    The aim of this study was the estimation of storability of 10 apricot varieties in regard to percentage fruit weight loss, firmness,acidity and T.S.S in fruit during storage periods from one week to 4 weeks. All the variety gave the same trend as all of them loss weight,firmness decreased, acidity and T.S.S decreased but the differences were not the same in all varieties. in case of some varieties the percentageof fruit weight loss reached to about 9 % after 28 days also the differences between varieties in two seasons refer that this character isdetermined by genetic factors beside effect of environmental and agriculture factors

    Simple and Rapid Enzymatic Method for the Synthesis of Single-Strand Oligonucleotides Containing Trifluorothymidine

    To investigate the mechanism of trifluorothymidine (TFT)-induced DNA damage, we developed an enzymatic method for the synthesis of single-strand oligonucleotides containing TFT-monophosphate residues. Sixteen-mer oligonucleotides and 14-mer 5′-phosphorylated oligonucleotides were annealed to the template of 25-mer, so as to empty one nucleotide site. TFT-triphosphate was incorporated into the site by DNA polymerase and then ligated to 5′-phosphorylated oligonucleotides by DNA ligase. The synthesized 31-mer oligonucleotides containing TFT residues were isolated from the 25-mer complementary template by denaturing polyacrylamide electrophoresis. Using these single-strand oligonucleotides containing TFT residues, the cleavage of TFT residues from DNA, using mismatch uracil-DNA glycosylase (MUG) of E.coli origin, was compared with that of 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU). The TFT/A pair was not cleaved by MUG, while the other pairs, namely, 5FU/A, 5FU/G, BrdU/A, BrdU/G, and TFT/G, were easily cleaved from each synthesized DNA. Thus, this method is useful for obtaining some site-specifically modified oligonucleotides

    Variation between some apricot varieties in regard to flowering phenology in Boldogkôváralja, Hungary

    The aim of this study was the estimation of blossoming of 14 apricot cultivars in Boldogkôváralja in 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons.And this will help growers to select appropriate varieties to their weather conditions. For this target the blooming period of 19 apricot varietiesof different origin was observed in three subsequent years. There was no large difference in the beginning of blooming in the different years,and the greatest variation between the start date of flowering was about 1 to 3 days as the place of experiment site near to northern border andalso, length of flowering period of apricot trees is also inversely related to date when blooming started.     Tuftsin Promotes an Anti-Inflammatory Switch and Attenuates Symptoms in Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

    Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating autoimmune disease mediated by infiltration of T cells into the central nervous system after compromise of the blood-brain barrier. We have previously shown that administration of tuftsin, a macrophage/microglial activator, dramatically improves the clinical course of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a well-established animal model for MS. Tuftsin administration correlates with upregulation of the immunosuppressive Helper-2 Tcell (Th2) cytokine transcription factor GATA-3. We now show that tuftsin-mediated microglial activation results in shifting microglia to an anti-inflammatory phenotype. Moreover, the T cell phenotype is shifted towards immunoprotection after exposure to tuftsin-treated activated microglia; specifically, downregulation of pro-inflammatory Th1 responses is triggered in conjunction with upregulation of Th2-specific responses and expansion of immunosuppressive regulatory T cells (Tregs). Finally, tuftsin-shifted T cells, delivered into animals via adoptive transfer, reverse the pathology observed in mice with established EAE. Taken together, our findings demonstrate that tuftsin decreases the proinflammatory environment of EAE and may represent a therapeutic opportunity for treatment of MS

    Anxiety Levels in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder:A Meta-Analysis

    The aim of the current study was to meta-analytically examine whether anxiety levels in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are elevated. A total of 83 articles were selected from a systematic literature search and were included in the meta-analyses. Results demonstrated that children with ASD had higher anxiety levels compared to typically developing children, and this difference increased with IQ. Youth with ASD also tended to have higher anxiety levels compared to clinically referred children, and this difference increased with age. Children with ASD had higher anxiety levels compared to youth with externalizing or developmental problems, but not when compared to youth with internalizing problems. The study findings highlight the importance of more research in order to fully understand the nature and development of anxiety in children with ASD. More specifically, the results suggest that especially high-functioning adolescents with ASD may be at risk for developing anxiety disorders.     M2 microglia and macrophages drive oligodendrocyte differentiation during CNS remyelination

    The lack of therapies for progressive multiple sclerosis highlights the need to understand the regenerative process of remyelination that can follow CNS demyelination. This involves an innate immune response consisting of microglia/macrophages, which can be polarized to distinct functional phenotypes: proinflammatory (M1) or anti-inflammatory/immunoregulatory (M2). Here we show that a switch from an M1- to M2-dominant response occurred within microglia and peripherally-derived macrophages as remyelination started. Oligodendrocyte differentiation was enhanced in vitro with M2 conditioned media, and impaired in vivo following intra-lesional M2 depletion. M2 densities were increased in lesions of aged mice in which remyelination was enhanced by parabiotic coupling to a younger animal, and in MS lesions that normally show remyelination. Blocking M2-derived activin-A inhibited oligodendrocyte differentiation during remyelination in cerebellar slice cultures. Our results therefore show that M2 polarization is essential for efficient remyelination and identify activin-A as a novel therapeutic target for CNS regeneration
