Sensor characterization for multisensor odor-discrimination system

In recent years, with the advent of new and cheaper sensors, the use of olfactory systems in homes, industries, and hospitals has a new start. Multisensor systems can improve the ability to distinguish between complex mixtures of volatile substances. To develop multisensor systems that are accurate and reliable, it is important to take into account the anomalies that may arise because of electronic instabilities, types of sensors, and air flow. In this approach, 32 metal oxide semiconductor sensors of 7 different types and operating at different temperatures have been used to develop a multisensor olfactory system. Each type of sensor has been characterized to select the most suitable temperature combinations. In addition, a prechamber has been designed to ensure a good air flow from the sample to the sensing area. The multisensor system has been tested with good results to perform multidimensional information detection of two fruits, based on obtaining sensor matrix data, extracting three features parameters from each sensor curve and using these parameters as the input to a pattern recognition system. Wytyczne do projektowania maszyn górnictwa odkrywkowego oraz maszyn i urządzeń przeładunkowych

Opencast mining machines and material handling machines perform an important role in many branches of industry (e.g. mining and rock processing, power) all over the world. This fact caused that different standards were developed containing guidelines for the design of such facilities. The most important of them, which will be discussed in details in the presented article, are: the Australian Standard (AS), German Standard (DIN) and ISO Standard. The advantages and disadvantages of each of them will be discussed, and with all the consequences of using the chosen standard. The authors also present self-developed solutions and recommendations that go beyond the scope of the mentioned standards.

Sensitivity and specificity of T-cell receptor PCR BIOMED-2 clonality analysis for the diagnosis of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

Early and precise diagnosis of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) is challenging. Currently, polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based clonality assessment of the T-cell receptor (TCR) is a helpful tool for this diagnosis. In this retrospective study, we aimed to assess the sensitivity and specificity of this method for the diagnosis of CTCL. Monoclonal rearrangement of the TCR was investigated retrospectively by PCR-based clonality assessment based on 292 DNA samples from skin biopsies of patients with a suspicion of CTCL. Algorithms were based on different ratios (three or five-fold difference) between the dominant PCR peak and the third highest PCR peak. A PCR peak five-fold higher than the third highest PCR peak demonstrated significantly greater specificity (83.7% versus 76.4%) but lower sensitivity (59.8% versus 68.6%) compared to a cut-off of three-fold higher. Our results confirm the diagnostic value of TCR clonality analysis which may be used to define the ideal cut-off in order to optimize sensitivity and specificity
