    Bio-Inspired Mechanism for Aircraft Assessment Under Upset Conditions

    Based on the artificial immune systems paradigm and a hierarchical multi-self strategy, a set of algorithms for aircraft sub-systems failure detection, identification, evaluation and flight envelope estimation has been developed and implemented. Data from a six degrees-of-freedom flight simulator were used to define a large set of 2-dimensional self/non-self projections as well as for the generation of antibodies and identifiers designated for health assessment of an aircraft under upset conditions. The methodology presented in this paper classifies and quantifies the type and severity of a broad number of aircraft actuators, sensors, engine and structural component failures. In addition, the impact of these upset conditions on the flight envelope is estimated using nominal test data. Based on immune negative and positive selection mechanisms, a heuristic selection of sub-selves and the formulation of a mapping- based algorithm capable of selectively capturing the dynamic fingerprint of upset conditions is implemented. The performance of the approach is assessed in terms of detection and identification rates, false alarms, and correct prediction of flight envelope reduction with respect to specific states. Furthermore, this methodology is implemented in flight test by using an unmanned aerial vehicle subjected to nominal and four different abnormal flight conditions instrumented with a low cost microcontroller

    Building upon the current emphasis on the importance of assets in increasing the productivity and reducing the vulnerability of poor peoples' livelihoods, a conceptual framework is developed that relates the functions and attributes of poor peoples' assets to their livelihood status and strategies. The framework promotes more integrated consideration of different assets held by the poor, and hence facilitates analysis for policy, capacity building and technological interventions to expand livelihood opportunities for the poor.     Las tendencias de la inversión extranjera directa (IED) en México ha sido ascendente en las últimas décadas, sin embargo su comportamiento ha sido muy sensible a las condicionantes internas; la nacionalización de la banca en 1982, las dificultades de la renegociación de la deuda, el reciente proceso electoral de 1988, significaron para el inversionista extranjero pérdida de confianza y disminución de los flujos de inversión externa. La participación de la IED en le producto interno bruto ha sido modesta llegando en 1987 al 3.7% aproximadamente, su importancia en cuanto a las posibilidades de jugar un destacado papel en el futuro económico de México, está en función de la suplencia a la inversión nacional y en las nuevas tendencias tecnológicas que amplían sus posibilidades de acción en los mercados internacionales y ganancias extraordinarias en el mercado interno

    Enriched elderly virtual profiles by means of a multidimensional integrated assessment platform

    The pressure over Healthcare systems is increasing in most developed countries. The generalized aging of the population is one of the main causes. This situation is even worse in underdeveloped, sparsely populated regions like Extremadura in Spain or Alentejo in Portugal. The authors propose to use the Situational-Context, a technique to seamlessly adapt Internet of Things systems to the needs and preferences of their users, for virtually modeling the elderly. These models could be used to enhance the elderly experience when using those kind of systems without raising the need for technical skills or the costs of implementing such systems by the regional healthcare systems. In this paper, the integration of a multidimensional integrated assessment platform with such virtual profiles is presented. The assessment platform provides and additional source of information for the virtual profiles that is used to better adapt existing systems to the elders needs

    This is a critical paper (based in knowledge review with a constructivist proposal), under the Institutional Economics (including Austrian Economics), which analyzes the digital transition (from the welfare state economy to the authentic welfare or wellbeing economics) and the happiness management possibilities (as a part of the requirement for the global convergence process of Horizon 2030). Attention is focused on the digital currencies, as an example of technovation for personnel income and motivation management, environmental protection and a good practice of CSR 3.0 (in organizations oriented towards people wellness & happiness with sustainability).     SECONDARY SCHOOL MATHEMATICS TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT INDUCTIVE REASONING AND THEIR INTERPRETATION IN TEACHING

    Inductive reasoning is an essential tool for teaching mathematics to generate knowledge, solve problems, and make generalizations. However, little research has been done on inductive reasoning as it applies to teaching mathematical concepts in secondary school. Therefore, the study explores secondary school teachers’ perceptions of inductive reasoning and interprets this mathematical reasoning type in teaching the quadratic equation. The data were collected from a questionnaire administered to 22 teachers and an interview conducted to expand their answers. Through the thematic analysis method, it was found that more than half the teachers perceived inductive reasoning as a process for moving from the particular to the general and as a way to acquire mathematical knowledge through questioning. Because teachers have little clarity about inductive phases and processes, they expressed confusion about teaching the quadratic equation inductively. Results indicate that secondary school teachers need professional learning experiences geared towards using inductive reasoning processes and tasks to form concepts and generalizations in mathematics

    La comunicación no verbal es un territorio un tanto desconocido, al menos, esa es la sensación que tengo después de leer este libro “Didáctica y comunicación no verbal”. Siendo maestra siento que, a veces, descuido -o descuidamos- ciertos comportamientos gestuales o corporales… pero, además, sospecho que hemos de seguir formándonos es este fabuloso territorio. No digo territorio como simple marca sino hemos utilizado este término pensando en el lugar de nuestra puesta en práctica que es el aula (donde entra nuestro alumnado, otro profesorado, padres y familiares y resto de miembros de la comunidad educativa)
