    West coast of Sumatra, which was relatively remote from major centers laying on the Malacca Straits, had a lengthy history of trading contacts with the maritime Southeast Asia, especially with the Indian Ocean basins. The paper asks whether the trajectories of broader historical development of maritime Southeast Asia can be informed by way of tracing developments among the small localcontexts as evidenced in the case of the fate of Muhammad Saleh, a Minangkabau west coastal merchant of the 19 th century Sumatra. In other words, it asks if the sea trading routes underpinning integration of the archipelagic countries are also partly valid for the world west coast of Sumatra in the early-modern era. This paper will help us to appreciate our maritime world, how we got to where we are now, and identify constants and trends that will assist in our understanding of maritime Southeast Asia today and in the future

    Tulisan ini memperbincangkan kembali apa yang diistilahkan sebagai konsep sejarah dalam posisi sejarah sebagai satu kajian ilmiah. Memperbincangkan kembali di sini bisa pula ditempatkan sebagai memperbaharui konsep berpikir sejarah terkait dengan perkembangan kurikulum pengajaran sejarah dan juga seperti apa peristiwa-peristiwa sejarah dianalisa dan ditulis dalam abad ke-21. Berpikir sejarah dalam proses pembelajaran sejarah ini menjadi penting, untuk menjadi perhatian bagi kalangan pengajar sejarah, bahwa peserta didik tidak hanya perlu dibekali dengan metode sejarah, tetapi juga cara berpikir sejarah. Dengan mengasumsikan bahwa para pengajar sejarah saat ini di Indonesia telah memperoleh dan mengetahui apa yang diistilahkan lima konsep dasar berpikir sejarah –perubahan, kausalitas, konteks, kompleksitas, kemungkinan-, tulisan ini dengan berdasar pada “The Historical Thinking Project yang dikembangkan di Kanada dan juga di Amerika, Australia dan Eropa, mengulas apa yang diistilahkan sebagai “The Big Six”, cara berpikir sejarah lanjutan.     A Study on Sasak’s Local Wisdom in Supporting Tourism Development in Central Lombok Regency

    The  purpose of this research was to study local wisdom of traditional people of Sasak Tribe in supporting tourism development in Central Lombok Regency. The method being used was a descriptive qualitative method. The result found that traditional people of Sasak Tribe had their own uniqueness, for example: 1) Custom Home of Sasak Tribe. The Custom Home was made of wood and had bamboo wicker wall and rumbia leaf roof. The floor was constructed from a mixture of soil, chaff ash and tree sap, smeared and polished with buffalo dung.  2) Handycraft. Women of Sasak Tribe are very skilfull in weaving. It had been taught since they were kids. A Sasak woman was not allowed to marry if she was not yet able to weave. Children aged 9 to 10 years were proficient in weaving. 3) Marriage system of Sasak Tribe. In Sasak Tribe culture, the marriage was carried out with the tradition of kidnapping a potential wife by potential husband which was also named after kawin culik (kidnapping marriage)
