Ellipsometric measurements of plastically deformed copper
Chemically pure copper (99.99) prepared in the sample of square cross-section (10 x 10 mm2) and length about 50 mm was extremely plastically deformed with the repeated application of equal channel angular pressing. Equal channel angular pressing was applied as an effective technique for producing bulk nanoscaled structures. It is well known that severe plastic deformation of metallic materials often leads to microstructure with ultrafine grains and cross-sections which remain about equal before and after deformation. Optical properties of the sample were studied using spectroscopic ellipsometry in UV-VIS range. The parameters of the sample like copper oxide and surface roughness overlayer were calculated using two-film model together with the Bruggeman effective medium approximation
Influence of Vitamin C Supplementation on Oxidative Stress and Neutrophil Inflammatory Response in Acute and Regular Exercise
Exercise induces a multitude of physiological and biochemical changes in blood affecting its redox status. Tissue damage resulting fromexercise induces activation of inflammatory cells followed by the increased activity ofmyeloperoxidase (MPO) in circulation. Vitamin C readily scavenges free radicals and may thereby prevent oxidative damage of important biological macromolecules. The aimof this study was to examine the effect of vitamin C supplementation on oxidative stress and neutrophil inflammatory response induced by acute and regular exercise. Experiment was conducted on acute exercise group (performing Bruce Treadmill Protocol (BTP)) and regular training group. Markers of lipid peroxidation, malondialdehyde (MDA), MPO activity, and vitamin C status were estimated at rest and after BTP (acute exercise group) and before and after vitamin C supplementation in both groups. Our results showed increased postexercise Asc in serum independently of vitamin supplementation. They also showed that vitamin C can significantly decrease postexercise MDA level in both experimental groups. Increased postexercise MPO activity has been found in both groups and was not affected by vitamin C supplementation. We concluded that vitamin C supplementation can suppress lipid peroxidation process during exercise but cannot affect neutrophil inflammatory response in either exercise group
Diferencijacija stanica u primarnoj kulturi neurona iz dva soja transgeničnih miševa
Matične stanice mogu se diferencirati u različite vrste stanica i nailaze na široku eksperimentalnu primjenu. Iz tog su razloga istraživanja matičnih stanica u posljednjih petnaestak godina u velikom porastu. Cilj je ovog istraživanja usporedba diferencijacije neurona podrijetlom iz dvaju različitih transgeničnih sojeva miša u svrhu prikaza njihovih osobitosti za daljnju primjenu u istraživanjima matičnih stanica. U ovom je radu uzgojena primarna kultura neurona iz dvaju mišjih sojeva, ubikvitarnog GFP-LUC i Thy1-YFP. Uzgojeni neuroni analizirani su 7. i 14. dan, opisan je uzorak izražaja bjelančevina te su međusobno uspoređeni neuroni podrijetlom iz dvaju navedenih mišjih
sojeva. Stanice mišjega soja GFP-LUC tijekom 7. dana diferencirale su se u potpunosti u zrele neurone i astrocite. U 100 % stanica pozitivan je GFP. U ovoj su skupini stanica biljezi neurona (MAP2,
ß3-tubulin i NeuN) pozitivni u 90 % diferenciranih stanica, a biljeg astrocita (GFAP) samo u 10 % stanica. Tijekom 14. dana stanice su razvijenije, na što upućuju deblji nastavci koji su prisutni u većem
broju. Biljezi neurona pozitivni su u 80 % diferenciranih stanica, a biljeg astrocita pozitivan je u 20 % stanica. Stanice mišjega soja Thy1-YFP tijekom 7. dana također su se diferencirale u zrele neu-
rone i astrocite, međutim samo je 20 % neurona YFP-pozitivno. Kao i u GFP-LUC mišjeg soja, 7. dan diferencijacije prisutno je 90 % neurona i 10 % astrocita, a 14. dan 80 % neurona i 20 % astrocita
Optical properties of plastically deformed copper
Pure copper (99.99), prepared in the sample of square cross-section (10 x 10 mm2) and length about 50 mm, was extremely plastically deformed with the repeated application of Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP). ECAP was applied as an effective technique for producing bulk nano-scaled structures. Optical properties of the sample were investigated using Raman spectroscopy. Two types of lines: narrow (with width of 7 cm¡1) and wide ( 40 cm¡1) are registered. Existence of two types of lines indicates that in the specimen exists nano-sized crystal structures of both Cu and CuO related with three dimensional amorphous boundary spaces, which indicates that plastic deformation of the sample did not lead to total amorphisation of the specimen
Multilingualism in non-philological study programs at the University of Belgrade
Dobro poznavanje i uspešno korišćenje stranih jezika sastavni je deo kompetencija svakog savremenog stručnjaka i naučnog radnika. Cilj rada je utvrđivanje stanja učenja stranih jezika na Univerzitetu u Beogradu u školskoj 2015/2016. godini poređenjem sa istraživanjem sprovedenim tokom 2006. godine, kao i ispitivanje stavova nastavnika stručnih predmeta o višejezičnosti i ulozi stranih jezika u univerzitetskom kurikulumu. U tu svrhu primenjena je dokumentaciona analiza podataka dobijenih sa veb stranica fakulteta, kao i kratak informativni upitnik sa pitanjima zatvorenog tipa. Rezultati pokazuju pogoršanje položaja stranih jezika u kurikulumima ispitivanih fakulteta, kao i deklarativno opredeljenje nastavnika za višejezičnost koja nema uporište u realnom stanju. Kako bi se trenutna situacija poboljšala, neophodna je revizija jezičke politike u pogledu nastave stranih jezika na fakultetima nefilološke orijentacije.Good command and efficient usage of foreign languages are indispensable competencies of each member of today's global academic and professional community. The aim of the paper was twofold: firstly, to provide an overview of the current state of language teaching at tertiary level at the University of Belgrade and compare it to the findings of an earlier research conducted ten years ago, in 2006; and, secondly, to examine the views of teachers of specialized courses on language matters at their faculties (what languages are or should be taught, what should be the role of foreign languages within university curricula etc.). With this in mind and for the purpose of getting a better insight into the issue, documentation analysis was conducted. In addition, a small-scale informative questionnaire intended for subject-matter teachers was construed. The results obtained show the deterioration of the foreign language position and status in the official curricula of the faculties, as well as subject teachers' declaratory support of multilingualism which seems to have no solid ground in the actual state of foreign language learning at university level. In order to improve the current situation, it seems necessary to revise completely the university foreign languages policy at the non-philological faculties of the University of Belgrade
