A first-order differential double subordination with applications

    Get PDF
Let q1q_1 and q2q_2 belong to a certain class of normalized analytic univalent functions in the open unit disk of the complex plane. Sufficient conditions are obtained for normalized analytic functions pp to satisfy the double subordination chain q1(z)â‰șp(z)â‰șq2(z)q_1(z)\prec p(z)\prec q_2(z). The differential sandwich-type result obtained is applied to normalized univalent functions and to Ί\Phi-like functions

Cosmic Pathways for Compact Groups in the Milli-Millennium Simulation

We detected 10 compact galaxy groups (CGs) at z=0z=0 in the semi-analytic galaxy catalog of Guo et al. (2011) for the milli-Millennium Cosmological Simulation (sCGs in mGuo2010a). We aimed to identify potential canonical pathways for compact group evolution and thus illuminate the history of observed nearby compact groups. By constructing merger trees for z=0z=0 sCG galaxies, we studied the cosmological evolution of key properties, and compared them with z=0z=0 Hickson CGs (HCGs). We found that, once sCG galaxies come within 1 (0.5) Mpc of their most massive galaxy, they remain within that distance until z=0z=0, suggesting sCG "birth redshifts". At z=0z=0 stellar masses of sCG most-massive galaxies are within 1010â‰ČM∗/M⊙â‰Č101110^{10} \lesssim M_{\ast}/M_{\odot} \lesssim 10^{11}. In several cases, especially in the two 4- and 5-member systems, the amount of cold gas mass anti-correlates with stellar mass, which in turn correlates with hot gas mass. We define the angular difference between group members' 3D velocity vectors, Δξvel\Delta\theta_{\rm vel}, and note that many of the groups are long-lived because their small values of Δξvel\Delta\theta_{\rm vel} indicate a significant parallel component. For triplets in particular, Δξvel\Delta\theta_{\rm vel} values range between 20∘20^{\circ} and 40∘40^{\circ} so that galaxies are coming together along roughly parallel paths, and pairwise separations do not show large pronounced changes after close encounters. The best agreement between sCG and HCG physical properties is for M∗M_{\ast} galaxy values, but HCG values are higher overall, including for SFRs. Unlike HCGs, due to a tail at low SFR and M∗M_{\ast}, and a lack of M∗≳1011M⊙M_{\ast}\gtrsim 10^{11}M_{\odot} galaxies, only a few sCG galaxies are on the star-forming main sequence.Comment: Style fixes to better match ApJ published version. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase pathway genomic alterations in 60,991 diverse solid tumors informs targeted therapy opportunities.

BackgroundThe phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway is frequently altered in cancer. This report describes the landscape of PI3K alterations in solid tumors as well as co-alterations serving as potential resistance/attenuation mechanisms.MethodsConsecutive samples were analyzed in a commercial Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment-certified laboratory using comprehensive genomic profiling performed by next-generation sequencing (315 genes). The co-alterations evaluated included the Erb-B2 receptor tyrosine kinase 2 (ERBB2), ERBB3, ERBB4, RAS, MET proto-oncogene tyrosine kinase (MET), and mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MAP2K) genes as well as tumor protein 53 (TP53), estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1), and androgen receptor (AR).ResultsAlterations in any of 18 PI3K-pathway associated genes were identified in 44% of 60,991 tumors. Although single base and insertions/deletions (indels) were the most frequent alterations, copy number changes and rearrangements were identified in 11% and 0.9% of patients, respectively. Overall, the most frequently altered genes were PIK3 catalytic subunit α (PIK3CA) (13%), phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) (9%), and serine/threonine kinase 11 (STK11) (5%). Tumor types that frequently harbored at least 1 PI3K alteration were uterine (77%), cervical (62%), anal (59%), and breast (58%) cancers. Alterations also were discerned frequently in tumors with carcinosarcoma (89%) and squamous cell carcinoma (62%) histologies. Tumors with a greater likelihood of co-occurring PI3K pathway and MAPK pathway alterations included colorectal cancers (odds ratio [OR], 1.64; P < .001), mesotheliomas (OR, 2.67; P = .024), anal cancers (OR, 1.98; P = .03), and nonsquamous head and neck cancers (OR, 2.03; P = .019). The co-occurrence of ESR1 and/or AR alterations with PI3K alterations was statistically significant in bladder, colorectal, uterine, prostate, and unknown primary cancers.ConclusionsComprehensive genomic profiling reveals altered PI3K-related genes in 44% of solid malignancies, including rare disease and histology types. The frequency of alterations and the co-occurrence of resistance pathways vary by tumor type, directly affecting opportunities for targeted therapy

Differential Subordinations Involving Generalized Bessel Functions

In this paper our aim is to present some subordination and superordination results, by using an operator, which involves the normalized form of the generalized Bessel functions of first kind. These results are obtained by investigating some appropriate classes of admissible functions. We obtain also some sandwich-type results and we point out various known or new special cases of our main results.Comment: 15 pages, accepted in Bulletin of the Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Societ

Shallow faults mapped with seismic reflections: Lost River Fault, Idaho

    Get PDF
This is the publisher's version, also available electronically from "http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com".A high-resolution seismic-reflection survey, conducted at the intersection of Arentson Gulch road and the western splay of the Lost River fault scarp in central Idaho, defines a bedrock surface about 80 m deep which is segmented by several faults forming graben structures. Six meters of total fault displacement can be interpreted on the bedrock reflector while only 1 to 2 m of displacement can be observed on a shallower refracting interface and the surface fault scarp. This relatively small displacement suggests the western splay has either been active only recently or extremely infrequently since deposition of the bedrock, or that strike-slip motion may be present. A westward deflection of the major activity along the Lost River fault was probably responsible for the gap in 1983 surface faulting between the Warm Spring and Thousand Springs segments. The inconsistency in total bed displacement based on reflection, refraction, and fault-scarp evidence suggests tectonic activity on the western splay spans more than just a single episode

Levels of Stress and Characteristics of Perfectionism in CSD Students

An electronic survey was sent to the Midwest Clinic Directors’ Listserv requesting they distribute it to students in their CSD programs. The survey collected information about demographics, and students’ top three stressors and stress management practices. Students were also asked to complete the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Cohen, 1994) and the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R; Slaney, Rice, Mobley, Trippi, & Ashby, 2001). A total of 278 CSD undergraduate and graduate students from 15 Midwest institutions responded to the survey. No differences were found between undergraduate and graduate responses to the PSS and the APS-R. Twenty-six percent of the respondents were classified as nonperfectionists, 33% as adaptive perfectionists, and 41% as maladaptive perfectionists. A relationship was found between perceived stress and perfectionism such that respondents with higher levels of perceived stress tended to be classified as maladaptive perfectionists and those with lower levels of perceived stress tended to be classified as adaptive perfectionists. Similarities and differences were found between undergraduates and graduate students in terms of stressors; close to 45% engaged in a stress management practice. Importance of such practices is discussed
