Diversifying feminism in Turkey in the 1990s

    Get PDF
Cataloged from PDF version of article. This thesis attempts to diversify feminism in Turkey with a particular reference to Kurdish women’s relationship with the feminist movement in Turkey in the 1990s. The thesis argues that feminism in Turkey, to a large extent, has been ethnicity-blind as it has been implicitly assumed that all women in Turkey are of Turkish ethnic origin. Yet it is claimed that, of a different ethnic origin, Kurdish women undergo a dual oppression and subordination due both to their gender and ethnic origin. In this context, a relationship will be constructed between Black women’s experience in the West and that of Kurdish women in Turkey. These arguments will be based on a review of the relevant literature in addition to in-depth interviews carried out with nine politically active Kurdish women. Furthermore, it will be argued that Kurdish women’s political activism in the 1990s’ Turkey as ‘Kurdish women’ emanates from the fact that they were not recognized as ‘Kurdish’ women by the feminist movement on the one hand, and not as ‘women’ by Kurdish nationalism on the other. Despite these drawbacks of the two movements under consideration, it will be indicated that, Kurdish women’s political activism might be considered as a consequence of the configuration of these two movements. Moreover, this thesis argues that, among the many strands of the feminist theories, Black feminism has important insights in understanding and explaining the specific form of oppression and subordination of Kurdish women in Turkey.Yüksel, MetinM.S

AbstractDue to the globalization, organizations need professional human resources. Qualified personel which has high performances on capability, knowledge, skill, and other abilities play significant roles in the success of an organization. On the other hand having an improper personel might cause many problems such as affecting productivity, precision, flexibility and quality of the products/service negatively. Nowadays organizations try to employ much more qualified personel on management level and they want to find out firstly inside of them. As a new concept talent management deals with this kind of situations.Right using of talents make the work much more successful and making the work right bring the success to the organization. The subject of this study is to promote a personel dealing with talent management as General Manager (GM) under personel selection problem. There exist six criteria and three candidates for the selection process. In this study, a hybrid model which employs multi attribute decision making methods together, is proposed for the personel selection problem

Tüp sarma yöntemiyle hazırlanan ince duyarlı cam fiber takviyeli polyester kompozit/Alüminyum ikili tüplerin ezilme davranışları statik basma hızlarında (25 mm/dak) deneysel incelenmiştir. Tüplerde dolgu malzemesi olarak kullanılan Al köpüğün ezilme yük değerlerine ve deformasyon mekanizmalarına etkileri belirlenmiştir. The quas-static (25mm/min) crushing behayior of thin walled rolled tubes of glass fiber reinforced polyester composite/Aluminum hybrid tubes were investigated experimentlly. The effects of AI-foam filler on the crushing loads and deformation mechanisms were determined

Ultrasonographically detected hepatosteatosis independently predicts the presence and severity of coronary artery disease

Objectives: The aim of our study was to evaluate the association between the presence and severity of CAD and NAFLD. Methods: The study group consisted of 153 patients who underwent coronary angiographies. Patients were categorized into CAD and non-CAD groups. CAD severity was determined by the number of CAD-involved arteries and the vessel score multiplied by Gensini score, the latter judging CAD severity. Fatty liver was diagnosed by abdominal ultrasonography (USG), with the patients being categorized by the degree of hepatosteatosis, as Grade 0, Grade 1, and Grade 2-3. Results: Among the whole study population, 47.1% of patients (n=72) were female and 52.9% of patients (n=81) were male. Forty-three patients had normal coronary arteries; 27 patients had non-critical CAD and side branch disease; and 83 patients had clinically significant CAD (stenosis>50%). The rate of CAD and Gensini score were significantly different between Grade 0, 1 and 2-3 hepatosteatosis groups (p<0.05). Patients with CAD had a significantly higher AST level than those without (p< 0.05). Conclusion: Ultrasonographically detected hepatosteatosis independently predicts the presence and severity of CAD. Keywords: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease; gensini score; obesity

Why Do We Not Need CT in Patients Who Undergo Type I Tympanoplasty?

Objective:High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) has gained wide acceptance in diagnostic work-up of suppurative chronic otitis media. Most ear surgeons order HRCT to make a rational operative plan, especially in the presence of symptoms, such as refractory otorrhea with bad odor, epithelial debris at retraction pockets, and defects in bony walls of the middle ear. The aim of this study was to show the lack of necessity of preoperative HRCT by evaluating its predictive value in patients who underwent type I tympanoplasty. Methods:The study included a patient group who underwent tympanoplasty with dry perforation and normal middle ear mucosa. The intraoperative findings of 43 patients were compared with preoperative HRCT and audiogram findings. Results:There was no significance between preoperative air conduction threshold and existence of ossicular erosion in HRCT. HRCT incorrectly predicted the presence of cholesteatoma in two patients. The positive predictive value of HRCT in detecting soft or granulation tissue was 4/14 (28.57%). The sensitivity and specificity of HRCT in the diagnosis of ossicular chain status were 9.09% and 90.62%, respectively. Conclusion:HRCT plays an important role in the assessment of patients with suppurative chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma. However, preoperative HRCT in patients who have undergone type I tympanoplasty is not necessary. It has no benefit and also leads patients to unnecessary radiation exposure
