    Get PDF
In this paper, an approach for text line segmentation by algorithm with the implementation of the Gaussian kernel is presented. As a result of algorithm, the growing area around text is exploited for text line segmentation. To improve text line segmentation process, isotropic Gaussian kernel is extended by dilatation. Furthermore, algorithms with isotropic and extended Gaussian kernels are examined and evaluated under different text samples. Results are given and comparative analysis is made for these algorithms. From the obtained results, optimization of the parameters defining extended Gaussian kernel dimension is proposed. The presented algorithm with the extended Gaussian kernel showed robustness for different types of text samples

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF INTENSIVE APPLE ORCHARDS IN SERBIA

Serbia at the present time grows apple on an area of 25.917 ha with an average production of 412.000 tons per year. This production is almost 2.5 fold higher than in the period of 2001-2005., which is associated with establishment of new intensive orchards, starting from 2006.Apple production was moving from the locations, typically used for traditional apple production to the regions, mostly located in the different valleys, that poses enough quantity of fresh water for drip irrigation. The new established orchards are equipped with anti-hail net preventingfruit damagesagainst hail or intensive sunlight. The most dominant cultivars are different clones of Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala and Red Delicious, which are mostly grafted on M9 rootstock. Spacing between the rows is the same as in the past (3.0-3.5 m), while  distance withinthe rows is significantly reduced and now is 0,5-0,9 m, which provide 3,200-6,250 trees ha-1. Tree height reaches 2.20-3.0 m. Large and well feathered nursery trees are used for planting, which provide fast returns of high investment. “Knip” nursery trees  as 2-year-old trees with one-year old crown are preferred for establishing new orchards. After planting, light pruning is usually applied. Only lateral shoots at the tip which are too steep and too vigorous lateral shoots along the leader are removed in its base. This type of pruning, which promotes fruit bud production and early cropping, reduces vegetative growth of the tree. In the case of good development of the trees after planting ,  they can be loaded up to 40 fruits in the second growing year, providing a yield of more than 30 tons per hectare. Production in the third leaf can achieve 40-50 t ha-1 and full production, which usually started in the fourth leaf, more than 60 t ha-1can be expected depends on cultivar and growing conditions. Pruning of the mature trees means cutting of the strong watersprouts, the upright shoots and the strong terminal shoots at the top of the tree at their base, remaining only weak fruit-bearing wood. The fruit thinning is regularly applied in modern apple orchards, starting from the second growing year, in order to achieve regular yield and uniform fruit quality.. For this purpose plant growth regulators such as auxins [naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) or naphthalene acetamide (NAAm)] and cytokinin [6 - benzyladenine (BA)] are used. Recently, herbicide metamitron, as a new chemical thinners that at a low dosage reduces photosynthesis and consequently enhances fruit drop are also used. Metamitron exhibited thinning activity when applied to apple fruitlets at the 6 to 15 mm in diameter, or even later, at 20 mm. It can be applied once or twice, depend on the weather conditions in the day of application and three days after

Dynamics of wet flue gas desulphurization in spray absorber

A concise one dimensional thermal-hydraulic two-fluid model is presented for the numerical prediction of sulphur dioxide absorption from the flue gas onto drops of the water-limestone slurry in the vertical spray tower absorber. The model is based on mass, momentum and energy balance equations for each phase separately, i.e. downward falling droplets of water-limestone slurry and upward flowing flue gas. The sulphur dioxide content in the flue gas is predicted by a balance equation of the sulphur dioxide mass fraction in the flue gas. Interface transfer processes between the flue gas and the droplets are determined by closure laws. The obtained steady-state balance equations are transformed in a form suitable for a direct application of the numerical integration method for the system of ordinary differential equations. The developed thermal-hydraulic model is validated by comparing numerical results with available measured data at the large utility absorber. The presented results clearly show the dynamics of flue gas and droplets thermal-hydraulic processes and their influence on the absorption process

Investigations were carried out during the 2006/2007 year on stationary field trial, the Center for Small Grains in Kragujevac. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of mineral nutrition on the yield of winter wheat varieties (Lazarica, Takovčanka, Kg 56S, Kg 100 i Ana Morava). For these investigations were conducted two experiments (N1-80 kg ha-1 and N2-120 kg ha-1). Analysis of variance indicates very significant effects of cultivar on the grain yield, 1000-grain weight and test weight. Analysis of variance for the impact of nitrogen rates (N1 and N2) on investigated traits was found that doses of nitrogen in combination with NPK fertilizers significantly affected only on grain yield.

Paper presents detailed studies of local and electronic structure around Fe in Cd0.97Fe0.03Te, Cd0.98Fe0.02Te0.97Se0.03 and Cd0.99Fe0.01Te0.91S0.09 multinary chalcogenides by means of X ray absorption fine structure XAFS , X ray magnetic circular dichroism XMCD and electron paramagnetic resonance EPR measurements. In addition, electronic consequences of Fe incorporation into CdTe semiconductor host were studied by means of first principles calculations. In order to improve accuracy of the calculated total energies, the band gaps and the band edge positions, special attention is paid to the treatment of exchange correlation interaction and the description of highly localized Fe 3d states. Also, the Bader theory of the topological properties of the electron charge density is used to access details of the nature, strength and distribution of the next nearest neighbour bonds. Local and electronic structure around Fe in Cd0.97Fe0.03Te and Cd0.98Fe0.02Te0.97Se0.03 systems have been found to exhibit similar characteristics, since the first coordination sphere around Fe comprises four Te atoms located at approximately the same distance. In Cd0.99Fe0.01Te0.91S0.09 system, however, local bimodal distribution of distances has been revealed, with one Fe Te bond replaced with much shorter Fe S bond, resulting in much stronger crystal field. Along with the crystal field effect, the spin orbit interaction has proven to play decisive role in determining the nature of Fe doped CdTe systems. While the systems with higher Fe concentrations 25 at. are intrinsic insulators, in systems with only 3.125 at. Fe one spin channel contributes to the density of states at the Fermi level, which makes them suitable for spin selective electronic transport application

Synthesis and characterization of single phase Mn doped ZnO

Different samples of Zn1-xMnxO series have been prepared by conventional solid state sintering method. It has been identified, up to what extent of doping enable us to synthesize single-phase polycrystalline Mn doped ZnO samples which is one of the prerequisite for dilute magnetic semiconductor and we have analyzed its certain other physical aspects. In synthesizing the samples proportion of Mn varies from 1 at% to 5 at%. However the milling times have been varied (6, 12, 24, 48 & 96 hours) for only 2 at% Mn doped samples while for other samples (1, 3, 4 & 5 at% Mn doped) the milling time has been kept fixed at 96 hours. Room temperature X-Ray diffraction (XRD) data reveal that all of the prepared samples up to 3 at% of Mn doping exhibit wurtzite-type structure, no segregation of Mn and/or its oxides has been found. The 4 at% Mn doped samples show a weak peak of ZnMn2O4 apart from usual other peaks of ZnO and the intensity of this impurity peak has been further increased for 5 at% of Mn doping. So beyond 3 at% doping single-phase behavior is destroyed. Band gap for all the 2 at% Mn doped samples have been estimated as between 3.21 to 3.19 eV and reason for this low band gap values has been explained through the grain boundary trapping model. The room temperature resistivity measurement shows increase of resistivity up to 48 hours of milling and with further milling it saturates. The defect state of these samples has been investigated by using positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectroscopy technique. Here all the relevant lifetime parameters of positron i.e. free annihilation (tau 1), at defect site (tau 2) and average (tau av) increases with milling time.Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures; Submitted to Physica B after minor correctio

The role of configurality in the Thatcher illusion: an ERP study.

The Thatcher illusion (Thompson in Perception, 9, 483-484, 1980) is often explained as resulting from recognising a distortion of configural information when 'Thatcherised' faces are upright but not when inverted. However, recent behavioural studies suggest that there is an absence of perceptual configurality in upright Thatcherised faces (Donnelly et al. in Attention, Perception & Psychophysics, 74, 1475-1487, 2012) and both perceptual and decisional sources of configurality in behavioural tasks with Thatcherised stimuli (Mestry, Menneer et al. in Frontiers in Psychology, 3, 456, 2012). To examine sources linked to the behavioural experience of the illusion, we studied inversion and Thatcherisation of faces (comparing across conditions in which no features, the eyes, the mouth, or both features were Thatcherised) on a set of event-related potential (ERP) components. Effects of inversion were found at the N170, P2 and P3b. Effects of eye condition were restricted to the N170 generated in the right hemisphere. Critically, an interaction of orientation and eye Thatcherisation was found for the P3b amplitude. Results from an individual with acquired prosopagnosia who can discriminate Thatcherised from typical faces but cannot categorise them or perceive the illusion (Mestry, Donnelly et al. in Neuropsychologia, 50, 3410-3418, 2012) only differed from typical participants at the P3b component. Findings suggest the P3b links most directly to the experience of the illusion. Overall, the study showed evidence consistent with both perceptual and decisional sources and the need to consider both in relation to configurality

Analysis of Clinical Phenotypes through Machine Learning of First-Line H. pylori Treatment in Europe during the Period 2013–2022: Data from the European Registry on H. pylori Management (Hp-EuReg)

The segmentation of patients into homogeneous groups could help to improve eradication therapy effectiveness. Our aim was to determine the most important treatment strategies used in Europe, to evaluate first-line treatment effectiveness according to year and country. Data collection: All first-line empirical treatments registered at AEGREDCap in the European Registry on Helicobacter pylori management (Hp-EuReg) from June 2013 to November 2022. A Boruta method determined the “most important” variables related to treatment effectiveness. Data clustering was performed through multi-correspondence analysis of the resulting six most important variables for every year in the 2013–2022 period. Based on 35,852 patients, the average overall treatment effectiveness increased from 87% in 2013 to 93% in 2022. The lowest effectiveness (80%) was obtained in 2016 in cluster #3 encompassing Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Russia, treated with 7-day triple therapy with amoxicillin–clarithromycin (92% of cases). The highest effectiveness (95%) was achieved in 2022, mostly in Spain (81%), with the bismuth–quadruple therapy, including the single-capsule (64%) and the concomitant treatment with clarithromycin–amoxicillin–metronidazole/tinidazole (34%) with 10 (69%) and 14 (32%) days. Cluster analysis allowed for the identification of patients in homogeneous treatment groups assessing the effectiveness of different first-line treatments depending on therapy scheme, adherence, country, and prescription year

European Registry on Helicobacter pylori management (Hp-EuReg): Patterns and trends in first-line empirical eradication prescription and outcomes of 5 years and 21 533 patients

    Get PDF
Objective The best approach for Helicobacter pylori management remains unclear. An audit process is essential to ensure clinical practice is aligned with best standards of care. Design International multicentre prospective non-interventional registry starting in 2013 aimed to evaluate the decisions and outcomes in H. pylori management by European gastroenterologists. Patients were registered in an e-CRF by AEG-REDCap. Variables included demographics, previous eradication attempts, prescribed treatment, adverse events and outcomes. Data monitoring was performed to ensure data quality. Time-trend and geographical analyses were performed. Results 30 394 patients from 27 European countries were evaluated and 21 533 (78%) first-line empirical H. pylori treatments were included for analysis. Pretreatment resistance rates were 23% to clarithromycin, 32% to metronidazole and 13% to both. Triple therapy with amoxicillin and clarithromycin was most commonly prescribed (39%), achieving 81.5% modified intention-to-treat eradication rate. Over 90% eradication was obtained only with 10-day bismuth quadruple or 14-day concomitant treatments. Longer treatment duration, higher acid inhibition and compliance were associated with higher eradication rates. Time-trend analysis showed a region-dependent shift in prescriptions including abandoning triple therapies, using higher acid-inhibition and longer treatments, which was associated with an overall effectiveness increase (84%-90%). Conclusion Management of H. pylori infection by European gastroenterologists is heterogeneous, suboptimal and discrepant with current recommendations. Only quadruple therapies lasting at least 10 days are able to achieve over 90% eradication rates. European recommendations are being slowly and heterogeneously incorporated into routine clinical practice, which was associated with a corresponding increase in effectiveness
