malaysian public hospitals, and determined the role of moral obligation as a mediator on the relationship between organizational commitment and intention to leave. The study focused on permanent nurses working in public hospitals in Peninsular Malaysia. The results supported that organizational commitment was significantly and negatively related to intention to leave. The macro results also showed that moral obligation was a mediator in the relationships between organizational commitment and the intention to leave. The results were crucial to be looked into so that management and employers could have ample understanding and guidelines if they were to draft retention strategies.Even though many studies had been conducted on the intention to leave, most of them were conducted in developed countries and this study is believed to enhance the literature gap since it has an emphasis in the Malaysian contex

High voltage ratio interleaved boost DC-DC converter for high power fuel cell application

    Get PDF
The application of fuel cell is increasing in the last years mainly due to the possibility of high efficient decentralized clean energy generation. Fuel cells are a potential power source for electric vehicle or distributed power generation system. In electric vehicle application, a high power boost dc-dc converter is adopted to adjust the output voltage, current and power offuel cell engine to meet the vehicle requirements. The major challenge of designing a boost converter for high power application is how to handle the high current at the input and high voltage at the output. In this paper, a high voltage ratio interleaved boost dc-dc converter is proposed for stepping-up the voltage on high power application. A prototype of converter system was built. The experimental waveforms of the high voltage ratio interleaved boost converter are presented
