The charge ordered state in half-doped Bi-based manganites studied by 17^{17}O and 209^{209}Bi NMR

We present a 209^{209}Bi and 17^{17}O NMR study of the Mn electron spin correlations developed in the charge ordered state of Bi0.5_{0.5}Sr0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} and Bi0.5_{0.5}Ca0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3}. The unusually large local magnetic field 209Hloc^{209}H_{loc} indicates the dominant 6s26s^{2} character of the lone electron pair of Bi3+^{3+}-ions in both compounds. The mechanism connecting the ss character of the lone pairs to the high temperature of charge ordering TCOT_{CO} is still not clarified. The observed difference in 209Hloc^{209}H_{loc} for Bi0.5_{0.5}Sr0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} to Bi0.5_{0.5}Ca0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} is probably due to a decrease in the canting of the staggered magnetic moments of Mn3+^{3+}-ions from. The modification of the 17^{17}O spectra below TCOT_{CO} demonstrates that the line due to the apical oxygens is a unique local tool to study the development of the Mn spin correlations. In the AF state the analysis of the 17^{17}O spectrum of Pr0.5_{0.5}Ca0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} and Bi0.5_{0.5}Sr0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} prompts us to try two different theoretical descriptions of the charge-ordered state, a site-centered model for the first manganite and a bond-centered model for the second one.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure

Prospects for electrical performance tuning in Ca3Co4O9 materials by metallic Fe and Ni particles additions

This work further explores the possibilities for designing the high-temperature electrical performance of the thermoelectric Ca3Co4O9 phase, by a composite approach involving separate metallic iron and nickel particles additions, and by employing two different sintering schemes, capable to promote the controlled interactions between the components, encouraged by our recent promising results obtained for similar cobalt additions. Iron and nickel were chosen because of their similarities with cobalt. The maximum power factor value of around 200 µWm−1K−2 at 925 K was achieved for the composite with the nominal nickel content of 3% vol., processed via the twostep sintering cycle, which provides the highest densification from this work. The effectiveness of the proposed approach was shown to be strongly dependent on the processing conditions and added amounts of metallic particles. Although the conventional one-step approach results in Feand Ni-containing composites with the major content of the thermoelectric Ca3Co4O9 phase, their electrical performance was found to be significantly lower than for the Co-containing analogue, due to the presence of less-conducting phases and excessive porosity. In contrast, the relatively high performance of the composite with a nominal nickel content of 3% vol. processed via a two-step approach is related to the specific microstructural features from this sample, including minimal porosity and the presence of the Ca2Co2O5 phase, which partially compensate the complete decomposition of the Ca3Co4O9 matrix. The obtained results demonstrate different pathways to tailor the phase composition of Ca3Co4O9 -based materials, with a corresponding impact on the thermoelectric performance, and highlight the necessity of more controllable approaches for the phase composition tuning, including lower amounts and different morphologies of the dispersed metallic phases.publishe

The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) controls the activity, subcellular localization, and stability of many cellular proteins that affect cellular homeostasis by regulating multiple signaling cascades. The activity of this system is associated with the emergence and progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma, since specific proteolysis of most intracellular proteins involved in the pathogenesis of cancer is implemented by this system. The review article presents data on the characteristics of proteasomes and the process of substrate protein ubiquitination. The role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in the pathogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma is shown, and the prospects of its use in precancerous diseases are described. The  literature search was carried out in the search engines Medline, eLIBRARY, Scopus, The Cochrane Library, and RSCI. NMR study of magnetic nanoparticles Ni@C

The 61Ni, 13C NMR spectra of carbon encapsulated nickel nanoparticles have been obtained. It has been shown that the cores of the particles consist of metallic nickel with face-centered cubic structure, nickel carbide Ni3C and carbon-nickel solid solution. The carbon shell of nanoparticles is a highly defective structure and close to an amorphous glassy-like carbon. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, UB RAS: 18-10-2-37.The study was performed within the state assignments of the Mikheev Institute of Metal Physics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences: state program «Function» No АААА-А19-119012990095-0; state program «Magnit» No АААА-А18-118020290129-5 and state program «Alloys». Centrality Dependence of Neutral Pion Production in 158 A GeV Pb + Pb Collisions

    Get PDF
The production of neutral pions in 158AGeV Pb+Pb collisions has been studied in the WA98 experiment at the CERN SPS. Transverse momentum spectra are studied for the range 0.3 GeV/c < mT-m0 < 4.0 GeV/c. The results for central collisions are compared to various models. The centrality dependence of the neutral pion spectral shape and yield is investigated. An invariance of the spectral shape and a simple scaling of the yield with the number of participating nucleons is observed for centralities with greater than about 30 participating nucleons which is most naturally explained by assuming an equilibrated system.Comment: 5 pages, Latex, including 3 eps figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.Lett; updated pQCD comparison due to new input from the author, updated references, corrected plotting error in figure
