Constraining nonstandard neutrino-quark interactions with solar, reactor and accelerator data

    Get PDF
We present a reanalysis of nonstandard neutrino-down-quark interactions of electron and tau neutrinos using solar, reactor and accelerator data. In addition updating the analysis by including new solar data from SNO phase III and Borexino, as well as new KamLAND data and solar fluxes, a key role is played in our analysis by the combination of these results with the CHARM data. The latter allows us to better constrain the axial and axial-vector electron and tau-neutrino nonstandard interaction parameters characterizing the deviations from the Standard Model predictions.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables, typo corrected in Figure 2, version published in Phys. Finding the set of k-additive dominating measures viewed as a flow problem

    Get PDF
n this paper we deal with the problem of obtaining the set of k-additive measures dominating a fuzzy measure. This problem extends the problem of deriving the set of probabilities dominating a fuzzy measure, an important problem appearing in Decision Making and Game Theory. The solution proposed in the paper follows the line developed by Chateauneuf and Jaffray for dominating probabilities and continued by Miranda et al. for dominating k-additive belief functions. Here, we address the general case transforming the problem into a similar one such that the involved set functions have non-negative Möbius transform; this simplifies the problem and allows a result similar to the one developed for belief functions. Although the set obtained is very large, we show that the conditions cannot be sharpened. On the other hand, we also show that it is possible to define a more restrictive subset, providing a more natural extension of the result for probabilities, such that it is possible to derive any k-additive dominating measure from it

Update to the Neutrino-Electron Scattering in Left-Right Symmetric Models

    Get PDF
In a previous paper we study the neutrino-electron scattering in the framework of a left-right symmetric model (LRSM). Constraints on the LRSM parameters MZ2M_{Z_{2}} and ϕ\phi were obtained. Based on new measurements we present an update to these constraints and also include in the calculation the radiative corrections.Comment: LaTex file, 4 pages and 3 uuencoded postscript figure

    Rotating Hele-Shaw cells with ferrofluids

We investigate the flow of two immiscible, viscous fluids in a rotating Hele-Shaw cell, when one of the fluids is a ferrofluid and an external magnetic field is applied. The interplay between centrifugal and magnetic forces in determining the instability of the fluid-fluid interface is analyzed. The linear stability analysis of the problem shows that a non-uniform, azimuthal magnetic field, applied tangential to the cell, tends to stabilize the interface. We verify that maximum growth rate selection of initial patterns is influenced by the applied field, which tends to decrease the number of interface ripples. We contrast these results with the situation in which a uniform magnetic field is applied normally to the plane defined by the rotating Hele-Shaw cell.Comment: 12 pages, 3 ps figures, RevTe

The continuity of the inversion and the structure of maximal subgroups in countably compact topological semigroups

In this paper we search for conditions on a countably compact (pseudo-compact) topological semigroup under which: (i) each maximal subgroup H(e)H(e) in SS is a (closed) topological subgroup in SS; (ii) the Clifford part H(S)H(S)(i.e. the union of all maximal subgroups) of the semigroup SS is a closed subset in SS; (iii) the inversion inv ⁣:H(S)H(S)\operatorname{inv}\colon H(S)\to H(S) is continuous; and (iv) the projection π ⁣:H(S)E(S)\pi\colon H(S)\to E(S), π ⁣:xxx1\pi\colon x\longmapsto xx^{-1}, onto the subset of idempotents E(S)E(S) of SS, is continuous
