Complete genome sequence of the hippuricase-positive Campylobacter avium Type 5 LMG 24591

Infections with Campylobacter jejuni subsp. jejuni are a leading cause of foodborne gastroenteritis and the most prevalent infection preceding Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). This study describes the genomes of C. jejuni subsp. jejuni HS:41 strains RM3196 (233.94) and RM3197 (308.95) that were isolated from patients with GBS in Cape Town, South Africa
Decoherence from a Chaotic Environment: An Upside Down "Oscillator" as a Model
Chaotic evolutions exhibit exponential sensitivity to initial conditions.
This suggests that even very small perturbations resulting from weak coupling
of a quantum chaotic environment to the position of a system whose state is a
non-local superposition will lead to rapid decoherence. However, it is also
known that quantum counterparts of classically chaotic systems lose exponential
sensitivity to initial conditions, so this expectation of enhanced decoherence
is by no means obvious. We analyze decoherence due to a "toy" quantum
environment that is analytically solvable, yet displays the crucial phenomenon
of exponential sensitivity to perturbations. We show that such an environment,
with a single degree of freedom, can be far more effective at destroying
quantum coherence than a heat bath with infinitely many degrees of freedom.
This also means that the standard "quantum Brownian motion" model for a
decohering environment may not be as universally applicable as it once was

Simultaneous interval regression for K-nearest neighbor
International audienceIn some regression problems, it may be more reasonable to predict intervals rather than precise values. We are interested in finding intervals which simultaneously for all input instances x ∈X contain a β proportion of the response values. We name this problem simultaneous interval regression. This is similar to simultaneous tolerance intervals for regression with a high confidence level γ ≈ 1 and several authors have already treated this problem for linear regression. Such intervals could be seen as a form of confidence envelop for the prediction variable given any value of predictor variables in their domain. Tolerance intervals and simultaneous tolerance intervals have not yet been treated for the K-nearest neighbor (KNN) regression method. The goal of this paper is to consider the simultaneous interval regression problem for KNN and this is done without the homoscedasticity assumption. In this scope, we propose a new interval regression method based on KNN which takes advantage of tolerance intervals in order to choose, for each instance, the value of the hyper-parameter K which will be a good trade-off between the precision and the uncertainty due to the limited sample size of the neighborhood around each instance. In the experiment part, our proposed interval construction method is compared with a more conventional interval approximation method on six benchmark regression data sets
Consumption caught in the cash nexus.
During the last thirty years, ‘consumption’ has become a major topic in the study of contemporary culture within anthropology, psychology and sociology. For many authors it has become central to understanding the nature of material culture in the modern world but this paper argues that the concept is, in British writing at least, too concerned with its economic origins in the selling and buying of consumer goods or commodities. It is argued that to understand material culture as determined through the monetary exchange for things - the cash nexus - leads to an inadequate sociological understanding of the social relations with objects. The work of Jean Baudrillard is used both to critique the concept of consumption as it leads to a focus on advertising, choice, money and shopping and to point to a more sociologically adequate approach to material culture that explores objects in a system of models and series, ‘atmosphere’, functionality, biography, interaction and mediation

reaction at intermediate energies
The reaction is considered at the energies between 200 MeV and
520 MeV. The Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas equations are iterated up to the lowest
order terms over the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix. The parameterized wave
function including five components is used. The angular dependence of the
differential cross section and energy dependence of tensor analyzing power
at the zero scattering angle are presented in comparison with the
experimental data
Trajectory versus probability density entropy
We study the problem of entropy increase of the Bernoulli-shift map without
recourse to the concept of trajectory and we discuss whether, and under which
conditions if it does, the distribution density entropy coincides with the
Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy, namely, with the trajectory entropy.Comment: 24 page
